Week 6 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - putting this weekend firmly behind us!

Morning all.

It seems that this Jubilee weekend has been more than a challenge for many of us. But it's over now! So let's all climb quickly back onto the LC wagon.

As ever, here's the link to the spreadsheet:

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dopd9eo5zjJusx8VG1EmuO3YFxPPjEIR2qu-99L_W9g/edit#gid=1892381976

We have three weeks left, so still plenty of time. Certainly to undo the damage of the last few days!

If you have been struggling, or have cheated, why not go back to strict Bootcamp for a week (or two, or three)? Make sure you really are eating plenty of fat, drinking all the water and getting your carbs mainly from veg and salad.

Good luck to us all Flowers

bella1426 · 10/06/2022 22:30

Thanks all for the well wishes and my sympathies to anyone else who has it ☹️ despite a general feeling of malaise, an ongoing low grade headache and my last nerve being tested by housebound kids and animals all day I'm not too bad and decided that I wasn't going to be able to binge eat processed carbs my way out of this shitshow.
Good day on the food, am laying off the double cream as I can definitely over consume so only water and black coffee till midday
Then some lettuce wraps with salmon, Avo and mayo
Smoothie with some berries almond milk and avocado for afternoon snack
Dinner was roasted chicken thighs, cauliflower and brocolli with a lush sauce made from coconut cream, peanut butter and red curry paste

Feeling psychologically better about my life choices today. I'm 4 weeks to holidays (with a weekend away next weekend in between) so trying to give myself a good boost now with 18:6 IF and easing off the cream and cheese a bit

APerfectlyGoodName · 10/06/2022 23:46

I had a big (late) breakfast, then out of the house all afternoon and rubbish dinner.
B. Half creamy coffee, 3 egg spinach feta.
L, 2 chicken gougons (from DS in McDonald's Blush)
D, Chicken & coleslaw, green beans.

I took the DC to cinema from school (via McDonald's), then bought a cooked chicken on way home for tea. It was MILES overcooked.
I think I'll just draw a line under it, but I'll try for something better this weekend.

Checking in this morning.

After a poor week last week, and weighing back at my start weight on Monday Shock, I've been back on the wagon since Monday and pleased to say that I've shifted the 4lb and back to my previous plateau of 13st 12 as of this morning.

It's a lesson to myself about moving on from poor choices or difficult situations rather than letting it spiral out of control. I'd be delighted to see 13st 11 on Monday. That would give me to the end of bootcamp to aim for 13st 7 which was my target: a total loss of 10lb. Optimistic but not impossible.

Sorry to all feeling unwell and holed up. Lack of routine and boredom really tests my resolve so I really sympathise.

venusandmars · 11/06/2022 10:35

@Lougle re the potatoes: I think it depends on the type - small waxy varieties with the skin on are going to leach out less starch than peeld and chopped floury types. If you boil a small waxy potato the cooking water remains clear; if you peel and chop a floury potato such as King Edward or Maris Piper, the cooking water will be quite cloudy (with starch).

I'm still feeling pretty rough and had a bad night. I'd taken the maximum amount of painkillers but still had a terribly sore throat and headache, and a wheezy cough. The only 'soothers' I could find are Stepsils or Benylin. The Benylin in particular is mostly sucrose and syrup. I can go with eating carbs if I need them in food, but I cannot bear the sweetness of the cough mixture I used to love it
Also so many decongestants are 'non-drowsy' (plus dh bought me painkillers that include caffeine). They're the exact opposite of what I want. I want something to make me drowsy so I sleep through the hacking cough.

Baystard · 11/06/2022 10:55

@venusandmars you can buy night nurse in capsules which is drowsy-making and good for cough but not syrupy/sugary.

venusandmars · 11/06/2022 11:36

Thanks @Baystard dh has been dispatched to get some. I'm sure I'll feel a lot better if I get a good sleep tonight.

BIWI · 11/06/2022 11:48

Sorry you're feeling so rough @venusandmars

When I had covid, at the beginning of March, it was the sore throat that was the killer. Painkillers just didn't seem to do anything. Hopefully some Night Nurse will do the trick for you.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 11/06/2022 12:38

For those with sore throats, I find gargling with soluble paracetamol before swallowing it helps

We are planning a takeaway tonight, just wondering if anyone has any good ideas of what to get? Usually get indian but fancy a change. I think think thai food can have a lot of sugar added? Maybe just berger without bun

Was also wondering if anyone has ever made a fathead pizza in a pizza oven. DH is going to make himself a pizza tomorrow evening in oven and I was just wondering if that would work for me?

comfortablyfrumpy · 11/06/2022 13:04

Hope you are feeling better @venusandmars .

Thank you lovely people, but what does NSV mean?

Just had brunch - big boy mushrooms and scrambled eggs - Been busy doing stuff all morning but wasn't hungry so didbt bother with breakfast. My appetite really has shrunk since I started LC.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend .

comfortablyfrumpy · 11/06/2022 13:06

... and get well soon @bella1426 and anyone else feeling poorly.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 11/06/2022 13:37

I think it's non-scale victory @comfortablyfrumpy

bella1426 · 11/06/2022 17:53

Hey everyone am out of isolation so managed a walk with the dog...good to escape!! Tired but overall well, still another 3 days before all kids are cleared so we're not out of the woods yet 🙈

Fasted till 12 today with black coffee and then for brunch had eggs, bacon, spinach and mayo
Some creamy coffees and half a pack of chicken during the afternoon
Dinner same as yesterday as had some satay sauce left which I'm having with roasted chicken thighs cauliflower and brocolli.

bella1426 · 11/06/2022 17:58

@glamourousindierockandroll I could have written your post! Am back at starting weight through navigating my way through various child illness these last few weeks and a few Ill advised alcohol choices ☹️ but need to remind myself not to self sabotage totally now, holiday in a month and even just a few lbs off will make a difference to how I feel in the holiday clothes and swimwear.

glamourousindierockandroll · 11/06/2022 18:04

@bella1426 you really can do it. I really thought i'd screwed myself over but it is mainly water weight in reality, and if you get back chugging and following bootcamp, I bet you'll find that your gain disappears quite quickly. I'm a daily weigher and it helped me to see it coming off fairly rapidly once I got back on the wagon.

Lougle · 11/06/2022 18:54

Well today I've been victorious, I think.

Weighed this morning and lowest weight so far. 142lbs, 64.4kg, so 11.3lbs lost so far since bootcamp began.

I went to an agricultural show today with a friend. I politely refused the hot dog that I was offered when we arrived. Later, I politely refused the ice cream that I was offered.

We went for lunch and I asked for them to leave off the potatoes and have a side salad instead. I didn't eat the carrots, either. I declined the pudding.

B - yoghurt, double cream, raspberries
L - field mushroom and goats cheese salad. Fillet steak with peppercorn sauce, broccoli, salad.
D - Probably skip.

Need to catch up on my water. 3 bottles so far.

BIWI · 11/06/2022 19:39

Great going @Lougle! Flowers

Hi all, hope everyone had a good day

L: shakshuka - shallots, tomatoes, peppers, spinach 2 eggs with avo and feta. Small bowl of Greek yoghurt
D: 2 hamburgers with cheese, had some leftover med veg from last night
larger bowl of strawberries and cream
all my water drank too

FinallyHere · 11/06/2022 21:02

Checking in, gratters to everyone doing well, sympathies with anyone like @venusandmars still struggling.

I'm doing OK here, had s catch up lunch with two dear friends and had a lovely time. Food was easy, we all waved away the bread to start, had mussels with broccoli instead of chips and really enjoyed it. Coffee, not even tempted by the amazing desserts produced by the pastry chef Co-owner.

Felt really good to be the sort of person who waved away the bread.

venusandmars · 11/06/2022 21:11

So far the worst thing about covid is that dh has been let loose to do the shopping. I'm feeling a bit sicky but thought I could manage some fish and beans (I knew there were broad beans in the veg box). dh interpreted this as fish fingers and Heinz beans Confused Not only that but he'd obviously been shopping without his glasses on so the beans he bought were THESE

He's trying to say it is his interpretation of surf and turf Smile

He also bought some kind of awful chicken kiev, which isn't an actual piece of chicken but some kind of mechanically recovered, chopped and shaped stuff. The ingredients list has chicken at 51% of the total - how on earth do you make a chicken kiev where 49% is not chicken??

I smiled sweetly, and thanked him and said I might have it tomorrow, but that I'd prefer an omelette at the moment.

BIWI · 11/06/2022 21:20

Oh dear @venusandmars Grin

Lougle · 12/06/2022 08:38

@venusandmars DH just said to me that he'd had a cooked breakfast yesterday, and didn't want anything carby at lunch, so he just had a banana 🤣🤣 I broke it to him that it's Carby McCarb-face.

Today I'm down to 141.4lbs (64.1kg). I'm just putting that out there in case I'm up for weigh day tomorrow!!

ditavonteesed · 12/06/2022 09:43

Hope the Covidy folks are feeling a bit better this morning.

@venusandmars my dh used to do that stuff but he's actually quite well trained now and checks the carb content of everything.

Blimey I'm rough this morning, self inflicted rough joint 50th party for a couple of close friends. I took an entire big bag of low carb food so I had plenty of choice to pick from and people has also brought loads of stuff I could have so I did really well, drank gin and slimline tonic (rather too much). Was actually sick this morning which is ridiculous at 50th party's considering my dd was out clubbing for her girlfriends 18th and is clearly better at self control than me. But anyway laughed so much and had so much fun, was definitely needed.

Weight going back in the right direction which I'm very happy with 4lbs down from the highest I was this week. Think I'll be having a long fast today as the thought of eating ever again is not good. Also going to have to give the gym a miss I think, I haven't even took the dogs out, dh gone without me which I don't think has ever happened before.

comfortablyfrumpy · 12/06/2022 10:28

Thanks for the NSV clarification @IveNeverTriedThisBefore - I was running out of guesses... Not Suitably Vegetarian, Now Seriously Voluptuous... Grin

Did a sneaky weigh this morning and slightly up on last week but hoping it will fall away again by tomorrow !

Healthy vibes for those feeling under the weather, hope you feel better soon.

BIWI · 12/06/2022 11:33

Oh @ditavonteesed Grin. Get something a bit carby inside you and you will feel better - a slice of wholemeal toast with some salty peanut butter (when you can face it Wink)
