Week 4 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half!

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So this week sees us reaching the end of the first half - so 'only' another 4 to go!

Remember that week 4, along with week 3, can be a tough week from the POV of weight loss, so if things look like they're slowing down/stopping, despite your best efforts, don't be downhearted. We see this every Bootcamp, without fail! Just KOKO (and make sure you're following the rules, of course), and things will get going again.

We took advantage of the lovely weather yesterday to have our first barbecue of the year. Can't believe we had to wait until June! But I love a barbecue as it's so easy from a low carb perspective. On the menu this time we had:

  • halloumi in lemon, garlic and coriander dressing
  • home-made beef burgers (just beef mince, with some added olive oil and salt/pepper/mixed herbs), with fried onions and plastic cheese (It's got to be plastic cheese!) DH/DC had their in buns, I had mine 'naked'.
  • chicken breast fillets, on skewers, which had been marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and fresh oregano
  • sausages
  • aubergine, served with FFGY into which I'd added the zest of a mandarin, and a little bit of its juice
And to go with this I'd made coleslaw, a green salad and (for the rest of the family) potato salad.

Loads left, so I know what I'm having for lunch!

Sadly the weather doesn't look like it's going to be anything like as nice for the rest of the week Sad
However, I hope you all have a good week. @MissBeck I haven't seen either of those books before, so looking forward to hearing your review!

I agree that this WOE forces me to face my food choices. Cake, bread and rice will come back into my diet but I'm hoping that I will be able to enjoy them for the treat that they are, rather than the norm.

Anyway, today's random creation when I'd failed to plan any lunch:

Little frozen prawns (fried to defrost with in splash of rice wine and soy sauce) and then mixed with mayonnaise and sriracha sauce. Eaten on avocados that were about to turn. Quite decent, took 5 mins and used stuff I had in, so I'd make it again. Excuse the presentation, never my strong point 😳

@PunksVersusBrats Actually Punks that looks bloody cracking!! I love a prawn cocktail type of thing! Now off to search what the heck sriracha sauce is?? 😂

PunksVersusBrats · 09/06/2024 20:30

It's a chilli sauce that's great for adding an extra kick, is widely available and a little goes a long way. It's best added at the end of cooking. My DH and youngest teen also squirt it on virtually everything 🙄

Sounds nice, conventionally I add tomato ketchup to mayo for prawn cocktail sauce (plus a but of paprika) but ketchup is full of sugar.

MissBeck · 09/06/2024 21:15

Ooh no. if it's hot, no good for me. I'm a right wuss. 😂

@EasilyDefined yeah, that's what I used to do as well. I could eat the sauce alone! But alas, another thing up the swanny! 😂

BIWI · 09/06/2024 21:42

You could use Heinz no added sugar ketchup though! 5.4g carbs per 100g, so 0.8g in a tablespoon.

Yeah, that would work! The ingredients aren't really ultra processed, and it would be something I would only have occasionally so why not! 😋

EasilyDefined · 09/06/2024 21:59

Has it got sweeteners in @BIWI ? I must admit I always stick to Heinz normal ketchup because that’s DD’s favourite and the rest of us hardly use it.

I had a look at my peanut butters earlier, I am using up a tub of the Meribel one from Lidl and have just bought Pip and Nut to replace it (it was cheap in Costco) and that has 11.9g of carbs/100g.

I have just ordered the Sriusly Low carb breads. I hadn’t realised they dit other things as well, so slipped a few extra bits into the basket. I will have to make space in the freezer.

The strawberry glut has started. I have just blitzed a load of them with an equal quantity of FFGY which will be nice but I won’t eat too much at once.

And I am enjoying a can of Aqua Lbre Blood Orange and Mango flavour, has anyone else tried these? Sparkling water with a smidge of fruit juice, no sugar, no sweetener, negligible carbs and very tasty.

BIWI · 09/06/2024 22:01

Yes, it uses sucralose:

  • Tomatoes (200g per 100g Tomato Ketchup), Spirit Vinegar, Lemon Juice from Concentrate, Potassium Chloride, Acid (Malic Acid), Citrus Fibre, Spice and Herb Extracts (contain Celery), Sweetener (Sucralose)
... but as it's the last ingredient, it's probably very little

Morning campers! Hope the weigh ins are all good. I’m down another pound so 151lbs - it is feeling slow so think I need to be ultra careful and ensure zero digressions and not have any of DD1’s chocolate covered strawberries that she made yesterday. I may have had 3 yesterday. They were bloody lovely. KOKO

MissBeck · 10/06/2024 07:16

Morning,
Quick check in. Weight:151.45lbs so a loss of 0.4llbs 😂

Lougle · 10/06/2024 08:15

Morning! I'm 147.71 today, so down 0.9lb but a couple of days ago I was 147.1 and my IBD is causing difficulties, so I'm retaining. So I think it's still progress.

UnOeufIsEnough · 10/06/2024 08:19

5lb on for me! I know it's mostly water retention from the flight/heat as I definitely didn't eat enough calories to gain 5lb.

Just going to KOKO with lots of water this week!

Looking forward to hearing about lovely losses to keep me motivated 🥰

STS which I'm not really surprised by - way too much wine watching Soccer Aid with DD yesterday, not even the bouncing at Day Fever on Saturday can counteract that! Going to have a super strict week, not too busy and then out Friday and Saturday!!! Hoping for good weather to a) counteract the blues and chances of fuckits and b) so I can tidy the outside once the roof work is finished today!!!!!
