Strict Keto

Megsmcgoo · 29/12/2018 15:10

So after the indulgences of Christmas and a pretty lax diet since my 30th in May Blush i’m going to be restarting the Keto WOE from the 2nd January. It’s the best plan for me and really helps with my IBD which is such a blessing. Tried slimming world but carbs just bloat me and the low fat left me feeling hungry.

I’ve got three weddings this year, a trip to Naples in March, Marbella in May and Paris in June, I would like to lose maybe a stone or a stone and a half to feel at my best.

I’ve got my macros calculated and the food shop has been done with lots of meat, cheese, veg and butter! If anyone would like to join me i’ll be posting my food and exercise Smile

Does anyone test their in ketosis with the pee strips?

I have them and there's nothing more exciting than seeing it turn more purple! I know they're not as reliable later on but good to let you know when you're heading into keto. I started (again) Monday and haven't tested yet but feel I am. I can usually get into keto quite quickly with fasting and fasted workouts too. I was at the gym at 6 this morning 😩 feeling energised though!

I need recipe ideas as I do find it a bit boring after a while!

gettofuckthrees · 10/01/2019 17:26

So I made the Keto peanut butter fat bombs who names these things! And, if you can get past the oily texture they are a real treat!
I ended up buying chocologic zero added sugar dark chocolate and it is fine! So I melted a little of that and spread the equivalent of about a teaspoon or one square on top of each 'fat bomb'

Tasty, very filling and gives you a little boost of energy. One is enough and satiated my sweet tooth craving.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 11/01/2019 22:51

I’m so so fed up today. My life is just one long cycle of cooking and washing up. DP’s still away. All my friends bailed last night. Im just feeling super sorry for myself and the no sugar is not helping!

gettofuckthrees · 12/01/2019 09:36

Oh @WillYouDoTheFandango that sounds so crap. I'm sorry you are feeling like this. Did you have a do organised?

I haven't seen friends in ages due to everyone being busy and it does get you down even if you are too busy to think about it.

I made the diet doctor Indian butter chicken recipe and it was lovely! A nice treat. So if you can summon the will you could make that and pretend it's a dirty take away?

My DH went away over night and was gone the most of two days and it was peaceful but any longer and

gettofuckthrees · 12/01/2019 09:41

Sorry the cat head butted my phone and sent that accidentally Grin

Yeah.. any longer than a couple of days and I feel the strain of being with the DC myself. When is he due back?

Could you batch cook? It's a boring way to eat the same for days but it would mean you've always got Keto meals to hand and it's one load of cooking and washing up..?

Sorry you sound so down. Sending you love and support!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 12/01/2019 12:03

Thanks getto. I feel better today. The Keto seems to have triggered a period. I’m on the mini pill and the last one I had was 2 years ago so it’s hit me hard Grin

Yeah I struggle over winter when I don’t have anything planned and I’m alone a lot so I arranged a meal with them before Christmas. One by one they all dropped out with promises of doing something next week. Which really wasn’t the point!

I made the diet doc butter chicken last week! It was my first Keto meal. I made a pan of chilli yesterday so at least I won’t have to cook tonight and this morning I made pancakes for the next two days.

DP will be back Monday afternoon and I’ve already told him he has to cook me something for Tuesday cos I’m fed up of cooking. On the plus side I think the weight is dropping off this first week.

How is everyone else doing?

CantstandmLMs · 12/01/2019 20:28

I've made a keto Lasagna using Edam slices as the pasta layers (also some courgette) and cream cheese, butter, double cream and mozzarella as the sauce. It feels so wrong!!!

gettofuckthrees · 14/01/2019 09:28

Keto lasagna sounds good! Will give it a try this week. I made some Keto chilli last night as I had to cook the mince, so it's for tonight's tea. I must of ate a third of it while it was cooling whilst I was cooking my actual dinner for last night it was absolutely lovely and I can't wait or tea tonight Grin

I completely and utterly fell off the wagon on Saturday night. Went out with DH and ate rice and naan bread, then had a packet of crisps later on in the night. Gutted!! I could see the difference the next day - I was bloated and feeling awful. I'm back to square one trying to get into ketosis again.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 14/01/2019 11:05

I had keto chilli on Friday and Saturday gettofuckthrees. We seem to be eating all the same meals! Well apart from the naan and rice, of which I am indescribably jealous! I do not envy you the getting back into ketosis though.

I have diet doc keto BBQ brisket in the slow cooker. It smells absolutely amazing. I'm WFH and I can't concentrate as I just want to go and stand over it, watching it cook.

How was the lasagne CantstandmLMs? I don't know how I feel about all that cheese!

DP fell off the wagon in spectacular style too last night. It was his last night away and he went out and had food and beers! He's very annoyed with himself bet it was worth it Grin

CockersareAce · 14/01/2019 11:57

Another weigh in yesterday - another 3lb off - 9lb in total in 14 days. DH has been diagnosed with over active thyroid - relief to know what we are dealing with. Here's to another week

hermionelodge · 14/01/2019 13:06

That's a fab weight loss cockers I had lost 3lbs after my first 5 days however I also completely fell off the wagon over the weekend! It's just so hard when not in the routine of Monday to Friday!

Line is drawn and back on it today. I need to find more recipes, I like the sound of the chilli and lasagne so might add them to next week's meal plan

CockersareAce · 14/01/2019 13:33

Our GP told us about Diet Doctor and I have the meal plans on there. Good job I like cooking isn't it? Also given up alcohol as well, we go away mid February to Sweden and Norway so would like to lose a stone or possibly two given weight loss currently.

gettofuckthrees · 14/01/2019 17:27

Amazing weight loss @CockersareAce !! Well done you!

Brisket sounds amazing - will need to look out the slow cooker.

We had Keto cheeseburgers with lettuce bun and it felt like a proper treat so that may become a staple in our meal planning.

Have any of you watched 'The Magic Pill' on Netflix? Really good information if a little bit hard to follow and lots on there about the medical benefits of a ketogenic diet.

Buoyed me up again after feeling a bit rubbish about my epic fail the other night. To know by cutting out a lot of crap that I am doing my body good. It has helped me with the fear of the fat, explaining how industry influenced the market with carbohydrates and sugar full products. It's a good watch!

gettofuckthrees · 15/01/2019 14:55

Aldi's Moser Roth chocolate 85% cocoa has less carbs than the more expensive Chocologic one I had bought from Tesco.

Cheaper and less carbs, looking forward to tasting it tonight.

Also these little salami sausages have very little carb content and just two or three fill you up, and are really yummy. DH brought them home from Tesco no idea what they cost though.

Was rushed this morning so left the house with only a bottle of water. Went to the co-op and managed to get a £3.50 meal deal with: chargrilled chicken prices, edamame and a diet Pepsi. I thought I'd struggle to get something but I was quite happy! Of course I had a large black coffee too!

Hi all! Still here it’s a busy time at work so haven’t been able to post much, 10lbs down which I’m delighted with! Looks like lots of others have the same, congratulations Smile

WillYouDoTheFandango · 19/01/2019 16:11

I’m here too! I don’t think I’ve lost much this week after a 6lb loss last week. Too many nuts I think. I also went to Ben Brasil last night. Keto heaven. It was totally amazing!

Back at it with a vengeance now.

How’s everyone getting on?

Belle96 · 19/01/2019 18:39

Hi all, hope you don't mind me joining this thread. Been a long user of the low carb / keto diet.
Usually it's a good 6-8 months on and a couple of months off fluctuating between the stone of weight I originally lost.
Just after a bit of advice this time tho.....I've been well on it since just after Christmas yet the scales seem to be having a complete laugh with me. If I took my lowest weight since starting then I've lost 10lbs in just over 3 weeks. However I can step on the scales the next day and be 5lbs heavier despite barely eating the previous day!
I know the best way to track progress is by measuring and the way my clothes feel but I just can't help that disappointing feeling when I step on the scales even tho my clothes feel and look a lot better on!
It seems a lot harder and more frustrating this time.

gettofuckthrees · 20/01/2019 21:42

Welcome @Belle96! This is my first time on Keto so I have no advice for you unfortunately. There are a few people here who have more experience and I'm sure can niggle out maybe why you aren't seeing as much of a difference this time.

I spent three hours in the kitchen today batch cooking some meals for tea this week.

Keto Chilli
Keto chicken fajita casserole
Keto Tex mex casserole
Indian butter chicken

Currently tracking on MFP and achieving a good 75-76% fat content each day and keeping it real low carb.

I'm going to weight in during the week. I indulged in some vino the last two nights as I have lots of work coming up and wanted to have a wee treat before then.

Going on holiday in three weeks (up north - not needing a swimsuit thankngod!) and am actually excited about fitting into some of my old nicer clothes.

CockersareAce · 21/01/2019 09:59

Day 22 in the CockersareAce household. In 21 days I have lost 11 lb and 4.5 inches, DH has lost 13 lb and 4.5 inches. Before we got the diagnosis from the Doctor I had said I would like to lose a stone before we go away (4 weeks time), hopefully it will be more - certainly for DH it will be.

Also had a purge in my food cupboard, food bank at work certainly benefitted from that!

Pipsnips · 21/01/2019 19:55

I just started back on keto after a break over Christmas. I was 11 stone 10 lbs last Monday and am 11 stone 5 pounds today. Weight comes off rapidly to start with as you lose water weight. Last Monday I couldn't see my feet over my stomach but by Friday I could see everything down there 😂. Sorry for that description but what can I say! I bloody love keto, no more urge to snack, it totally takes away any bingy feelings I get, tasty satisfying food and i feel light and energetic. Good luck to everyone who's starting out Star

gettofuckthrees · 22/01/2019 09:11

@CockersareAce that's amazing well done to you both!
Il weigh in in the next few days.
DH and I have decided to cut out the booze for the foreseeable too, that way we will hopefully see more loss at a quicker rate.

My energy levels have already improved and my mood is much better.

Clothes are fitting better and tmi alert my libido is starting to come back!

CockersareAce · 23/01/2019 09:28

@gettofuckthree someone asked me in work yesterday was I missing having a drink and to be honest - completely honest - no I'm not. I feel so much better and having a decent night sleep and a few pounds lighter, not to mention the money.

Also bonus with DH losing his weight no more snoring - OMG I am so excited about that

StrawberryFizz26 · 27/01/2019 18:39

I'm starting tomorrow & wondered where everyone gets their recipies from? I've seen diet doctor recommend on here & have started to follow some peeps on Instagram

Siameasy · 28/01/2019 14:13

I get recipes off Pinterest

gettofuckthrees · 28/01/2019 17:17

God luck @StrawberryFizz26 !

We do a lot of DietDoctor recipes too. Our appetites have really decreased so our bodies seem to be doing the right thing!
I have a busy few months coming up in work which are very important for lots of different reasons.
I am so glad I have found this way of eating note I didn't call it a diet now, to give me time to settle in with it and adjust. Will need to plan more to ensure I am sticking with it. I admit we have had a couple of cheat meals since we started but nothing compared to what we used to eat!!
My only problem is that I have found a crutch - Pepsi Max or Diet Coke. I have a 500ml bottle once every few days so not exactly drowning myself in it but I never drank fizzy juice a lot before so seems a lot! It's zero carbs though and a 'treat' which is a far cry better than our usual treat of a takeaway twice a week.
Have taken first period since starting and it v heavy! I felt ill the day before it arrived, so weak and light and foggy headed. Better now. Better than I have ever felt during a period actually!
Going to start being more active this week, walking where I can and will do some little at home workouts too.

Clothes are fitting better Grin
