The Final Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp Weigh-in!

BIWI · 18/11/2013 07:46

Morning all!

Today is our last official weigh-in. Come and declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it's a good result!

And I hope that everyone has done well over the Bootcamp.

Don't despair that it's the end, though! We will keep a chat thread going, and the spreadsheet is always there, so that there is support for all of us who continue to struggle with our inner gobbler low carb.

There are still 5 weeks till Christmas, so time to shed a few more pounds before the big day ...

Flowers to you all

Nappyaddict - I'm away at the moment so haven't got any of my books. But a quick google says 7.6g carbs per 100g for cranberries and 6.6g fir black currants.

You should not be deficient in a Vitamin C if you are getting your carbs from veg. And assuming that you aren't bring overtly restrictive with your carbs.

TBH if he is getting bleeding gums it's more likely to be gum disease. Has he been to the dentist recently?

If you are worried, then he could try taking a high strength vitamin c tablet and see if that improves things - but get him to go to the dentist too!

Nappyaddict - broccoli, cauli, cabbage, sprouts;- that sounds like a typical dinner in my house! I would be v surprised if I was deficient in Vit C in that case.
But as BIWI says - a Vit C tablet may be of help if your dp is not eating leafy green veg. They are cheap enough, and any 'excess' will just be wee'd away

Aargh fell off the wagon after a bout of depression and a rather large quantity of chocolates (DMIL thought chocs were low carb and bought me a box). What did I miss?

BIWI · 09/12/2013 19:23

Oh, Stunt - I'm sorry to hear you've been depressed. How are things now? ignores all reference to chocolates

Not bad thanks BIWI, my DH was away on business for a couple of weeks and I struggled with all three kids on my own. Anyway I suddenly find I have 2.5 lb to lose again just before Christmas. Oh well, onward and downward.

sybilfaulty · 10/12/2013 07:02

Sorry to hear that you have had a tough time, Stunt. Hope things are a bit better.

So much work to do today - and so much water to drink! Better crack on.

Keep on keeping on, my friends. Even if we don't lose much or any, we can avoid ending up on 6th Jan 10lbs heavier Smile

sybilfaulty · 10/12/2013 07:03

Stunt, that 2.5lb is probably just water. Drink drink and eat carefully ish, and it will melt away really quickly. I find binge weight is only temporary. The longer term stuff is more challenging....

it is bloody hard, but perhaps eating a few nice more decadent bits which are low carb, will make you feel better? So for lunch i had avocado wrapped in smoked salmon. it is so tempting to think sod it, , but if i fold now, it's nearly a month before next bootcamp, and i will inflate like a life raft within days.

i find that i agonise about chucking out choc and the like because it's a waste. a few moments after i chuck it, i've forgotten all about it. i just can't have it around. it has too many coping/happy/unhappy connotations so it's a lifeline in any given situation.
tomorrow is another day!
good luck

There are so many reasons to eat the food we weren't meaning to eat... the straightforward carb-blood-sugar-drop-addiction; emotional habits reacting to boredom, stress, comfort, "reward".... its a psychological minefield out there.

At least low-carbing gets rid of the craving that shouts the loudest (for me). I noticed that at the work xmas meal, after wolfing down the non-low-carb main courses, there was no power on earth going to stop me eating the little chocs that came with the coffees. (I did resist an actual pudding). After I've had carbs I just have this "I'm still empty" feeling that begs for something sweet. I am a total, hardcore, carb addict - I have come to realise this through this WoE, which releases me from that addiction.

But the emotional triggers still remain. Working from home on boring work I might be trying to avoid, is a dangerous one.. leads to prowling the kitchen looking for things to eat. (cheese, nuts, cream... my current downfalls!). End of the day, got the kids to bed... deserve a reward? Cooking for the family while feeling slightly peckish - snack as you cook. etc etc

I don't really know the "top tip" on avoiding chocolate - but I guess we do all have these struggles with willpower and our own emotions, all the time. The line about not never eating it, you will taste it again one day... can be quite helpful? You could set yourself "rules" (eg I'll have some chocolate on Sunday but not before) but I often find that sort of thing doesn't work well for me - I start obsessing and then cave in. That is one big reason I would not be psychologically well cut out for 5:2!

whodunnit · 10/12/2013 22:33

Hello keeponkeepin
I write a daily diary of my food and tot up the carbs. These past few weeks i've been on about 50 to 60g of carbs per day (way too much really and it has crept up from about 20g at the start of bootcamp) which comprises about half meals and half snacks. My loss dropped off a bit lately and I reviewed my diary and realised that I was not drinking enough water. So I am making a detemined effort to drink lots. I try to get a routine going to make myself drink it (one bottle with my contraceptive pill in the morning, another at lunch to wash down some vitamin tablets, one after work which I have with diaryte on the docs advice to replace the washed out salts and potassium, then one at DD bedtime while she is brushing her teeth and one at my bedtime). This is the key to it for me, I think, and I have started to lose a bit more now I am doing this. I am following the Idiot proof diet advice which seems to work for me.

Hope that helps.

sybilfaulty · 11/12/2013 06:20

Second the loads of water. I have also tried the tonic / angostura combo and it is really nice, a good alternative to proper drink which is more exciting than tea or fizzy water in the evening.

Probably the only bit of good advice I had from WW over the years was to wear a waistband over Christmas. As your jeans get tighter (or your muffin top billows over the top in my case) you start to rein yourself in a little. If you are in leggings and dresses, there is no incentive to silence the inner gobbler. I have had to undo my trousers whilst driving as they have been so tight and it's reminded me how much I dislike the bloated carb feeling and so stopped me eating quite as much.

Worth a try?

nappyaddict · 11/12/2013 12:06

BIWI

Will book him an appointment at the dentist cos we do eat quite a bit of green veg anyway 4-6 different types with dinner usually.

He has been doing bootcamp (but won't sign up to MN so I have been asking questions for him on the threads) and is almost at target so will be graduating to bootcamp light soon. On the rules blueberries are 6.4g carbs aren't they and that's the highest one listed so I presume cranberries at 7.6g carbs and blackcurrants at 6.6g carbs would be too high even for bootcamp light?

BIWI · 11/12/2013 13:07

I would think they might be - but it's worth trying. You never know, he might be able to tolerate a higher level of carbs

Pleaseandthankyou · 11/12/2013 13:51

Managing to sts even after the introduction of some carbs, mainly in the form of triple cooked chips, bacon bagels and wine. I sure it will be all uphill to Christmas. As others have said, you wouldn't jump on your mobile if you dropped it. Trying to make as many low carb choices as possible.

tenementfunster · 11/12/2013 19:45

WillieWagglingRoundTheXmasTree · 11/12/2013 20:14

it seems ok to me right now and tbh i haven't even looked at the spreadsheet for a couple of weeks so i haven't changed any settings myself. could someone else have a look at it and let me know if it's doing the same for them? not that i would necessarily be able to resolve it if it is...!

tenementfunster · 11/12/2013 20:50

could be my stoopid computer
thanks for looking x

NewStartNewStory · 12/12/2013 02:11

I found that it was a glitch with google rather then the spreadsheet. if i opened the spread sheet in the same window I had just had my hotmail/gmail open in it threw a bit of a strop. Opening the link in a different browser got around the problem at the time and I haven't had problems since. If that helps?

WillieWagglingRoundTheXmasTree · 12/12/2013 04:12

Hmm how strange hopefully just a temporary glitch?

tenementfunster · 12/12/2013 14:04

thanks for advice, still can't do it. could someone put me down as 161.25 ?
thank you

WillieWagglingRoundTheXmasTree · 12/12/2013 15:02

done! sorry i haven't been very helpful... do you have a googlemail account and might that be messing it about?
