Strict Keto

So after the indulgences of Christmas and a pretty lax diet since my 30th in May Blush i’m going to be restarting the Keto WOE from the 2nd January. It’s the best plan for me and really helps with my IBD which is such a blessing. Tried slimming world but carbs just bloat me and the low fat left me feeling hungry.

I’ve got three weddings this year, a trip to Naples in March, Marbella in May and Paris in June, I would like to lose maybe a stone or a stone and a half to feel at my best.

I’ve got my macros calculated and the food shop has been done with lots of meat, cheese, veg and butter! If anyone would like to join me i’ll be posting my food and exercise Smile

I was Keto before Christmas and typically it's all gone tits up especially as I became ill over Christmas so the will to eat properly went out of the window.

I need to start again. I have to say I'm not too enthused about eating high fat again to be honest but I think that's due to all the carbs currently in my system and my desire for sugar talking!

Megsmcgoo · 29/12/2018 16:34

Yeah it’s a very unforgiving way of eating!

I hope you’re feeling better

Hi! I am just about to start pending my food delivery on Sunday.
This will be my first time doing Keto and I was enthusiastic about doing it after reading the science behind it.
I have looked at recipes for meals and Keto friendly snacks.

Must admit after doing that online shop I am a bit nervous.
I usually eat healthily (ignoring my atrocious snacking habit) full of loads of veg and fruit so it seemed an almost unhealthy basket.

Have you had success doing Keto previously?

Looking forward to seeing how we both get on!

Megsmcgoo · 29/12/2018 20:52

Yes absolutely have had amazing success with it before hand and lost 5 stone following the principles, it’s only when I started letting myself slip regularly that I put on the extra stone, very annoying!

It can seem unhealthy to start with but I found I ate a lot more vegetables with it. What kind of food are you making? Always looking out for new recipes!

thats good to hear you have had brilliant results! I have about two stone to lose and so does DH. We are wanting to get that energy boost, better sleep and enhanced concentration as we are both shift workers and are currently greedy, unfit zombies!

Ok so I looked primarily at the diet doctor website and the Keto recipes. I'm planning on trying:

Pork chops with buttered green beans
Garlic chicken with buttered green cabbage
Garlic chicken (chicken fiends in this house) with butter fried broccoli
Keto stuffed mushrooms

For lunches

Salad sandwiches which is just a lettuce leaf, slice of Edam, some tomato and avocado
Keto cob salad
Keto chicken BLT salad
No noodle chicken noodle soup

As we work shifts we only have the four dinners together so the other three I'm planning on having the Italian board/roast beef and cheese board to pick at.

Eggs and coffee for breakfast for both of us and lots of water.

I'm worried about snacking. I need some healthy low carb options - any ideas? Smile

Megsmcgoo · 29/12/2018 21:34

I love diet doctor, check out ruled.me if you haven’t already and the Keto board on reddit, both are very good and reddit in particular shows a lot of success stories.

I used to snack on babybels or ham/cooked bacon but you should find you don’t need to snack once you get into the swing of things. I’m going to try and avoid it personally as my calories are quite low so I actually don’t think i’d Have anything left past lunch time Grin

OP posts:
gettofuckthrees · 30/12/2018 09:41

I'm hoping I can tailor the urge to snack too!

Il have a look at those other sites, thank you. Do you have any favourite meals/plates that hit the spot?

We eat pretty much anything so I'm excited to get started. We were hoping to hit this strictly for six weeks then, depending on results, introduce less strict rules but still low carb so perhaps a bit more varied veg and maybe some of the lower carb fruits.

Then if we find that the weights coming back on or if we feel worse off for not doing Keto then we can become stricter again.

I'm actually excited about this: the benefits seems to be incredible.

Hope you don't mind me asking but did you do much exercise? Blush

Megsmcgoo · 30/12/2018 15:11

My all time favourite is the chicken jalapeño popper casserole from ruled.me, it’s on my menu for next week to get things cracking. If you like spicy, cheesey flavours it’s great!

Yeah I’m really excited too! I love getting started with a new plan Grin

I would normally weight lift and do hiit training but 4 months ago I ripped one of the ligaments in my knee and it hasn’t got any better so for now I will just be walking. I’m hoping to have further treatment on it in the new year so I should be able to at some stage! On reddit there is a forum that advices to concentrate on the diet first and then let exercise naturally happen depending on how you feel Smile

OP posts:
gettofuckthrees · 30/12/2018 18:00

That sounds like a good idea! Sorry to hear about your knees that a shame - hopefully after you have had the work done you will make a speedy recovery and get back to your self.
My MIL had her knees done six months apart and was back playing her sport within three weeks each time! It can be done.

I have been so bad eating chocolate and all the last bits from Christmas today 😫 feel like a little piggy and know it won't make the next few weeks any easier.

So do you want to make this an accountability thread with daily/weekly/whatever check ins with progress? I'm not fussed but think that would be a good way for me to stay on track and get support from someone who knows how to Keto Grin

Megsmcgoo · 30/12/2018 20:08

Thank you!

Yes absolutely Grin I need to have some accountability! I’ll be starting with gusto on Wednesday and in the mean time eating and drinking everything haha

Hello, new to low carb diet! After a health scare (husband) doctor advised him on the Diet Doctor so here we are. Started New Years Day with a dinner - travelling before that so didn't do breakfast for lunch. Started properly yesterday, plan done up to Sunday breakfast then shopping again.

gettofuckthrees · 03/01/2019 11:00

Morning! I fasted until 12 when I had tuna mayonnaise and a boiled egg. Was working so didn't fancy cooking and I haven't done any batchcooking or planning yet.
Dinner was burgers without the bun with lots of cheese. And slices of cucumber.

This morning I have had a strong black coffee. Will have olives, procuitto, sliced tomato with black pepper and cheese for lunch. Garlic chicken for tea tonight with butter cabbage. Question - is Brie a Keto friendly cheese?!i have cheddar and mozzarella too but have leftover Brie from new year which is making eyes at me...

Lots of water and perhaps another coffee or two.

Hardest part is proving to be when I am serving up DDs meals. Porridge this morning and my stomach was growling at me 😫

gettofuckthrees · 03/01/2019 11:07

Found the scales. I'm actually quite shocked to see that I have two and a half stone to lose!!!!

What on Earth have I been doing.

Three stone heavier than my pre pregnancy weight but I was a bit too slim then so aiming for two and a half stone off. I've given myself quite a turn! Blush

Claredogmum · 03/01/2019 11:07

I'd like to be in as well if that's okay? I've been doing Keto for three months and have lost 11lb. I've got another 7lb to go to get to 9st 7lb.
I've got to say I find it quite easy but fairly expensive. I'm rarely hungry and managed to get through Xmas with only 1lb gain.
I found the side effects weird to start with but went quite quickly.

gettofuckthrees · 03/01/2019 11:15

Welcome @Claredogmum @CockersareAce to you both!
Sounds at though you are doing great @Claredogmum that's so impressive. I would be more than happy with that result. What kinds of food/meals have you been banging into?

@CockersareAce sorry to hear about your DH's health scare, hopefully this diet will improve your situation. I was so surprised to read the long list of health benefits associated with eating this way.

I have said already but I'm still a bit uneasy about the amount of butter I will be eating and cooking with. Still looking forward to it though!

gettofuckthrees · 03/01/2019 11:16

No idea how I managed to make half of that bold.
Sorry!

Claredogmum · 03/01/2019 11:40

If I'm honest I could have lost much more but I like a glass or three of wine with my tea🍷. I think if you're doing it without the wine the weight loss will be much quicker.
I don't eat meat apart from fish so I think that's why I find it so expensive.
I make my own granola and have that with full fat yogurt every morning. Lunch could be tinned tuna and full fat mayo or maybe cheese and Keto mug bread(very easy to make)
Carb manager is a great app and you can set your own carb limit and it works out the carbs in the foods you eat.
Tea I have salmon cooked in butter with maybe some sprouts or broccoli. I made a tuna bake with cheese sauce yesterday. Lots of coconut cream meals too. Loads of choice.

CockersareAce · 03/01/2019 12:03

@gettofuckthrees I can't believe the butter either or the cream, cheese etc. Will see the results when we weigh in again - Doctor has told DH to lose 3 stone!

gettofuckthrees · 03/01/2019 13:53

That all sounds great. We don't eat enough fish so will start to eat more!
I was going to ask about mayonnaise actually. Currently using Hellman's real mayo - is that ok?

Mug bread sounds ideal, will give that a go!

Having a look and ruled.me today for more recipe and meal ideas.

I like a glass of wine too! Although I was shocked the hear that my go to gin and tonic is full of carbs! No bloody wonder I wasn't losing any weight Blush we are going to try and really cut down the alcohol as we have been over indulging the last few years monthsWink

So far have managed a litre of water and avoided snacking on crap. Am I slim yet?!

Claredogmum · 03/01/2019 16:24

Hellman's full fat mayo is perfect. You want full fat yogurts too. ASDA do a good one and Greek yogurt is perfect.
I couldn't get my head round it to start with. We are bombarded with info telling us to avoid fat so getting to cook my fish in butter seemed all wrong in my head. Now I'm used to it and love it. If I'm having a drink on a night out I have Morgan's and Diet Coke. There's loads of spirits that are carb free, beware though you'll get drunk on much less than you used to.

Megsmcgoo · 03/01/2019 17:53

Welcome @claredogmum and @cockersareace nice to have some more people on board Grin

Not the most successful of days for me but still under 50g of carbs but over on fat and calories, my manager bought me some off limits food and I basically ate out of politeness - stupid! I’m very annoyed at myself so hopefully that’s enough of a deterrent in future.

Anywho cracking on and very excited for dinner, cracklings involved! I still feel hungry but imagine that will pass soon.

I have to work away quite a bit so this weekend will be prepping food for two days away, I’m going to making some jalapeño egg muffins and a couple of chicken and salad lunches to get me through it. We have one meal out but I find low carb bing isn’t too difficult these days

Oh I was also 3 lbs down this morning which was lovely!

OP posts:
gettofuckthrees · 03/01/2019 19:29

-3lbs already! Crack on! Well done!

I had to avoid all the carby toasted offerings of our local child's play centre today. Managed it but popped a spoonful of peas into my mouth without even thinking about it. Think I will weigh in on Sunday after a few days of Keto.

Garlic chicken and buttered Brussels sprouts for tea tonight with a big dollop of mayonnaise. Lovely but oily - feel I will have to not use quite as much butter next time.
