The Final Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp Weigh-in!

BIWI · 18/11/2013 07:46

Morning all!

Today is our last official weigh-in. Come and declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it's a good result!

And I hope that everyone has done well over the Bootcamp.

Don't despair that it's the end, though! We will keep a chat thread going, and the spreadsheet is always there, so that there is support for all of us who continue to struggle with our inner gobbler low carb.

There are still 5 weeks till Christmas, so time to shed a few more pounds before the big day ...

Flowers to you all

I made a fantastic sauce tonight! I fried mushrooms (chopped small) in lots of butter, then added nearly half a boursin cheese and stirred it in, (and added a bit of grated cheddar too). Yum! DH had his sauce on pasta; I had it on salmon and veg. veg that included brussels sprouts! DH likes them. I decided to make a sauce mainly to mask the sprouts!!

Just dropped a pound this week after none last week. My downfallis nuts and not enough water, I think. So easy to eat 100g of nuts in a day.

I am determined to get the last 4.5 kg off by christmas. Either that or wear a pair of size 18 trousers I have bought specially. I can now get my 20's off without unzipping them.

Thanks to everyone for the massive suppport it has made a huge difference having you lot to talk to.. I would have given up long before now, I am sure.

See you in January for the next bootcamp.... ho ho ho.....
(yeah, like I can resist logging onto this thread every night!)

tenementfunster · 19/11/2013 05:43

I will be here too, whodunnit! I figure that if I continue to do this with no let up, i won't get a few more weeks closer to xmas and get that 'oh sod it i'll start again after xmas' feeling that means all my hard work will be undone.
good luck!

sybilfaulty · 19/11/2013 06:47

It's funny, last year I gave myself permission to have a few treats at Christmas but found that I mainly didn't want them when push came to shove. I had a bit of baguette, but a small bit was enough rather than the whole thing, one mince pie (possibly the only sweet thing I really like) was fab but I didn't need more and I left all the chocs, celebrations etc alone. Obviously I had several gallons of wine and champagne though. I ended the festive season at pretty much the same weight as I had started it which was handy.

The "lovely" Rosemary Conley did have one very good top tip for the Christmas period - wear a waistband. If you have something tight (or fitted) ie not leggings or just tights) round your waist, your blow outs show up a whole lot more than they otherwise would and you naturally stop earlier as your knickers are cutting you in half. It really does work (unless you think fuck it and take them off!)

Rosemary would probably faint at all the cream and cheese going down in our house though.

WillieWaggledagger · 19/11/2013 08:17

lol sybil

i agree about when push comes to shove you often end up not being that bothered about some things you're 'allowing' yourself at christmas. there are some christmas foods i don't actually like (christmas pudding, fruit cake, anything marzipan-y, stuffing), but i love mince pies with a love that is unnatural!

hopefully this christmas i can do what i did last year. i avoided all the crappy freebie mince pies that seem available everywhere in the run-up to christmas, and saved myself for the lovely buttery homemade ones on the day. i found i wasn't interested in the mountains of roses and celebrations (which you can get anywhere at any time of year) but enjoyed the posh truffles that we were given as a present. i wasn't going to stop myself eating bread and potatoes, but actually found i wasn't very interested in them anyway so didn't bother

the main thing i want to do (which i was proud of myself for managing last year) is to allow myself to enjoy eating off-piste without getting into the mindset of eating crap for the sake of it because it's back on the diet tomorrow. that way bingeing and self-loathing lies

captainmummy · 19/11/2013 08:26

I'm not fussed about much of the christmas food either Willie. Christmas pudding, mince pies, cake.. I find it all abit too stodgy. And my tastes have changed - I never had a particularly sweet tooth, but now I can't even eat a sweet dessert, or chocolate, or sweets without feeling like my teeth are curling up! (Although MIL does a fab fruit salad which we have with cream/creme fraiche/creme anglaise - I do still miss my fruit)
Bring on lashing of the turkey I say! And gravy and greens - I'm not even bothered about roasties any more.

Dinner yesterday was chicken drumsticks coated in chili flakes and fried, with steamed cabbage cooked in lots of butter.

Pleaseandthankyou · 19/11/2013 11:36

Haven't lost a lot on this bootcamp but have had other issues so delighted I am still on a downward trend. There is very little hanging over my waistband. Thanks BIWI and Willie. I have lost my taste for sweet things. Unfortunately I haven't lost my taste for wine, salted almonds, or Lindt 70% chocolate. I will be keeping on. I would like to lose another 7lbs but happy to lose it slowly.

prettybird · 19/11/2013 19:05

Oops - I've been AWOL I've dropped off the Spreadsheet Blush Can someone put me back on please? Won't show much of a drop over the 10 weeks but it'll help keep me on the straight and naorrow and have a record of my weight.

WillieWaggledagger · 19/11/2013 20:19

you're back on there prettybird!

colette · 19/11/2013 21:50

Some good ideas about Xmas food and strategies, I think it's that time after christmas when there's loads of rubbish still in the house that's the problem and I am in the habit of having christmas cake with every cup of tea !Dhopefully will find all that icing too sweet
Will keep going until xmas

decaffwithcream · 19/11/2013 22:26

Will the low carb recipes be back when the revamped Recipe section is finished?

They were a great resource but the link leads to a dead page atm (and a search only brings up the few recipes that had low carb in their actual name).

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 19/11/2013 22:35

Hello.

Sadly final weigh in coincided with totm, but on 1/2 lb on, so not too bad.

187, so 10 off since start of BC & 13.5 off since lc (2 weeks before bootcamp). Scales went down to 185.5 mid week last week though!

I'm relaxing but not stopping over Christmas. Most worried about 4 day trip to London. I hate having just one or 2 choices when eating out.

Well done everyone. Thanks again BiWi & Willie.

See you all soon.

captainmummy · 20/11/2013 08:01

Decaf - there is a low-carb recipe thread all of our own! It's here

hello... I know I wasn't coming back until January... but I have pain in my waist when I lean over which has been suggested by a nurse friend who had a prod that it might be a hernia. Over to google and it seems they are not uncommon in obese people who lose a lot of weight quickly. That would be me, then. Sooooo... how do I carry on this WOE and lose more weight but more slowly? I def need to lose the weight so do I just cheat occasionally? daily? I am really already doing the bootcamp light so how do I do it lighter and still not get to hunger which is my weak point?

I know lots of you are on end of your weight loss journey, so how do I move more slowly, as you must have, without getting back into the whole sugar thing?

Help!

BIWI · 21/11/2013 07:44

What is your rate of loss, whodunnit?

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/11/2013 07:49

Atually I've just answered that question by looking at the spreadsheet!

It looks like you're losing between 2 and 4lbs a week - some weeks you have STS or lost only 1lb.

I'm no medic or expert, but I wouldn't have thought this would be losing too much too quickly, given the weight you started at.

And as long as you are following this WOE sensibly - i.e. getting your carbs from veg/salad in the main, with some fruit and nuts, then I would be very surprised that it is an issue.

BUT

there is obviously something amiss here, and you're clearly worried about it.

Go to see your GP and get a proper diagnosis! No disrespect to your nurse friend or Dr Google, but you need to get this checked out.

Whatever you do, don't start the whole cheating bit - you will sabotage what you've already achieved.

I would also suggest that you write out for us what you are eating on a typical day - so we can make sure that it's OK!

WillieWaggledagger · 21/11/2013 08:02

whodunnit - what biwi said

and if once you know what's up you do decide to increase carbs a little in order to reduce the rate of weight loss, it would be better to include more of the carbier veg (carrots, peas) and maybe more berries and nuts, than to start eating sugar and wheat products

StuntNun · 21/11/2013 08:45

Definitely get it checked out Whodunnit but one way to lose weight more slowly is using the Atkins carb ladder. The Atkins advice is to add a 'rung' of the ladder until your weight loss is in the desired range. 1-2 lb a week is usually considered healthy and also makes it easier for your skin to shrink back as you lose weight.

BIWI · 21/11/2013 09:08

That's a really useful link, StuntNun - I've not seen that before - thanks!

StuntNun · 21/11/2013 10:53

I'm sure there's a better one on Mark's Daily Apple BIWI but I couldn't find it on my phone.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to BIWI and Willie for all their work and support on these threads. Today I achieved my weight loss goal of 30 lb - 19% of my body weight - to reach my pre-pregnancy weight of 9st 6lb and I couldn't be happier. Over the five months that's one-and-a-third pounds off a week so textbook weight loss. I wish I could say it was all down to my hard work and self-control but there was rather more eating roast pork belly and mushrooms fried in butter and chortling to myself about my 'diet'. I'd like to lose another four pounds and DH still has another half a stone to lose so I'm going to keep going until Christmas then move to a maintenance version of the WOE. I can't overestimate how indebted I am to these threads and the support I have received. I can honestly say I would not have been able to do it without you guys.

LilyAmaryllis · 21/11/2013 11:36

That's wonderful StuntNun!

BIWI · 21/11/2013 13:22

Brilliant, StuntNun! Well done you. The hard work absolutely was all yours Flowers

Is Crabby about? I found this amazing-looking macaroni cheese recipe involving cauliflower and I am trying to work out how to de-pasta-ize it.
