The Final Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp Weigh-in!

BIWI · 18/11/2013 07:46

Morning all!

Today is our last official weigh-in. Come and declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it's a good result!

And I hope that everyone has done well over the Bootcamp.

Don't despair that it's the end, though! We will keep a chat thread going, and the spreadsheet is always there, so that there is support for all of us who continue to struggle with our inner gobbler low carb.

There are still 5 weeks till Christmas, so time to shed a few more pounds before the big day ...

Flowers to you all

I haven't had any cheese today as I had so much pork belly but also my period started so that always stops my huge appetite and carb cravings.

Nacster · 17/12/2013 09:35

Feeling pretty chuffed today, after a speedy initial weight loss I had stalled for a couple of weeks.

Am now losing steadily again - and am 13lb and a clothes size down since starting on 5th November. Grin

Also some inches shifting (at last) and from the right place! (I'm apple shaped, so it always seems to go from face/ arms/ legs/ bum first).

I have yet to experience an energy boost, but I am sleeping a lot better. Starting today I'm going to add in some Bovril drinks or similar, as I think it's a salt thing.

Happy low-carb Xmas everyone!

Mary2010xx · 17/12/2013 11:10

That's a very good start. I've never lost more than at most a pound a week in my life (except after giving birth but that does not count).

captainmummy · 17/12/2013 11:28

Nacster - that's an amazing loss! Well done.

I try to limit my cheese - but I love it so much. And I try to have a couple of 'non-meat' days a week, and cheese definitely figures in that.(Also cream!)

I got a recipe for swede chips in my Able&Cole veg box today - not tried those, so will give that a go. Simply toss in oil, spinkle with chilli, bake in oven.

tenementfunster · 17/12/2013 21:39

well done nacster!
i am still hanging on in there...!
though, i am reconciled to the fact that the weight loss drive will start again in jan
for now it's damage limitation!

BIWI · 17/12/2013 22:00

I think the next Bootcamp will start on Monday 13 January. Give everyone a chance to get back to work and get all the Christmas food and booze out of the way.

What do you reckon?

tenementfunster · 17/12/2013 22:21

good plan. whenever you start i'll be there. thanks, BIWI. have a great christmas!

LCHammer · 18/12/2013 09:21

I can't find my name (this or previous) on the spreadsheet. I did well and I'm maintaining. Past week has been bad due to booze & chocolate. Ready for next one again.

BIWI - thank you. LC has been one of the best things in 2013 for me. Thanks

Mary2010xx · 18/12/2013 22:20

Yes, BIWI has done so much good on mumsnet with this. I already ate/eat like this anyway but it's nice to feel confirmed when just about every dietician and NHS worker in the UK has an idea eating chart with masses of carbs at the bottom which is the opposite of how I eat.

whodunnit · 18/12/2013 22:44

excellent news for 13th Jan. Damage limitation most certainly till then....

ooh i lost another pound!

last weigh in til the other side of xmas day

Mary2010xx · 19/12/2013 17:58

I feel like one of the only people trying to lose a bit of weight this week. I suppose everyone usually gets started next year, but I don't want to lose momentum and I'm off chocolate and all sweets and once I'm off I don't want them so cannot go back on them just because Christmas is coming back and I feel good. Thanks for all the help on here.

sybilfaulty · 20/12/2013 13:41

Mary, I am sticking to the programme but with booze thrown in. I agree that there is no point thinking "sod it" and gorging with gay abandon til January. I went out last night and had roquefort salad then tuna salad. Delicious. I didn't want chips, roast pots etc etc. My taste has changed. I am out tonight and having pate (with a little bit of melba toast), lamb with celeriac and cheese. We have had to select in advance and I think it sounds fab, even with minimal carbs. My trousers are loose again. I have walked miles. I feel good too.

Absolutely not having a pop at anyone who is eating in a more relaxed way - just wanted you to know you are not alone in trying to stick to it (most of the time).

Mary2010xx · 20/12/2013 20:05

That sounds very good. My taste changed too although no loose trousers yet.
there is no point in my back tracking as I cannot do what other women can -things like treat days etc. I am either totally abstinent from my addictive foods - sugar, chocolate or I need more and more of them to get the same high/effect.

BIWI · 20/12/2013 20:11

It is a very good idea to try and keep on track as much as you can over the Christmas period - but it isn't easy. From experience, I would say that if you can relax without letting things to totally to pot, then it's OK - as long as you then don't beat yourself up about the inevitable weight gain.

If you know it's going to be a real issue for you, then try and stay on plan but let yourself have, say, a couple of days off, (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?) and then make sure that you very strictly get back on the wagon after that.

Ultimately, though, it's about you. No-one else will do it for you, sadly!

Someone said many threads ago that as we know what chocolate, biscuits etc taste like and it is unlikely to be the last time we are ever offered such things, we can pass them up for the time being as we know that they will still be there in the future if we fancy them. I too will be giving the Celebrations etc a big swerve. It is easier for me as I don't especially like sweet things but I love bread, toast etc (even now) so have to make a conscious decision not to have too much of them. In the past I have mindlessly eaten boxes of celebrations as they are there. Madness.

Dinner last night was delicious. I did have the melba toast and the crackers with the cheese but am back on it today. Fortunately as I drank so much water I feel OK this morning after half a bottle of wine. Probably quite a big half. More water and veg beckon. Out to lunch again today. Gawd knows what I will get to eat but there will be something I am sure.

BIWI · 21/12/2013 10:08

Someone brought a huge tin of Quality Street into the office last week, so I had one - and actually had to acknowledge to myself that they aren't very nice. Cheap chocolate and over-sweet fillings. So it was very easy not to have any more. Hotel Chocolat chocolates, though, are a very different matter!

I bought a box for the family and have had perhaps 3 myself? Thankfully DH has eaten the rest.

I have just added a chestnut roast recipe to the food section:chestnut roast

Lovely low carb accompaniment to Christmas dinner, or vegetarian alternative.

You could leave out the carrots if you wanted to make it even lower. Chestnuts have 31g carb per 100g, which isn't that low, although for the whole dish this means 62g, and as an accompaniment, easily serves 8, so not too bad.

MillyChristmas · 21/12/2013 16:00

Is low carb helpful when your menopausal in any way?

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/12/2013 08:38

Hi Milly, I haven't got any direct experience of menopause! but others have reported that it massively helped them with it!

LCHammer · 22/12/2013 08:42

I guess it would help with the middle age spread :)

BIWI · 22/12/2013 10:37

It definitely helps keep the hot flushes down/at bay

OP posts:
Mary1972 · 22/12/2013 16:57

I'm 52 and not had a single menopause or pre menopause symptom and it may be because of how I eat which is 100% clean, no alcohol and usualy high good fat, low carb, medium protein (of course I don't know that - it could all be about to hit me next year)

nappyaddict · 22/12/2013 19:38

BIWI

We are going to a German Christmas Market. DP is on Bootcamp Light now and he wanted me to double check whether he can eat salami? And if you know the carb count for roasted chestnuts as he knows he is allowed a small amount of nuts on Bootcamp Light.

Also he wants to know why you consider beetroot to be too carby when raw beetroot is 4.6 and pickled and drained beetroot is 5.6?
