Morning all!

Today is our last official weigh-in. Come and declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

I hope it's a good result!

And I hope that everyone has done well over the Bootcamp.

Don't despair that it's the end, though! We will keep a chat thread going, and the spreadsheet is always there, so that there is support for all of us who continue to struggle with our inner gobbler low carb.

There are still 5 weeks till Christmas, so time to shed a few more pounds before the big day ...

Yes, cooks make so many things sweet. I am lucky that I always liked very plain food (fussy eater as a child, never would have things like gravy, tomato sauce, stews) so eating basic normal food is pretty easy for me. But even every single night at this French hotel the maids come in and they put on every bed two sticky sweets. I put them straight in the bin and even my sons did that this morning although they are eating more than enough Christmas chocolate. IN the ski shop yesterday they were handing out a tray of chocolates free too which thankfully had been emptied by the time we got there. Anyway it's all about us.

Merry Christmas!

I'm loving the typical Christmas food as the majority is low carb (just avoiding roast pots, parsnips & stuffing!) and the cold cut lunches! I have sneaked a mince pie but not been fussed about anything else.

I got "low carb'ing for families" book off DH, had a flip through so far and recipes look good - even has 'puddings' which are low carb and don't have sugar - artificial or otherwise so I'm quite impressed by that as that is the one thing that is nice as a treat when visitors visit. I'll have a proper look over the next few days and post a bit more... there were some good breakfast ideas as well but I need to read the ingredients properly before I recommend any!

Looking forward to the bootcamp just to keep me on the straight and narrow!

Merry Christmas.
I am like an alcoholic. Once I am off sugar I don't want it and cannot have even a bit otherwise I am back to swuare one and the desire for it has dissipated in any event. So that has made Christmas better, not worse for me.

I still think though that this hotel's dinners and complex meals have things added I would never eat at home. Breakfasts are fine as I can have eggs and bacon as at home.

The nicest thing this Christmas is that now I am out of the habit I don't want all the children's chocolate which is all over. No scales here on holiday so no idea if I lost any weight. (Stiff neck and glands hurting today though like some kind of post viral fatigue thing which I hope will just last a few days and cannot be related to what I eat I;m sure. It's not "low carb flu" as I've been eating low carb without symptoms for weeks.)

Sounds like you are doing well, Mary. I had some pavlova yesterday and paid for it big time. My poor body cannot cope with effectively neat sugar. I was horribly bloated and windy (sorry) which serves as a warning to hold fire today....

I have however made Mary Berry's winter streusel which looks fab even if I won't be eating it!

Not hit menopause yet, not a single sign which is very surprising given my age. I wish someone had told me at 40 not even to think about it and at my age (52) I would be having the same periods as from 13 - 40. I presume it will be imminent but perhaps it will be easy because of how I eat... I am ever the optimist.

I keep feeling poisoned by the hotel... sugar glaze on duck and then last night it was alcohol in the beef. I just never have that home and don't eat out so it's only on holiday you realise how many foods people have and make which are full of additional things. Even today's lunch salmon with veg had a kind of thin potato thing hidden in the veg which I ate and was so small it is not a major issue but it was there, no on the menu and hidden in the food.

What about an ordinary vinaigrette, to which you had added some wholegrain mustard? Then you get a bit of texture as well as the taste. (But make it with wine vinegar, not balsamic)

I am thinking about a starter for Christmas day. I think I want to do portobello mushrooms with camembert on top of baby spinach/rocket. I want a sauce to drizzle over the salad but not sure what. Usually I would do balsamic or sweet chilli but want to try and stick to this WOE as much as we can even on Christmas Day.

nappy - that's one of the reasons that I put together the 'allowed' veg list. There's no point, especially if you're going to do this long term, obsessing about specific carb counts. Just accept that there are some veg that are definite 'no no's (e.g. potatoes/sweet potatoes/sweetcorn) - or at least ones that you restrict to very special occasions! - and there are those that you can consume without worrying - all those on the list that are 3-4g carbs per 100g or less.

Buy yourself a carb counter and have a good look at the counts they give - but accept that they all vary, and different veg will vary according to the variety - so that you have the knowledge about what you are prepared to have on your allowed/not allowed lists.

I am feeling very pleased that I got off sugar. Once I lose the habit I am not tempted. We are at the same hotel as last year skiing and last year I had to have all the chocolate puddings after dinner, children's chocolate in the rooms and chcolate muffins at breakfast. This year as I am out of the habit I don't want it at all .

So even though I feel absolutely stuffed and need to do something about the huge evening meals (we are on half board) I am still pleased. I wish they just did plainer food. At home we don't have complex sauces etc. I might just have to have the soup course tonight.

This is a very useful thread, thank you. I named changed from the one above - another Mary? because I didn't remember my user name here on holiday.

Salami is fine, from the carb point of view, but bear in mind that it's a processed food - so not too much/too often!

Beetroot is carbier than that I think see here

But even if your carb counts are right, they are still higher than the 3g per 100g that we try and eat on Bootcamp.

Chestnuts are really high in carbs:

100g of chestnuts

Calories 170.0kcal
Carbohydrate 36.6g
Protein 2.0g
Fat 2.7g
Fibre 4.1g

(from weight loss resources)

Beansprouts are 3.2g carbs per 100g and waterchestnuts are, apparently, 24g - which surprises me, as I always thought they were relatively low. However, they are relatively light and you probably don't eat that much of them!

We are going to a German Christmas Market. DP is on Bootcamp Light now and he wanted me to double check whether he can eat salami? And if you know the carb count for roasted chestnuts as he knows he is allowed a small amount of nuts on Bootcamp Light.

Also he wants to know why you consider beetroot to be too carby when raw beetroot is 4.6 and pickled and drained beetroot is 5.6?

I'm 52 and not had a single menopause or pre menopause symptom and it may be because of how I eat which is 100% clean, no alcohol and usualy high good fat, low carb, medium protein (of course I don't know that - it could all be about to hit me next year)
