Strict Keto

So after the indulgences of Christmas and a pretty lax diet since my 30th in May Blush i’m going to be restarting the Keto WOE from the 2nd January. It’s the best plan for me and really helps with my IBD which is such a blessing. Tried slimming world but carbs just bloat me and the low fat left me feeling hungry.

I’ve got three weddings this year, a trip to Naples in March, Marbella in May and Paris in June, I would like to lose maybe a stone or a stone and a half to feel at my best.

I’ve got my macros calculated and the food shop has been done with lots of meat, cheese, veg and butter! If anyone would like to join me i’ll be posting my food and exercise Smile

Don't be scared of good fats. That's what'll keep you full. It's changing your mindset that's the hard bit. At the beginning I was checking and double checking that I was really allowed to eat what I was eating. Conditioned to think fat is bad.

UnnecessaryFennel · 04/01/2019 18:17

Fat won't make you fat. You cannot put on weight eating high levels of fats as long as they aren't eaten alongside high levels of carbohydrate.

Focus on keeping your carbs low and you can eat as much fat as you like. I know people who spread butter on cheese - that's probably a step too far for me Grin but you will not put on weight (or die from a heart attack) by doing that as long as you are also restricting your carbohydrate intake.

It's not easy to rid ourselves of years and years of Fat Is Bad messaging, but it's important for our health to do so. And the science backs that up now too Smile

This was my dinner tonight and it was glorious! Gammon with mushrooms, spinach, garlic and double cream. Slight headache this afternoon and feeling quite tired but it’s been a long week! Looking forward to a long lie in tomorrow

It's normal to feel a wee bit under the weather. It's your body adjusting to the new food and withdrawing from the carbs.

gettofuckthrees · 04/01/2019 23:14

@Megsmcgoo that looks yummy!
I had a mammoth steak, butter fried broccoli which I accidentally burnt and a fried egg. Was smashing.

Nightshift now and giving my head a serious wobble after eyeing up the biscuits.

mrbob · 04/01/2019 23:20

Ahhh, vegans, bless 'em

This vegan is managing to combine keto with doing the good planet stuff so don't knock it till you try it ;)

Boilingboilingrage · 05/01/2019 09:28

I need a little moan. I’m on day 2 and I’m normally a carbaholic so I know it’s normal. But I feel like death. My head is going to split open.

Is there anything I can do to ease the Keto headache? Anything at all? I am open to all suggestions —before I go and eat a bag of chips—

Megsmcgoo · 05/01/2019 10:16

Drink some sort of meaty broth, like boiluion you need to up your electrolytes which should help, also keep on drinking water and make sure your fat content is high. Hope it passes soon Flowers

Today we had a delivery from the butchers which was very exciting, lots of pork belly, steaks, chicken thighs, sausages etc, can’t wait Grin

B - cheese omelette with bacon and 1 sausage
D - T bone steak with spinach and mushrooms again

I remember the feeling well. I also had twitches! I was a total carbaholic. Your body needs salt, I had a couple of teaspoons of soy sauce that helped me as I don't add salt to anything.
Also you might want to look into magnesium and potassium supplements. They really helped.
I'd drink lots, lots of fat and a couple of painkillers. I promise this passes but the first week is crap. It's withdrawal. These are only my experiences though. Others might have different tips.

Boilingboilingrage · 05/01/2019 12:16

Thank you. I’ll get on the bone broth and get some supplements. I’ve had 2 flu plus and that’s helping. I’m super pissed off as I’ve just got over that nasty virus and now I feel terrible again. Hopefully it will pass soon.

DP is going away for work tomorrow so if I wobble I’m on my own.

I’m very jealous of your meat delivery Megsmagoo. I am going to stock up tomorrow. Cannot wait!

Megsmcgoo · 05/01/2019 15:43

You won’t be on your own @boiling you can speak here Smile

Yeah I do love the butchers, my plan for the year was to try and be more ethical with my shopping so butchers and green grocers rather than supermarkets, it doesn’t work out too much more expensive and then all the other things my partner loves I can still get from Aldi etc

Yay or Nae to mattessons smoked sausage?

B - two slices of bacon, mushrooms and a baby Bell. Strong back coffee.

L - Blush subway salad with 'meat'

D - pork belly with ginger, garlic and a wee bit of crushed red chilli flakes, butter fried broccoli and buttered cabbage.

Nightshift again tonight so lots of water and some more coffee. 😅🥊

Glad I found you all. Will be restarting Keto Monday. Have had good results before, just need to stick with it.
I saw previous poster mentioned Dukan I also got on really well with that too.

missnevermind · 05/01/2019 19:20

Boilingboilingrage a go to for me was a beef oxo cube with a knob of butter stirred in. If the carb levels are still acceptable it’s quite a nice drink- bit of salt and pepper or some Worcestershire sauce too.

Boilingboilingrage · 05/01/2019 19:36

Thanks for the advice all. The headache subsided around 1pm. Which was good timing as I took DS to the Panto and may have murdered someone in a carb-craving rage!

I’ve been to Lidl and stocked up on meat and fat! I’ve peed on a ketosis stick and I’m on my way there. Only “small” but it’s only been two days. I am finding I spend half my life weeing though!

CantstandmLMs · 05/01/2019 20:27

I'm back on Keto as of Monday but have tried to restrict carbs in prep the last few days. I gained 7lb in 2 weeks at Xmas!

I love the feeling of no hunger once you do get into Ketosis.

Anyway, just thought I'd give you my top quick pudding. Rowntrees 10 cal jelly (pots) with extra thick double cream 👍🏼

Megsmcgoo · 05/01/2019 22:16

Great idea, might grab some of the jellies and cream tomorrow. If there was anything I missed most it was having some sort of dessert after dinner.

I had my appointment through for my knee physio today and it’s on the 17th Jan which is so much better then I expected with the Nhs waiting times, it’ll be good to finally start treatment on it properly and seeing if I will need to have surgery. I can’t wait to start exercising again, having to stop and still eating the same way was how I put on the extra pounds —plus comfort eating chocolate which helped with the pain—

The jelly snack is great news for me.
So DH bought the six pack of 10cal Hartleys jelly just before Christmas.... £4!!! I nearly fecking died.
Just has a quick look and if you buy the block to make at home of any of the sugar free Hartley jellies then it is still

CantstandmLMs · 05/01/2019 23:12

@gettofuckthrees they're bloody pricey aren't they? I have collected quite a few pots now but I bought the sachet too when I realised the price difference. Haven't made any yet though.

TAMumof3 · 05/01/2019 23:18

book marking for interest

gettofuckthrees · 06/01/2019 00:20

Yep! DH is bringing some home for me to make up.

Just need to remind him it is the sugar free one.

Nightshift is bloody dreadful. I'm going to have to plan snacks better as I'm tempted by the biscuits again. Funnily enough I am not hungry it is just habit, plus they taste sooo goood. Sad

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 06/01/2019 06:27

@mrbob would you mind sharing a few examples of what you eat?

I'm on a Keto diet at the moment but really struggling with the amount of meat and fish. I was vegan for a while before this and for ethical and environmental reasons I would really like to decrease my amount of animal products. TIA!

gettofuckthrees · 06/01/2019 10:47

So this morning the Keto flu has hit. Achey limbs, foggy brain and feel like I have little energy.

Starting this morning with lots of water and half a stock cube in a mug of boiling water. I don't have bone broth and this is the best alternative I have at the minute.

Breakfast: will be bacon and eggs
Lunch: Keto chicken and bacon cobb salad
Dinner: garlic roast chicken with oven roasted peppers and a lettuce/cucumber/tomato/spring onion/avocado side salad

Snack will be the sugar free jelly and some heavy cream Grin very excited about it.

gettofuckthrees · 06/01/2019 10:54

Also: as we are on Sunday now -
The scales have shown that I have lost 5lbs since Thursday.

Just under 2 stone to lose.

Feeling quite pleased with this. Giving me the motivation to continue even though I feel ghastly today.Smile

Boilingboilingrage · 06/01/2019 11:50

Hurrah on the weight loss gettofuck but not the Keto flu. Mine is manageable now but yesterday morning I was dry retching and doubting whether it was for me. Hope the oxo helps.

I only weighed myself yesterday so going to give it a few days so I’m not disheartened.

I made Keto chocolate pancakes with coconut cream for breakfast. They took a little bit of getting used to but they really hit the spot! I have to check the fridge full of meat I bought yesterday to see what is for dinner and tea but I feel like I’m getting into the swing now.
