Week 4 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half!

BIWI · 03/06/2024 07:03

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So this week sees us reaching the end of the first half - so 'only' another 4 to go!

Remember that week 4, along with week 3, can be a tough week from the POV of weight loss, so if things look like they're slowing down/stopping, despite your best efforts, don't be downhearted. We see this every Bootcamp, without fail! Just KOKO (and make sure you're following the rules, of course), and things will get going again.

We took advantage of the lovely weather yesterday to have our first barbecue of the year. Can't believe we had to wait until June! But I love a barbecue as it's so easy from a low carb perspective. On the menu this time we had:

  • halloumi in lemon, garlic and coriander dressing
  • home-made beef burgers (just beef mince, with some added olive oil and salt/pepper/mixed herbs), with fried onions and plastic cheese (It's got to be plastic cheese!) DH/DC had their in buns, I had mine 'naked'.
  • chicken breast fillets, on skewers, which had been marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and fresh oregano
  • sausages
  • aubergine, served with FFGY into which I'd added the zest of a mandarin, and a little bit of its juice
And to go with this I'd made coleslaw, a green salad and (for the rest of the family) potato salad.

Loads left, so I know what I'm having for lunch!

Sadly the weather doesn't look like it's going to be anything like as nice for the rest of the week Sad
However, I hope you all have a good week. @MissBeck I haven't seen either of those books before, so looking forward to hearing your review!

@PunksVersusBrats Thanks!

Got some chicken thighs in the oven with mushrooms and I'll have steamed brocolli and sprouts tossed in butter with them. Breakfast was cheese and lunch was a cold sausage salad.

@EasilyDefined I know what you mean about the bread. I used to eat half a loaf a day!

lastchancesalmon · 03/06/2024 22:10

Quick check in
B black coffee (cream had gone off 😫)
L bbq leftovers - sausage, lamb steak, coleslaw, remoulade with salad and French dressing.
D - bbq leftover steak with a fried egg and spinach wilted in butter

A revelation this boot camp has been sugar free ketchup from the Hunter & Gather company - I miss ketchup with specific things and it tastes really good.

Unsurprisingly I gained this week as I’ve been a shocker by not sticking to the plan. Lots of excuses but I need to explore why I do this. I’m not giving up though!

Gingerwarthog · 04/06/2024 05:53

10.65
1/2 a pound lost.
Am going to attempt a complete week with no alcohol and see if this has any impact at all.

pangolinfan · 04/06/2024 06:58

1lb off and I'm happy with that. Had some lovely meals and one lapse which was an absolutely delicious pub burger in the sunshine on Sunday after a 10 mile walk, when I ate most of the bun and enjoyed every mouthful. I have slightly struggled with meals that both I and veggie DH will eat and it's been a bit of extra effort sometimes, but otherwise I have enjoyed being back into this WOE very much.

Goodiewhemper · 04/06/2024 07:04

Good morning everyone. I am in the middle of covid (honestly fed up as it is just one virus/illness after another) and was ready to give up on this BC. I have found it really hard over the past few days as we all had covid and I just hadn't the evergy to cook. When you are poorly tea and toast is easier than trying to prepare a hflc meal from scratch. I weighted in this morning and am only .2lbs up so I am going to koko. This will pass and today is another day. I need to keep the target in sight - 3kgs to go. I took some corned beef out of the freezer and will pop it into the slow cooker for tonight and will serve it this evening with some nice buttered cabbage.

I hope you are all well and everyone has a great day.

pangolinfan · 04/06/2024 07:32

Forgot to post meals from yesterday:
B: FFGY, berries, hemp seeds
L: leftover chicken in creamy sun dried tomato sauce (from the recipe threads) and salad
D: salad with brown crab meat, smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Not enough water.

Baystard · 04/06/2024 07:59

Morning all, another with covid here so I'm watching from the sidelines for a bit and will catch up later in the week. Good luck all!

MissBeck · 04/06/2024 08:25

Morning everyone,

Sorry to see Covid is still causing problems for some. 😕

I worked on some of the back garden yesterday, and was hoping to do the front today, but the dark clouds above don't look promising at all, with rain due at 12pm.

As long as you don’t substitute for carby drinks (or start snacking) you’ll see a difference. I sleep soooo much better when I’m off the booze.

TheOnlyMrsW · 04/06/2024 09:02

Slight loss, I know it will move slowly as I don't have much to lose so will keep plodding on. Am not feeling particularly inspired foodwise at the moment, I think because there is lots going on - so very jealous of those of you with bbq weather, I love bbq food, cooking and eating outside and would happily eat it all year round!

@EasilyDefined @MissBeck I'm another with bread as kryptonite, love it in all forms - toast, wraps, bagels, baguettes, crackers, the list is endless. I'm finding it easier to avoid as even before I started this WOE it was starting to upset my stomach but miss it still. I can happily never see potatoes, rice, pasta or any of the other carby things again though! Going to make a LC loaf today in between work as I'm confined to barracks while the roof work is being done so that should help with cravings. Other food plans are omelette for brunch and chinese beef with vegetables for dinner, plus lots of water (or herbal tea as it's still fecking freezing quite chilly here)!!!

@Gingerwarthog Have a look at this photo - this is my weight chart from January, when I was doing Dry January.

See if you can spot when January ends ...

I only managed 0.2kg loss this week, but I report my lowest weight of the week, and this week was more consistently around my low point if that makes sense? I have been having alcohol this week, and as @BIWI 's chart shows well, it really doesn't help one bit, so need to knock it on the head. 13lbs lost since I started, so I am very pleased with that, and I am very pleased that despite things being stressful at the moment (and multiple family birthdays), I have stuck religiously to low carb food.

@MissBeck I made that creamy mushroom chicken breast recipe last night - they were amazing!

Sorry to hear about those with Covid - it's easy to forget it is still around. I hope you feel better soon.

BIWI · 04/06/2024 11:20

Yes it's very easy to think that Covid has gone - when evidently it hasn't. Hoping you recover soon, @Goodiewhemper and @Baystard

I'm still mulling over whether or not to pay for my next booster. Irritatingly I'm just a year too young to qualify for a free one. I've had Covid twice, and although neither time was really too bad (I've had flu twice before and been much more poorly), I don't really want to get it again.

Well after being housebound thanks to the rain I've been cleaning out our spare bedroom. Well, bedroom is a stretch. Dumping ground is more like it! How can two people have so much crap!! And one of us is only 15!! I'm a terrible hoarder and keep everything 'just in case we (or anybody) needs it/one'. Think I'm going to have to be ruthless!! 😩😱

prettybird · 04/06/2024 13:56

I STS this week - but I'm ok with that. I've checked back on this time last year and I'm already half s stone "ahead" of where I was then.

Plus I've got an even more relaxed mindset in that I'm not off on holiday in September as I was last year and am quite happy with aiming at a healthy average of 1lb/week between now and Christmas Halo

I wish we only had one messy room! It was my New Years resolution to declutter and although I have done a lot and sent dozens of bags to charity, I've only just made a dent in it all Blush

alwaysonadiet1 · 04/06/2024 15:32

I've just found a book I've had for a while, Keto soups and stews by Carolyn Ketchum. I'll try a few recipes and report back.

😄😄Oh, trust me, it isn't just refined to that one room! That's just for most of the bigger items! I could open a charity shop of my own with all the clothes I have but don't wear. You see, I blame my sister. She is a shopaholic, and every time she has a sort out (monthly) she asks if I want a look or she will take it to a charity shop. Well of course I want a look!! But then I never get rid of the stuff I don't want! It's just in bags everywhere! Now she is moving house, and I came back with a car full last week of allsorts!! 😵I just can't say no!

alwaysonadiet1 · 04/06/2024 17:01

I have teens too and we've just done their rooms. I've taught them to hoard over the years! At least we now have two tidy roomsSmile

alwaysonadiet1 · 04/06/2024 17:02

Now happy to be decluttering my figure.

Thesoundofmusic23 · 04/06/2024 17:22

Finally signed in on the spreadsheet, it’s slow going right now. Another very small loss this week. Life is getting in the way. Even if this lands up being more of a maintenance time for me I find this group useful so I’m sticking with it. Thanks all. I’m loving some of the recipes too. Just made Mary Berry’s express lasagne with griddled aubergine instead of pasta for supper for the next couple of nights.

BIWI · 04/06/2024 17:36

Any loss is a loss @Thesoundofmusic23! And just look how far you've come since January Flowers

Hello Grin
I'd like to join in please! I've been low carb for a week (done it before and know it works for me) and would benefit from the support which is on offer here.
Do I have to wait for the start of the next "Boot Camp"?
Is there an introductory post I could read so I understand how it works?

PunksVersusBrats · 04/06/2024 17:52

Forgive me @BIWI for I have sinned, I gave in to a substantial bowl of granola, so carbs and sugar in one hit 😞

I can tell that I'm in the run-up to my period because I'm always like this the week beforehand. Today I'm constantly hungry/hangry, I'm strangely resentful that I'm 'not allowed' what I want this week and I have the strongest urge to eat toast until I'm sick. I know it's the hormones talking but arghhhhhhhh! 😖

Hope that the Covid sufferers feel better soon.
