Week 4 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half!

BIWI · 03/06/2024 07:03

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So this week sees us reaching the end of the first half - so 'only' another 4 to go!

Remember that week 4, along with week 3, can be a tough week from the POV of weight loss, so if things look like they're slowing down/stopping, despite your best efforts, don't be downhearted. We see this every Bootcamp, without fail! Just KOKO (and make sure you're following the rules, of course), and things will get going again.

We took advantage of the lovely weather yesterday to have our first barbecue of the year. Can't believe we had to wait until June! But I love a barbecue as it's so easy from a low carb perspective. On the menu this time we had:

  • halloumi in lemon, garlic and coriander dressing
  • home-made beef burgers (just beef mince, with some added olive oil and salt/pepper/mixed herbs), with fried onions and plastic cheese (It's got to be plastic cheese!) DH/DC had their in buns, I had mine 'naked'.
  • chicken breast fillets, on skewers, which had been marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and fresh oregano
  • sausages
  • aubergine, served with FFGY into which I'd added the zest of a mandarin, and a little bit of its juice
And to go with this I'd made coleslaw, a green salad and (for the rest of the family) potato salad.

Loads left, so I know what I'm having for lunch!

Sadly the weather doesn't look like it's going to be anything like as nice for the rest of the week Sad
However, I hope you all have a good week. @MissBeck I haven't seen either of those books before, so looking forward to hearing your review!

Thanks @BIWI . I'm having to remember that because I don't have masses to lose, and because I'm in a healthy weight band (just edging towards the upper end), I'm not going to see humongous results. But 1.8lbs off this week, which is good.

BIWI · 03/06/2024 08:24

That is good progress @Lougle - and 5lbs overall, since you started, which is great.

Good Morning!
1.3lb loss this week. I'll take that! 😁
Had a good look through the books last night and was a bit shocked with the bigger book and what they call 'low carb'. Some recipies were in their 20's and 30g per serving! 😮And contained a lot of stuff that I'd need to buy, use it once, and then it would never be seen again! 😄
The small book however was much more simplistic and will be used in experiments over the next few weeks!
I also realised last night that I subscribe to Kindle unlimited, so searched LCHF books, and had downloaded about £100 worth of books withing 10 minutes! 😂

crosspatchdownthehatch · 03/06/2024 08:30

I fell off last week but am down 4.8 lbs over the boot camp - yay! Been running round everywhere but snacking on sardines in tomato sauce, hard boiled eggs, and cheese! Lots and lots of salad too and veg.

italian sausage meat (fennel) tonight with salad and veg, pasta for kids.

BIWI · 03/06/2024 08:32

I think the thing there @MissBeck is that those recipes probably are low carb, compared to 'normal' meals, which will contain many more carbs. But they aren't necessarily low enough for weight loss.

I get Olive magazine every month, and their recipes always give the nutritional information, which is very helpful - but the vast majority have carb counts per serving of at least 50g. Sometimes a huge amount more, if it's pasta/rice-based.

Sounds like those books are for a general, maintenance, sort of low carb diet - which is fair enough - shows you how you can make this WOE work on an ongoing basis.

Which books did you buy for your Kindle?

@BIWI I returned two as had a quick flick through and screenshotted the useful stuff. 😂

😂😂😂 Love this.

The low carb equivalent of wearing an expensive dress and keeping the tags on to return…genius!

Can I ask, how the keto urine sticks work and are they worth using? I’ve read mixed things about their accuracy.

Edited

Well I ordered them at the start, and they did go slightly darker, but @BIWI says cause of all the water we're supposed to be drinking, they won't go the full dark as we're flushing the ketones out. So I stopped using them. 😂

Good morning all. I've made it back to a healthy bmi! Yippee! Only just (24.9). We had a bbq yesterday too. Have to make the most of the sun when it shines....

EveryonesFavouriteNumber · 03/06/2024 09:07

Thanks for the new thread @BIWI . I'm happy to have got back to the same place as at the end of week one after a tricky week two whilst travelling overseas for work. Useful to know about the Keto strips too as I had tried them and seen fairly confusing results. Enjoyed strawberries and cream at the weekend after a BBQ too - all of it felt like a big treat (though I was envious of the very nice potato salad everyone was tucking in to (that I had made!). Still, the dress size down wardrobe sitting upstairs waiting for me since I could last fit in to it will be worth the sacrifice!

OpalTiger · 03/06/2024 09:19

Thanks @BIWI. Like @Lougle I think I need to remind myself that I am not going to see huge losses - it’s just somewhat disheartening when I went into the weekend with what looked like a 3lb loss and today the scales show 1lb down. It’s still a downward trend though and I really enjoy this WOE - my sugar addiction is definitely getting easier to control (despite the Percy Pig-cident)!

Bex5490 · 03/06/2024 09:37

@BIWI and @MissBeck Thanks for the keto strip advice. I’m losing weight so that’s more important than anything a strip can tell me I guess.

I am SO shocked by how little I’m craving sugar now. I always thought I had a ‘sweet tooth’ but really I was an addict! It honestly feels the same as when I cut my addiction to cigarettes.

SpellitwithaY · 03/06/2024 09:41

Scales showing an 8 and a bit loss this week but true full week weigh in tomorrow morning.

Disclaimer: it IS my week one and I did start at 20st.

I am pleased with that and am fully going for it again this week despite travelling etc.

But you've lost half a stone! And in only 3 weeks! Perspective is really important. I know that by having weekly chat threads/weigh-ins we focus on week-by-week - but the most important thing is your longer term progress. On which basis, you're doing really well Flowers

8lbs??? WOW!! That is amazing!

Lougle · 03/06/2024 10:13

Wow, amazing losses!

Stowickthevast · 03/06/2024 11:21

Not a good week for me as half term staying with the in-laws and a birthday made things very tricky. I'm almost back to where I started so am going to go back strict bootcamp for the next couple of weeks. I'm basically resetting.

I'm at work too and didn't have much in the fridge so am probably going to have a Pret salad for lunch and whatever I can salvage for supper before delivery tomorrow.

lastchancesalmon · 03/06/2024 11:24

Well done on all the losses! I'm down only a tiny bit this week, but of course week 3, and it's near as dammit a half a stone from the start which I am very pleased about. I'm also now noticing cravings becoming less - I was in a real habit of wine and chocolate late at night for example or loading up with bread at lunch.

Like BIWI I love BBQ season as there are lots of easy LCHF leftovers! Last night I had steak with lettuce and caesar dressing, hm coleslaw, hm celeriac remoulade and a burger with melted raclette cheese, barbecued asparagus and courgette.

Very belated Happy Birthday @MissBeck I'm really impressed that you are on bootcamp over your birthday.

MissBeck · 03/06/2024 12:42

@Stowickthevast Good luck for your reset.

@lastchancesalmon Thank you!

Chuckling away to myself here, as I'm eating lunch as keep looking at the clock, as if I was at work! 😂

EasilyDefined · 03/06/2024 13:09

Stayed the same this week, I had slipped a bit over the weekend (not enough water, nibbled a few things I shouldn't, it is much harder at the weekend when everyone else is at home munching crusty bread etc). I have been doing this WOE on and off for about 18 months now and the urge to eat bread is as strong as ever I miss it far more than anything else. Back on it today.

UnOeufIsEnough · 03/06/2024 14:01

@SpellitwithaY amazing on your 8lb loss!! 👏👏

Well done to everyone else for all the losses too! Halo

I'm 2.8lb down this week, which I'm very pleased with! 7lb off on this bootcamp and 28.6lb overall. I'm going away for a long weekend on Thursday so I'll have my work cut out when I get back Wink

PunksVersusBrats · 03/06/2024 17:56

1lb off (so 7lb overall) which I'm pleased with, as a 5ft shortarse with a stone and a bit in total to lose to get to a healthy weight.
Mantras for this week:
Drink all the water.
Attempt to reign in the dairy addiction 🙈

Belated Happy Birthday to@MissBeck 🥳
