Strict Keto

So after the indulgences of Christmas and a pretty lax diet since my 30th in May Blush i’m going to be restarting the Keto WOE from the 2nd January. It’s the best plan for me and really helps with my IBD which is such a blessing. Tried slimming world but carbs just bloat me and the low fat left me feeling hungry.

I’ve got three weddings this year, a trip to Naples in March, Marbella in May and Paris in June, I would like to lose maybe a stone or a stone and a half to feel at my best.

I’ve got my macros calculated and the food shop has been done with lots of meat, cheese, veg and butter! If anyone would like to join me i’ll be posting my food and exercise Smile

Can’t believe the time have only just woken up Blush

6lbs down this morning! Very happy with that. Will be food prepping today for the next two days away from home.

Well done @Megsmcgoo 6lbs!

Feeling better this afternoon, much better than this morning thankfully!

I am struggling today, I think because of the Keto flu but craving a treat so am going to pop to the shops later and have a look for some dark chocolate to treat myself.

Anyone got a favourite?

Megsmcgoo · 06/01/2019 17:13

And to you @getto!

I used to like the Sainsbury’s one, 85% and came in individual bars. Just check the carb content. I got a Tesco’s one that has 4g per line

Have got everything prepped for tomorrow and Tuesday and just checked the restaurant we’re going to, it’s an Italian which I was a bit cautious about but they have chicken topped with Parma ham, mozzarella and cream which will be grand with a side salad!

Does Miso soup work instead of bone broth? (And what exactly is bone broth?)

Megsmcgoo · 06/01/2019 18:27

It’s basically stock, so a cube mixed with water, meaty water! I suppose miso would be similar but I’m not sure on the carb content

Those of you who fast, how do you find it and do you have an early start? I’d like to try it but i’m Not sure how I would feel, I usually get up at half 6 and have breakfast at 8ish and then very ready ( read starving) for lunch at 12:30. The lunch has to be at 12.30 if I’m in our head office which is 3/4 days a week

Thanks!

I tend to do a sort-of fast most days, as I often don't eat before midday or maybe later. So I would stop eating around 8ish in the evening and don't eat again until perhaps 1pm the next day (17 hour 'fast').

However I will drink a couple of cups of tea and perhaps a coffee with cream in that time, so not a fast in the strictest sense of the word I suppose, but definitely no solid food.

I find if I do have breakfast, I'm starving within a couple of hours, and eat a lot more generally. But if I don't 'trip the eating switch' in the first place then it's easy! It's even easier once you are in ketosis Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 06/01/2019 22:26

And to answer your question Blush I get up at 6am, have a cup of tea, then maybe a coffee around 8ish at work, then water, and am unlikely to eat before 1ish.

gettofuckthrees · 07/01/2019 16:03

I either work early mornings or nights so I can distract myself with work to aid my fast. Similar to below - will have tea about 1900 and by the time I get the chance to eat lunch it's about 12/1300 just depends if I'm working or not.

If I'm hungry I eat though, it's more habit and circumstance rather than willpower for me Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 07/01/2019 16:40

I’ve namechanged but I’m Rage.

I’ve found today easier as I had the pancakes from yesterday to warm up. Lunch was terrible though. I was in a play centre and all I could have was a cheeseburger (obv no bun) but they ran out of salad so I literally got a burger and a slice of cheese. Still better than having to eat any more buttered spinach though. It may start to haunt my nightmares.

I’m terrible at fasting. I’m more your constant grazer.

gettofuckthrees · 07/01/2019 18:00

@Fandango well done for abstaining! Can't say I would have shown the same strength in the face of toasties galore.

Bacon and eggs this morning for breakfast
Had some prosciutto for a snack
Dinner will be pork chops and cabbage - boring tea tonight but can't face cooking. A recipe as I'm tired and working tomorrow

Completely forgot myself earlier and drank a glass of ginger beer. Bloody raging

hermionelodge · 07/01/2019 19:44

My first low carb day is complete! I'm trying to fast between 8pm and 10.30am. Not sure if I should be trying to make this longer?

Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, 1 sausage and 2 rashers of bacon. Lunch garlic chicken with some salad. Dinner pork chop with fine beans and mushrooms cooked in butter with some cream. Also had 2 coffees with a dash of cream.

It's hard to get my head around all the butter and cream in terms of the amount of calories! Hopefully the proof will be in the scales at the end of the week! Now to try and stop thinking about biscuits and sweets Blush

gettofuckthrees · 07/01/2019 20:26

@hermionelodge welcome! Well done on your first Keto day! To be honest intermittent fasting doesn't need to apply to this way of eating, it just helps speed up your body's process of getting to ketosis. 14 hours is a solid fast so if you are comfortably managing that then that's great!

What's everyones meal planning for the week?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 07/01/2019 20:35

Ha Getto I’m totally an all or nothing person. I am all in at the moment so was determined not to eat ALL THE CHIPS that DS left. I ate some butternut squash for tea though (can’t believe butternut squash could be considered a rebellion) was . Couldn’t eat another green leafy things and I usually love green leafy veg.

Oof it’s so hard not to just forget and subconsciously eat/drink something forbidden getto.

Welcome Hermione. I can’t get my head round it either. Worried I’ll stack 3 stone on by my first weigh in!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 07/01/2019 20:40

I’m having these tomorrow www.ibreatheimhungry.com/grilled-lamb-chops-with-charmoula-low-carb/ probably with some cauli until I can face kale again!

Wednesday is salmon and Thursday I’m going out with friends. I think I’ll have and skip the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding (sob). Friday will be more salmon.

I have salads for lunch and bacon and egg for breakfast.

I’m really hoping DP falls off the wagon on his work jolly so I can switch to a more low carb approach rather than Keto as the butter is already knocking me sick at mealtimes.

potterbell · 07/01/2019 21:48

Hi - I've been reading with interest as I've started keto, well I'm trying! I did low carb for a while in the lead up to Xmas but want to be stricter.

I've set up an additional insta account and I'm following loads of keto accounts that have really inspired me.

Some dinners this week:

Sausage, cauli mash (made in the nutribullet - was lovely!) and kale
Salmon and veg
Chicken 'burgers' (breaded in ground almond)

All meals are having cheese / butter / various fats added as I go and I'm tracking on MFP to ensure I'm having enough fat.

I made an egg tray bake I found on insta to have pieces of in the fridge. It's really nice! Eggs, grated mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and basil. 12 little squares - it tastes like quiche!

Megsmcgoo · 07/01/2019 21:52

1st away day done and just have tomorrow to go which should be absolutely fine, feeling very in control Smile

I think i’ll give the fasts a go next week purely because I can’t think of too many more breafast ideas and it’d be nice to have one less meal to think of Grin I don’t drink tea or coffee which is a shame as it seems to be how most people get through it!

How's everybody doing? I've had a few good days (we'll gloss over Saturday night's chinese takeaway Blush) and am feeling good.

Today I had an americano with cream for breakfast and a packet of pork scratchings for lunch - not exactly a balanced diet but still very keto-friendly! Particularly proud of the fact that I spent the entire working day sitting at a table piled high with croissants and cake, and didn't take a bite.

Made up for my lack of veg this evening with a chicken breast marinated in lemon and herbs, with a big pile of leeks in butter and goat's cheese, wilted spinach and a few peas (probably a bit sweet but I can't get too aerated about whether a tablespoon of peas is low-carb enough!)

Megsmcgoo · 09/01/2019 07:41

All good! Still trucking on, looking forward to the weekend as always!

Today’s menu

Egg muffins x 3
Buffalo chicken casserole
Gammon with salad and mayo

I’m okay today. I’m defo in the swing of it now. I made myself a really lovely caprese salad for dinner yesterday, was nice to have something different. Who knew tomatoes would feel like such a treat!

I weighed in this morning. I’ve lost 4lbs since Saturday. I’m assuming that mostly water though.

CockersareAce · 09/01/2019 10:05

Weighed in on Sunday since last Wednesday and have lost 6lb and 2 inches! Feel really good, hope it lasts.

Megsmcgoo · 09/01/2019 16:52

Well done on the weight loss so far Smile

Successful day today, was back in work and I always find I get hungry but today was absolutely fine! I haven’t got to the wanting to fast stage yet but I’m not feeling hungry in between my meals which is a good feeling.

Also managed a workout this evening for the first time in 4 months, it was a weighted circuit from the body coach programme and I’m sure I’m going to very achey tomorrow!

Off to Nando’s for lunch tomorrow which should be pretty easy to navigate, chicken thighs and halloumi please Grin

Hope everyone has had a good day!

Went out last night to try a new Indian restaurant near to us. Did have a glass of red and a bit of naan so not exactly perfect (!!) but swerved the rice, daal etc so it could have been worse!

gettofuckthrees · 10/01/2019 09:42

That's great you've managed to get a workout in. I am set to hit the gym on Saturday with a friend so accountability there too. I hope you are not too sore tomorrow!

I finally managed to set up MyFitnessPal with the correct %s so attempting 75% fat, 20% protein and 5%carbs per day.

Breakfast: coffee
Lunch today: bacon and eggs
Tea: lettuce, cucumber, spring onion, Edam and whole avocado salad

Having jelly and thick double cream for a wee treat later on!

What is everyone having for the rest of the week? Anyone trying something new? I'm going to attempt to make the butter chicken curry tomorrow for tea, the bunless cheeseburgers for lunch on Saturday and beef mince chilli on Sunday.
