The Final Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp Weigh-in!

BIWI · 18/11/2013 07:46

Morning all!

Today is our last official weigh-in. Come and declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it's a good result!

And I hope that everyone has done well over the Bootcamp.

Don't despair that it's the end, though! We will keep a chat thread going, and the spreadsheet is always there, so that there is support for all of us who continue to struggle with our inner gobbler low carb.

There are still 5 weeks till Christmas, so time to shed a few more pounds before the big day ...

Flowers to you all

As we get towards christmas there's going to be more and more occasions where I have to think "I have to eat it, so I might as well enjoy it".

A work event last Friday where mainly, the food was (very nice) sandwiches. And today, an early "christmas dinner" with one part of the family. As I'm not a meat-eater I was served with a fish pie in flaky pastry. (all the other trimmings of veg/roast veg were great... I didn't have potato).

BUT apart from that I have been keeping the faith - so NO cakes or fruit at the work event. No mince pies or chocolates today. Water to drink.

The scales were OK this morning, don't know how they'll be tomorrow. There are other work events and christmas parties to come in the month ahead. And, I am very happy that there are, and will aim to keep the savoury transgressions to the minimum necessary and the sweet ones to exceptional circumstances!

AND it was very very nice, to appear as a slim person in the official annual family photo today!

I am not sure who it was who advised me to only jump back on the wagon when i felt properly ready, but thank you Flowers. Not quite back on track (wobbly with late night snack because I didn't eat three meals last night, and too much coffee and thus sugar - can't take sweetner I have found it is a big trigger in pain level.) but heading back towards doing better. Now feeling really flat today (3pm slump) but that is carb flu, cheating and lack of sleep issues. Hopefully i can be back on track and starting to feel better again. Flowers to all those who are still about and giving advise. Are we still here or have you decamped to a maintainance thread yet?

I'm here! I don't think that there is another thread. I expect people are just busy.

I was a totally carb monster yesterday on my sons birthday but am doing better today. Let's keep chatting and supporting each other through the festive food season!

Good to see you again New Start Smile

I had a carby twat day yesterday, culminating in half a potion of sweet and sour chicken with rice Blush Anyway, today is a new day and I've been good, whereas on SW or WW I'd have carried on pigging till my next weigh date.

Sounds like a survival plan Maryz.

I was doing really really well until ds offered me a chocolate biscuits and I didn't think. Planning to do some extra exercise tonight as penance and continue being strict in the meantime.

Water water water! I have not drunk enough today as we had a gas leak so no heating - cups of tea all the way. Now I think about it I should have had herbal.

Still, we can keep on keeping on. If we slip up a bit, that's better than giving up. We don't want to stamp on our phones if we drop them, do we? I love that analogy.

Right, gas is back now so roast pork hash beckons. Yummy.

Ooo that sounds lovely Sybil. recipe?

also why did no one tell that cheesy mash made with cauli instead of pots was so lovely? Shock

Sybil, you are dead right. Water is the answer. My loss had slowed right down and I realised that it is the water that I was just not getting through. So I have upped it to what it should be and am more on track again.
I make sure i have a 75cl bottle full 5 times a day, and I keep it inthe bathroom. One first thing with my vitamins, one at lunch, one when I get in from work, one when DD is brushing her teeth and the last one before I go to bed. It is easier that way for me rather than trying to remember to sip all day long. And keeping it in the bathroom is good as I do need the loo and can't forget it.

Work Christmas do tomorrow. I am going to be wearing... drum roll... a dress I last wore in my twenties! I never thought I'd ever be able to get it on again, I only kept it out of sheer sentimental value.

Well done Lily - enjoy the works do.

I actually slept a proper night's sleep last night. I had forgotten how much sugar and carbs affect my sleeping. Can't say i feel great but it will get there.

Hi everyone

Well done Lily, I bet that feels great! I am nearly back in the clothes I had last year (before weight gain.)

I got my ketosis testing sticks today, it's showing that I definitely have ketones (more than trace) which is great as I did slip up a bit at the weekend. Started Karate last night too.

Weight loss has stalled, but as I said I had a slip (4 Roses!) and TBH at this time of year with my family it's terribly difficult to avoid alcohol. Sticking to gin with sparkling water which is very nice. Grin

Tomorrow is one month since I started, and I'm 10lb down. Size 12 trousers fitting again! 1 and a half stone to goal weight.

BIWI · 04/12/2013 13:35

Don't waste your money on the ketostix! If you're drinking the right amount of water they will only show up as a very pale pink/trace anyway - and if you follow Bootcamp rules you will be burning fat ...

Hello everyone - I've found you again!

About a month ago I got really bad toothache - I mean really bad, I was crying with the pain. Dentist could do nothing as it was unclear which tooth was causing the problem (pain was across my entire head) so we had to just wait for the anti biotics to work.

the combination of pain, stress, antibiotics plus LOADS AND LOADS of nurofen plus meant that any thoughts of weightloss or LC-ing went out the window. I then got badly depressed.

Anyway, I'm back again, and weirdly I haven't put much weight back on although I do feel oddly fat. I need to cut out the carbs RIGHT NOW before everything just goes to pot. I know I will find the support on these threads!!

Anyone got any tips for keeping the water intake up in the winter months? I find it a lot harder to drink cold water now it's December. If I can get the water intake up again I think that will be a good start for me. Thanks

Why not try drinking boiled water, with a slice of lemon in it?

I read in the Times yesterday about a festive drink for us to try - tonice water with lemon / lime and a dash of Angostura bitters. I am sure that fizzy water would be nearly as nice. The key to Christmas boozing is keeping really hydrated, which we all do anyway with all the water of course, and this struck me as a drink which I could have sometimes instead of the wine. Anyway, I've bought the stuff from Tesco to arrive tomorrow and will report back Smile

Hi BIWI

I found this on an old bootcamp thread:

"*Vitamin C deficiency. This is very common in people who are
low-carbing, especially if they are restricting their carbs
severely. Getting only the USRDA (as found in most
multivitamins) is probably not sufficient to prevent signs of
deficiency - like bruising. Vitamin C strengthens blood vessel
walls and makes them more resistant to injury. If you have a
Vitamin C deficiency, you might also have noticed that your
gums bleed sometimes. Good sources of Vitamin C include
peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, strawberries,
cranberries, kohlrabi, cauliflower, collard greens, cabbage,
raspberries, turnip greens, blackberries, okra, and
blueberries. If you are not getting several servings of these
foods daily, you may not be getting enough Vitamin C - even if
you are taking a daily multivitamin."

My DP has been getting bleeding gums, so was thinking this might be the reason. Have found some of the carb values of the fruit on Bootcamp Light.

Blackberries – 4.4g carbs per 100g
Raspberries – 4.6g carbs per 100g
Strawberries – 6g carbs per 100g
Blueberries - 6.4g carbs per 100g

Do you have the carb values for cranberries and also blackcurrants please?

Sybil I often mix 1/3 tonic water with 2/3 fizzy. I still like the taste of the tonic, but on its own it is really sweet.
