The Final Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp Weigh-in!

BIWI · 18/11/2013 07:46

Morning all!

Today is our last official weigh-in. Come and declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it's a good result!

And I hope that everyone has done well over the Bootcamp.

Don't despair that it's the end, though! We will keep a chat thread going, and the spreadsheet is always there, so that there is support for all of us who continue to struggle with our inner gobbler low carb.

There are still 5 weeks till Christmas, so time to shed a few more pounds before the big day ...

Flowers to you all

I'm wondering - could you use tofu instead? I haven't cooked much with it, but it does have a sort-of pasta-ish consistency

Hello BIWI n Stuntnun thanks for the advice. I should add that I lost 6 pounds in August by not being a pig on holiday, and then 8 pounds in my first week prior to staring the bootcamp in its week 1 and my week 2, so have lost 2.5 stones since mid august. My initial carb count was about 25 to 30g per day but now it is up to about 50g per day (hence practically sts for a couple of weeks, I think)

Today I have had a busy day and so had small tin tuna & flaxseed mayo for breakfast with a 3g ryvita type carboard bread for breakfast. Then 2 egg & cheese omelette in my 5 minute lunchour, half a peppeoni when my stomach was gurgling in the afternoon, bolognese sauce n cheese for tea and a profusion 5g bread & butter. Plus 4 squares of 8 chocolate (7g) plus a couple of fruit teas n almost enough water. I usually have a bowl of broccoli n butter each day with cauliflower in.

Yesterday I had 1 egg mayo with flaxseed on 3 celery sticks for breakfast, big prawn mayo salad with lettuce, tomato, grated carrot, sweetcorn, cucumber, and couple of slices of beetroot (I was paying for it so determined to eat it all) then squirty cream with 10g Lizis granola and boccoli n butter for tea. Plus a couple of squares of 85 per cent choc (notice a pattern..) And a sweet as my 7 yr old dd insisted (I worked out later it was 3.3g carb)

Today was more cheaty carb (cardboard ryvita thing plus a profusion bread) as I was thinking of my hernia (!) but my ketostik is the darkest it has been for ages (moyen) Not up to my water quota today.

I will go and get it checked out.

But thanks for the tips on the carb ladder. I think I may be on the right carb level but need to swap over to more of the right kind of carbs right now. I was walking about 4 miles a day until I got car yesterday. My legs are back to the same shape they were 10 years ago. (Welcome back, legs). As is my chin. And I am taking the supplements that IPD recommends. I have lots of energy.

Any hints and tips very welcome. Sorry this is long.

Keepinkeepinon I think you need more fat in your work meal

you're right about buying stuff, it rarely works very well

for work i usually have salad like you, but just lettuce and cucumber. i then usually add some kind of cooked meat plus mayonnaise (tuna mayo, chicken mayo, egg mayo (oh yes my colleagues love me), cold beef or ham etc), and sometimes cheese too. hopefully you have access to a fridge?

do you have access to a microwave? leftovers from the night before are great when i'm bored of salad or fancy something hot at lunchtime

WillieWaggledagger · 22/11/2013 07:39

so i would increase the fat and possibly protein too. tuna is cheap, though i try not to have it every day, as are eggs which are fine every day. i will only usually have cold ham or beef if there's been an offer on in the supermarket, then i cook a large joint and have the leftovers for lunches and suppers. there's only me and DP in my house though

Biggest Loser of the Week: AuntieMaggie
Biggest Overall Loser: whodunnit
Biggest %age Loser Overall: tenementfunster

well done to you all!

until we start another bootcamp, i won't be doing biggest loser etc on a weekly basis. however, the spreadsheet will still be there and there are weigh-in dates available for forthcoming weeks, so if it helps you feel free to keep logging your weight there

LilyAmaryllis · 22/11/2013 11:38

The other thing is that eating when you get in could be an "emotional eating" response to getting home, and if so then you need to reach for non-carby snacks. I think even, whip up a quick scrambled eggs, for example. Or have some Total yogurt. It is meant to be the case that if you're hungry, eat, on this WOE. But not eat carbs!

BIWI · 22/11/2013 13:44

To be honest, keepon, it sounds like your fasting isn't working, if you're driven to eat like that!

As Willie says, more fat. And I'd also try and have something for breakfast as well - even if it's something small - but make sure it's high fat. How about a hardboiled egg mashed with butter?

Can you all please remind me that my New Years resolution has to be to ditch the chemical shitstorm in a bottle Diet Coke. I love it and am drinking too much of it so it has to go. I am still fat enough that it is not affecting my weight loss but it cannot continue.

I put on 10lb in a weekend Angry a couple of weeks ago when I had a boozey, bingey weekend which was super annoying as I had just passed my 3 1/2stone mark. It has taken me 2 weeks to get back there and, guess what, we are out for a curry with friends again tomorrow! Oddly enough I am now just 3lbs heavier than I was 2 weeks ago, which could just be normal fluctuations, but I feel thinner and think my stomach has gone down a bit

So my plan is:
Low carb through day tomorrow, indian meal at night (I will eat what I want but have volunteered to drive to minimise the alcohol damage!)
Back on plan through week
First Xmas party on 7th, at somebody's house so I am at their mercy food-wise
Back on plan for a week
Work Xmas do
Back on plan for a much as I can manage to Xmas

StuntNun · 22/11/2013 23:16

Timid you could get a tandoori, go easy on the curry sauce and have okra, aubergine, cauliflower or mushrooms instead of naan or rice. It's pretty low carb but still delish.

StuntNun · 23/11/2013 14:29

My TOTM is due today. Do many people have a weight gain just before it?

timidviper · 23/11/2013 16:28

Trouble is I am a curry wimp, tandoori stuff can be too spicy, my favourite was always a korma but I know they are very sweet.
I have looked at the menu online and cannot see vegetable dishes but I will look tonight.

tenementfunster · 24/11/2013 12:10

ooh i am chuffed to be mentioned on the loser board!
went and tried something on yesterday, on leaving the changing room i was asked 'any good?'. I said 'No thanks it's TOO BIG'.!!!

ok, brief moment of smuggery over, back to the cauliflower rice. 4 weeks til xmas. lots to lose

timidviper · 24/11/2013 15:13

Well I am feeling smug today. Went out for my curry and, thinking of StuntNun's advice had chicken tikka starter then had a deconstructed donner kebab for main so was able to eat meat and salad with just a little sauce. RESULT!! I was driving so had fizzy water to drink and, the best thing was that this was all accomplished without the "Ooh I'm on a diet" palaver that would be had on WW, SW, etc so nobody was even aware of it.

The portions were so huge (bread was a big round puffy naan thing and was about an inch larger allround than a dinner plate, the meat was piled about 3inches high on it with shredded lettuce and tomato pieces) I ate all I could, brought the remains home and it has done lunch for 3 of us today!

BIWI · 24/11/2013 15:14
Grin Well done, timid!

Good work Timid, it's nice to be able to get out for a meal without having to cheat as eating out seems to be the biggest problem for this woe. We were at Pizza Express yesterday and managed an antipasti starter of olives, cured meats, etc, salad for a main course and a tiny dessert of figs and mascarpone cream. I didn't see a weight gain this morning so it seems I got away with it. I also had Tesco Clubcard vouchers which brought the bill down to £11.15! GrinGrinGrin

sybilfaulty · 24/11/2013 17:56

Timid, one of the things I love so much about this WOE is that I don't have to explain my diet to people when we eat out. For something like a curry, I just order mains and sides and pass on the rice, but noone seems to care or even notice. Cauli rice is great but not easy to get out so I am happy to just eat whatever veg the curry place has . Cauliflower bhaji is great (providing no potatoes in it!). I always felt as though I had a big "fatty" sign over my head when I was on a diet which was salad, low fat crap and not much else, which is not nice. Here, no one can even tell!

We went to carluccio's today and I had the antipasto supremo which was wonderful. I did have a teeny piece of bread with my pate, but mainly just meat and veg. Really good lunch. Am having a glass of wine now.

BIWI · 24/11/2013 18:03

Sounds good, both of you! I do think it's much easier to accommodate low carbing when you're eating out than low fat/low calorie.

Thai food is probably the most difficult (apart from pizza and pasta of course!)
