Week 4 - May '24 Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the first half!

BIWI · 03/06/2024 07:03

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So this week sees us reaching the end of the first half - so 'only' another 4 to go!

Remember that week 4, along with week 3, can be a tough week from the POV of weight loss, so if things look like they're slowing down/stopping, despite your best efforts, don't be downhearted. We see this every Bootcamp, without fail! Just KOKO (and make sure you're following the rules, of course), and things will get going again.

We took advantage of the lovely weather yesterday to have our first barbecue of the year. Can't believe we had to wait until June! But I love a barbecue as it's so easy from a low carb perspective. On the menu this time we had:

  • halloumi in lemon, garlic and coriander dressing
  • home-made beef burgers (just beef mince, with some added olive oil and salt/pepper/mixed herbs), with fried onions and plastic cheese (It's got to be plastic cheese!) DH/DC had their in buns, I had mine 'naked'.
  • chicken breast fillets, on skewers, which had been marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and fresh oregano
  • sausages
  • aubergine, served with FFGY into which I'd added the zest of a mandarin, and a little bit of its juice
And to go with this I'd made coleslaw, a green salad and (for the rest of the family) potato salad.

Loads left, so I know what I'm having for lunch!

Sadly the weather doesn't look like it's going to be anything like as nice for the rest of the week Sad
However, I hope you all have a good week. @MissBeck I haven't seen either of those books before, so looking forward to hearing your review!

@PunksVersusBrats classic example of self-sabotage!

Make sure you have a really strict next few days - plenty of water and fat and, if you can, increase your exercise.

Thank you, will do 😊

lastchancesalmon · 04/06/2024 18:06

What can I do with leftover burgers? I'm not a fan of the wrapping in iceberg leaves thing. Any ideas? TIA

Lougle · 04/06/2024 18:07

@PunksVersusBrats I hope the granola is gentle on you.

I have been silly and I've been daily weighing. 148.6 lbs for 3 days in a row. I know it will shift in one direction or the other.

PunksVersusBrats · 04/06/2024 18:11

Thanks @BIWI, I'm my own worst enemy. Right, walking to and from work for the rest of the week and back on the double cream.

Eat it with a knife and fork?!

Daily weighing is only silly if you find it difficult to cope with slow/no losses (or gains). But for many, it keeps us on focused. I know my resolve is slipping when I stop doing it!

Rant time! Sorry peeps.
Just been out to deliver Avon orders and 3 of my customers said they'd be home after 6pm. It's pissing down here and the same 3 customers were NOT home when I knocked, so I'm stood at their doors, getting drenched like a right tit!! I'm fecking soaked and not happy. 😠Rant over.

@NigellaAwesome I've ran out of chicken to make it! 😪

@nozbottheblue Hiya! 👋

Oh @PunksVersusBrats 🙄Got to admit, sooo tempted to do a rhubarb crumble. Can't stop thinking about it!

@Lougle I weigh daily, and have a right hissy fit at my Wii Fit if it goes up. 😂But kind of used to the yo-yo affect now so just get on with it. I feel heavy today, so I know it will have gone up by 9pm weigh in. 😃

BIWI · 04/06/2024 19:58

@MissBeck why are you weighing at 9pm?! All you're doing is weighing you plus everything you've eaten/drunk today!

You should weigh first thing in the morning, naked, and after you've been to the loo.

It makes no difference. It's still a 24 hour period. 😂When I weigh Sunday night, my weight is still the same when I weigh Monday morning for Bootcamp.

Just on my way home from a dinner out with my work team - kept to non-alcoholic g&t (which surprisingly cost £2 MORE than the alcoholic version - wtf?!) and rather than a main which all came with chips/rice/pasta/potatoes I ordered two starters and a side of mixed greens. Super tasty and I didn’t even feel tempted by everyone’s big servings of chips!

MissBeck · 04/06/2024 21:07

I was intrigued by BIWI's graph, and wondered of my Wii Fit did anything like that, and it does!!

Mine is very manual! A spreadsheet where I add colour to the appropriate cells!

MissBeck · 04/06/2024 21:16

I can't do that BIWI! Me and spreadsheets have history. 😂I'm in awe of whoever did the spreadsheet of fabulousness, with all it's calculations and percentages. Pure genius!

MissBeck · 04/06/2024 21:18

@OpalTiger Well done on resisting the chips!

(Can you not edit posts on a PC?)

@Gingerwarthog Have a look at this photo - this is my weight chart from January, when I was doing Dry January.

See if you can spot when January ends ...

@BIWI thanks - I did dry January this year (and dry March) and it didn't have much impact on my weight, although I wasn't low carbing then. Confident that no wine for a week will sort me out. Also sea swimming again.

Hi all, I’ve been lurking and reading all the posts since the start of this bootcamp having started the a week early. Have decided it’s time to delurk. Hope it’s ok to join in a bit late. I’ve added myself to the bottom of the spread sheet. I am pescatarian. Made a gorgeous low carb fish pie with celeriac topping for dinner tonight. And there’s enough left for tomorrow. Thanks @BIWI for running this and everyone who is contributing,

BIWI · 05/06/2024 07:42

Morning everyone.
Not a great start to the day. opened a new pot of double cream and it was off. to be fair, the date on it was the 4th, but thought it would be okay. Stopped at shop after dropping daughter at school, and they only had Elmlea left. It'll do.

Quick question: When a recipe calls for cream cheese, what do you all use? Philledelphia? Dairylea?

Another question: Is heavy cream the same as double cream? or does it mean extra thick double cream?

Last one: Whipping cream? What's that?

prettybird · 05/06/2024 08:40

I use either Philadelphia or more commonly the Lidl cream cheese equivalent. Make sure not to buy the "light" version.

"Heavy cream" is the American equivalent of double cream.

Whipping cream is just a slightly lower fat version of double cream. It's slightly cheaper and is effectively just double cream with a bit of milk added, so therefore not as good for those of us on Boot Camp Halo

@prettybird briliant. Thanks!

It's lower in fat than double cream, higher in carbs and lower in protein @MissBeck

@BIWI Thanks! Didn't even realise there were so many creams. I tend to panic when I see creams in recipes as I worry it will curdle and spoil the dish, just like my coffee this morning!

Another I've never tried, and wonder about is sour cream?? If it's sour, doesn't that mean it's off?? 😂

prettybird · 05/06/2024 09:50

Sour cream has been cultured so it tastes sour - and iirc, its similar to single cream in its fat content (so not good enough for Boot Camp Grin)
