Week 6 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - putting this weekend firmly behind us!

Morning all.

It seems that this Jubilee weekend has been more than a challenge for many of us. But it's over now! So let's all climb quickly back onto the LC wagon.

As ever, here's the link to the spreadsheet:

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dopd9eo5zjJusx8VG1EmuO3YFxPPjEIR2qu-99L_W9g/edit#gid=1892381976

We have three weeks left, so still plenty of time. Certainly to undo the damage of the last few days!

If you have been struggling, or have cheated, why not go back to strict Bootcamp for a week (or two, or three)? Make sure you really are eating plenty of fat, drinking all the water and getting your carbs mainly from veg and salad.

Good luck to us all Flowers

Thanks @BIWI
Good luck all.

All the water and KOKO

comfortablyfrumpy · 06/06/2022 09:00

To my surprise, I'm 1.5lbs down this week so 15.5lbs since Easter. I had a sneaky gin and a couple of glasses of wine over the weekend, and I don't think I did as much walking around as I usually do - but maybe I was imagining that.

I'm now well on my way to my next stone. I do need to focus on drinking more (water) though, I really struggle with that.

Good luck with weigh-ins everyone :)

Newlease · 06/06/2022 09:29

Just finished reading the week 5 thread, I am glad I am not the only one! Surprisingly though, I only ate food that is not LC out of necessity and didn’t reach for any desserts. I used to hunt for M&Ms 2kg bag sale and eat loads in a day. I am glad my days of eating endless chocolates are gone :)
let’s get back to strict Bootcamp, KOKO everyone :)

Baystard · 06/06/2022 09:46

Thanks for the new thread @BIWI and good advice - I'm planning a stricter BC for at least the next week as if I can get through a whole weekend on the wagon it'll give my confidence a boost.

What I learnt over the weekend is that none of the carby foods I ate lived up to expectation. I ate them imagining it'd feel good but it was really a huge anti climax. I also realise that I ate them mainly because I'd had alcohol, but it didn't really make me feel as good as I'd expected either.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 06/06/2022 10:06

Hello all. I have gone up half a pound to 10st 10.5lbs. I will update spreadsheet tomorrow when I'm in office as can't on phone for some reason.

I am pretty disappointed as I had stayed the same last week. I have stuck to strict bootcamp during the week and bootcamp light at weekend, but even then that just means a few strawberries/ about 5 nuts/ 2 sqs of 90% choc. I have drank 4L of water each day. I may have over eaten on Fri evening but reined it in over weekend.

I feel a bit fed up. I've done so many diets, I get to around this weight and then get stuck. I am sticking to it? I have been trying to lose weight now for almost a year and I feel like no matter what approach I try I can't ever get down to within 'normal' BMI. I really feel down heartened.

bella1426 · 06/06/2022 10:46

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore I'm the same, really struggle to get below the 10st but when I do I feel so much better in my clothes etc. it's a real sticking weight for me!! Today am 144lbs which is the same as last week. Raging as I had done down 2lbs during the week and gained it back again 🙄 onto strict boot camp this week and have also decided it's time to go back to zero booze. I did a 6 month stint recently and the last month it's started to creep back in. Proved to myself once again "one glass of wine" is never just that and while I haven't exactly gone on the lash the few drinks here and there have been enough to derail my sleep, diet and general feeling of freshness so sober girl summer here we go :)

Todays plan
B - coffee with cream
L - tuna and feta salad
D - chicken breast flattened and used as a pizza base with chilli pesto, mozarella and chorizo topping, served with green salad

Am also going to attempt to turn my dog walks into jogs and get my over energetic golden retriever worn out and a bit more exercise for me

Back on the horse we go, KOKO

BIWI · 06/06/2022 10:53

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore but according to your post in week one, you started at 11st 5lbs - so you've lost a stone! That's pretty good going, surely?

OP posts:
Ollieharriet · 06/06/2022 11:25

Another 2lbs so have lost a stone in 5 weeks. I'm happy with that! Had a good week until Saturday when I had 3 red wines. Really enjoyed them but did feel the effects on Sunday and ended up having a tortilla wrap with fajitas instead of lettuce 😵‍💫 it could have been worse though! Didn't get a walk in either of those days so hopefully back on track today. It was a challenging weekend for us all but let's keep going 😀

TheRealShedSadie · 06/06/2022 11:35

I’m a 10 stone sticky weight too bella and IveNeverTried and have wobbled up to 10st 2lb after bank holiday wine, gin, choc and emergency toast!

Am back on wagon this week (and putting seatbelt on).

averywittyusername · 06/06/2022 11:57

I too am here with a vengeance. Tottered up a pound or so after a shocking couple of days. I'm getting back to basics, we only have 3 weeks left of bootcamp proper so I want to take advantage of this support!

On another note, my jeans are LOOSE. So loose, they look really bad. I'm delighted ☺️

Lougle · 06/06/2022 12:23

Well done everyone! Even those of who have STS or gone up are still posting so still KOKO.

I'll try sticking to water, although I had made the switch to almond milk so thought that would be ok for my tea.

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 06/06/2022 12:29

Hi @BIWI I started at 11st 5lbs and am now 10st 10.5lbs so total loss of 8.5lbs I think?

I weighed 11st 5lbs day after coming home from holiday. I think this was artificially high after travelling the day before. I feel like if I had just gone back to my normal eating I prob would've been back to 11st after a week regardless of diet.

I have been going between 10st 10lbs and 11st now for nearly a year. Have been to GP cos I was convinced my hormones must've been off cos I was religiously following a diet plan. GP said all was normal but that I really needed to lose my stomach weight as it was dangerous and BMI too high. He told me to just go to the gym 🙄

I'm just getting so tired of the mental yo-yoing as much as the physical. I get really hopeful when I start, thinking this time I'm going to do it. Lose 2/3 lbs, get excited despite knowing this is what usually happens, then get so disappointed when that's as far as it goes. It is really getting me down now. I have tried so hard over almost a year now and I'm not far off where I started. In the past, I used to think that I was heavy, but once I got my headspace into dieting I would lose the weight and I'd be ok. But I have been trying very hard now since August, and feel totally hopeless. Feel as if I am bound to be this weight forever no matter how hard I try and I can't explain how bad that is making me feel

Lougle · 06/06/2022 12:37

Would it help to post your last few days of food, @IveNeverTriedThisBefore ? People might be able to see something that could help? I'm sorry you're feeling so low about it.

Baystard · 06/06/2022 13:28

Gosh, it's been a difficult weekend for so many. I now imagine @BIWI at the door of an executive coach🚍 wagon ticking us off on her clipboard as we get back on 😁

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore that sounds very demoralising. Can you tell us exactly what you eat on a typical day to see if we have any ideas?

I changed my mind about omelette for lunch but had a smoked mackerel fillet instead and now grazing on small cubes of cheese until I feel full. @Lougle I'm also trying to drink the water without counting the coffee and tea, I've developed a taste for fizzy water which helps a bit.

@averywittyusername great NSV!

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 06/06/2022 13:50

I have been doing IF from dinner at 6pm until 10.45am when I have a creamy coffee.

Then lunch has been either slow cooker pork from recipes thread or salmon with veg. Always with butter/ lots of dressing
Usually have another creamy coffee after lunch

Dinner last week was homemade butter chicken with veg/ chicken skewers with greek yog, cauliflower rice/ aubergine bake/ fritatta with cheese. Always make sure to have 1/2 plate with veg and that there is enough fat in meal

Had steak on Friday with garlic butter, cauliflower cheese, asparagus and choc pot. Did feel v full after but made sure I didn't overeat for rest of weekend

Always drink 3.5L most days it's 4

Has anyone ever fasted longer than the 16hrs... anyone done a day a week or something like that?

APerfectlyGoodName · 06/06/2022 13:53

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore I think you're being very hard on yourself. Whatever way you look at it 8lbs of weight loss in 5weeks is excellent. I also started on, what felt to me, an artificially high level. But there was no guarantee that number was going to disappear by itself. I've wavered between 2 lbs in a week, but never 5lbs.
Gains and STS are a bit of a drag but aside from the scales, how are you feeling? Have you any Non Scale Victories, to help you regain your mojo?

@bella1426 😂😂Forrest Gump couldn't tire out that dog. But he is so beautiful!

I'm recording a 1lb loss, which I'm thrilled with. I saw 163, 4 & 5 on the scales this week, but 164 today (ahem, -- after the loo 😳). This was my final weight after BC in 2019. At 5ft 8,_this is the top of a healthy BMI for me.
I like this WoE though. I like the steady energy, so I'll definitely KOKO & 160 is my next target.
Thanks BIWI for the new thread.
Best wishes for the week ahead 💪

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 06/06/2022 13:54

Today was shakshuka - shallots, pepper, tomatoes, eggs, feta and avo
Lunch - salmon mayo with leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, spring onion and avo with pesto dressing (homemade)
Going to have haloumi and veg bake for dinner

My waist measurement has been the same since week 2
I dont have any tight clothes as I threw them all put earlier in year as I was sick of looking at them and never fitting anytime I tried

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 06/06/2022 13:57

Sorry, I feel like I sound so moany, I'm sorry about that. Usually it's DH who has to listen to it! I don't mean to be so negative. But I am a bit fed up of losing and regaining the same 4lbs over a year. Would appreciate any ideas on how to kick-start it again. Thanks to all who have read so far and well done to all those who've lost this week, its not easy so well done!

Baystard · 06/06/2022 14:28

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore I practice intermittent fasting, minimum 16 hours ("16:8") every day but a couple of times a week I do 20:4 or OMAD (one meal a day). I try to do a 48 hour fast once a month but I've had a few months off.

How would you feel about dropping the creamy coffee you break your fast with and just wait and have lunch. Maybe have the coffee once a week as a treat. You could also build up to do a longer fast (20-24 hrs) once or twice a week and see how that goes?
Do you clean fast outside your eating window, I.e. only black or green tea/coffee/water and steer clear of artificially sweetened or flavoured things?

BIWI · 06/06/2022 16:22

Sorry @IveNeverTriedThisBefore I mis-read your previous post.

However.

You have lost 8.5lbs. In just 5 weeks. That is really good!

And so I'm a bit Hmm when you talk about wanting to 'kickstart' things again.

You need to take a step back and get some perspective, I think! This WOE is working for you. You've had a period when you have STS, which is totally normal. It happens to us all. As we always say, weight loss isn't linear.

Also, it sounds like you have become a bit of a yoyo dieter - switching from one thing to another, because you're so keen to make it work (we all understand that one!), so I suspect you probably just need to give your body a chance to get used to this WOE.

It's only week 6. And you're doing really well!. Your meals look fine to me, so if I were you I'd just try to relax, enjoy the food you are cooking/eating and KOKO.

Actually, @IveNeverTriedThisBefore, didn't you also say you couldn't start until 9 May? If so, that's 8.5lbs in 4 weeks, not 5.

I got lucky at our Jubilee tea party as there were chicken legs and salad with yogurt dressing. Along with olives and a couple of strawberries it was great for low carbing. I did have a glass of Pimms but it was for the Queen so that's okay, right?! Wink

SummerSazz · 06/06/2022 17:34

I'm up 3, after my low returning from holiday which is annoying. Pretty sure it will just be temporary so back on it today. Especially with the water!

Lougle · 06/06/2022 17:41

I think we've all got to get our heads around (or maybe it's just me!) that this is meant to be a WOE, so starvation, radical exclusions, etc., just won't work. There is no point in adopting a WOE that means that a single transgression undoes 5 weeks worth of effort - how miserable would that be?

I'm trying really hard to make sure that I am creating habits for life, rather than a big whoosh of effort for 8 weeks and then off the wagon. So last night, I fancied a pudding and I had my raspberries and cream, ignoring the voice that said 'but it's weigh day tomorrow!!'

Bananajam · 06/06/2022 18:04

Checking in 🥳
STS this week but onwards and upwards! I'm still motivated as I know it works, ignoring jubilee celebrations and learning to say no to wine will help!
