Week 6 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - putting this weekend firmly behind us!

Morning all.

It seems that this Jubilee weekend has been more than a challenge for many of us. But it's over now! So let's all climb quickly back onto the LC wagon.

As ever, here's the link to the spreadsheet:

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dopd9eo5zjJusx8VG1EmuO3YFxPPjEIR2qu-99L_W9g/edit#gid=1892381976

We have three weeks left, so still plenty of time. Certainly to undo the damage of the last few days!

If you have been struggling, or have cheated, why not go back to strict Bootcamp for a week (or two, or three)? Make sure you really are eating plenty of fat, drinking all the water and getting your carbs mainly from veg and salad.

Good luck to us all Flowers

@APerfectlyGoodName have way too many cookbooks here too. I have a problem 🙈

APerfectlyGoodName · 08/06/2022 23:08

The library really is fantastic NeverTried. They are happy to order any books in for you. You can buy them after if you're still keen.
Have you used BorrowBox? Again a free library resource for books - written and audio. I love it.

We have BorrowBox in Ireland but I'm sure same available in UK or US. It is just great. Online books in print or audio - you can read or your phone or tablet. I'm listening to a great mystery at the moment. Set in Sweden, Anders DeLaMotte.

Well I think I'm bobbing along on the sea of weight loss. I was down to 64.5kg yesterday and now up to 65.2kg again today! I'm quite sanguine about it now though.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 09/06/2022 12:48

A pack of butter down , so lost my weekend weight !
koko x

APerfectlyGoodName · 09/06/2022 13:51

I prefer weighing in lbs @Lougle

I think 1Kg is 2.2lbs. .7kg just sounds so small compared to 1.5lb.

3kg sounds small, wheras it a half stone! Mentally I do speed and distance in metres. cooking in metric, but height & weight in lbs and inches

FinallyHere · 09/06/2022 15:41

0.7kg just sounds so small compared to 1.5lb

How I agree.

Yesterday, when the gym scales showed me a 600g loss over 16 days, I had to speak to myself quite sternly to stop my lower lip trembling at the start of a colossal tantrum.

I'm a grown up, really 😄

Well day one went - mixed. I’m doing ‘lite’ version

B - skyr yoghurt
L - Caesar salad no croutons, strawberries & blueberries

then I’m off to a gym class soon and forgot I’m doing LC and mindlessly grabbed a piece of sourdough to tide me over 🙈 I’m going to skip dinner now I think to try to make up for it

IveNeverTriedThisBefore · 09/06/2022 18:47

Hello all!

Did IF again today so creamy coffee at 10.45
L: pork, coconut and ginger that I had in freezer with shoogled broccoli
D: quick prawn curry (from recipes thread) with spinach and cauliflower rice
Drank all my water
Have had a lot of curry I realise this week!

Baystard · 09/06/2022 19:09

Having sidestepped dinner yesterday I still felt bloated and urgh this morning and my appetite today was pretty non existent. Got all the water though! Had a good dinner because my head said I ought to and now waiting to learn if my body disagrees! Have since learnt that someone I spent time with at the weekend has a very nasty bug so perhaps I've got a mild version.

B- black coffee
L- water water water
D- 4-egg omelette, thin piece of beef-dripping-fried high fibre seed bread.

@Llamasally 👋 welcome and congratulations on day one! You don't need to skip dinner, it's important that you eat enough and punishing yourself by undereating isn't necessary or fun - have a healthy tasty supper with lots of healthy fat (your menu today otherwise looks very low in fat unless you're like me and have half a tonne of parmesan dressed with a bit of lettuce and call it ceasar). It's important to be well nourished and this WOE is low carb, but moderate protein and high fat ☺️

Lougle · 09/06/2022 19:55

Today has been exhausting. Non-stop.

B - Greek yoghurt, double cream, raspberries
L - tuna mayo salad
D - 2 egg omelette (bacon and cheese).

Fluids: 2 cups of tea. 5x750ml water.

bella1426 · 09/06/2022 21:41

It's all gone to crap today. Whole family down with covid, trying to look after everyone, attend meetings, answer emails and oh yeah actually be sick myself not that that bit is important 🙄 my mam dropped in some groceries with a few goodies included and the lure of the chocolate chip cookies were too much of a short term comfort/energy fix to resist....stupid really as eating crap makes me feel crap and it's not what I need right now but the covid taste buds slightly have the ick for anything not involving carbs and sugar...sigh...draw a line and try again tomorrow

comfortablyfrumpy · 09/06/2022 22:23

I was feeling a little slimmer this morning so measured my waist 5" off since Easter. I will be able to get into more if my old clothes soon :)
Today
B: Greek yog with chia seeds and a spoon of oats
L: Salad with crumbled strong cheddar
D: Tuna steak, roast cauli and lotsa veg.
Better on the water front.
Just snuck a mini bar of 85% choc for a treat.

Lougle · 09/06/2022 22:26

@bella1426 I think anything goes when you have Covid - get well soon and ignore the guilt.
@comfortablyfrumpy congratulations! That's a massive victory.

@IveNeverTriedThisBefore

ditavonteesed · 10/06/2022 05:55

@comfortablyfrumpy wow that is an amazing victory.
@bella1426 sending healing vibes.
@Mercedesbenz2022 yay.
Super strict last couple of days and going well, I feel like the tummy bloat is going down already.

Rshard · 10/06/2022 08:30

Another one shuffling back in, Covid finally found me, completely knocking me off my feet. Sorry to read that you house is suffering too @bella1426 . Hope you all feel better soon.

I have sought solace in carbs, toast in particular as I have lost my taste/smell and lots of foos haven’t appealed.

I'm actually a pound down from my last weigh in and am now back to it.

Glad that everyone is still koko. 5 inches from your waist is incredible @comfortablyfrumpy 🤩

welcome @Llamasally

BIWI · 10/06/2022 09:49

@Llamasally why have you started with Light, out of interest?

But will also echo @Baystard - your day doesn't really look like it's particularly Bootcamp-compliant - even ignoring the sourdough!

Sorry to hear that you're poorly @bella1426 and @Rshard - in your circumstances, don't beat yourself up about food. Focus on getting well.

Fantastic progress @comfortablyfrumpy - you'll have to change that name now!

I didn’t want to cut out any fruit at all, hence Lite. Then I can have some berries

venusandmars · 10/06/2022 16:34

@Llamasally who did you not want to cut out fruit? Is it because you particularly enjoy it? Do you crave the sweetness? Do you think there is something unhealthy about NOT eating fruit? You can get every bit of nutrition from a really exciting range of veg (including rhubarb!). You have to be a bit more inventive about getting the full range of colours but red cabbage, aubergine, purple spouting broccoli, purple asparagus, black olives, some varieties of kale...

And skyr yogurt has pretty much no fat. I have 10% fat greek yog and I sometimes add double cream to that.

Bootcamp lite is good, but you'll get into fat-burning mode faster if you you start with the strict version, then add in some berries. Even one week of strict would make a difference.

I'm another one joining the poorly-feeling covid cohort Sad. Had boiled eggs mashed with butter for lunch. Probably added way too much salt to try and make it taste of SOMETHING! I am just grateful that vaccines were developed, can't imagine how wiped out I'd feel otherwise.

Baystard · 10/06/2022 17:25

Commiserations to all those suffering today, hope you're on the mend soon @bella1426 @Rshard and @venusandmars

Great NSV @comfortablyfrumpy🏅

I'm feeling a bit better today and the ravenous appetite has slunk away somewhere too so I'm firmly back on the wagon. Today I'm 6 lb down from Monday so I'm reassured that the weight I put on when I was struggling was mainly water (alot of water!) and i got through it eventually. It wasn't great at the time but I think it was a positive learning experience and I'm hugely thankful to @BIWI and all the LC bootcamp gang as if I'd been going it alone I think I'd have spiralled out of control (from past experience).

B- black coffee
L- fasting as not much appetite
D- 95% pork sausages and veg tray bake (cauliflower, broccoli, onion, tomatoes, asparagus and loads of olive oil). Rhubarb and a whole tub of clotted cream to follow.

BIWI · 10/06/2022 17:29

Sorry to hear you have covid too @venusandmars Sad

Newlease · 10/06/2022 18:29

@venusandmars @bella1426 @Rshard sorry to hear about the covid. I wouldn't worry about the toast/whatever make it bearable for you. get well soon guys x
I am going through a kind of meh stage. Mainly because we were away during the weekend and not had enough food for variety. bored to death of eating eggs in several forms and beef every day. now waiting for the builders to go home, so I can shop and eat something nice. I really want to get on the scale to see how it is, but nervous that I am going to fall off the wagon :) so resisting the urge to get on the scale. Last week I wore the jumpsuit I bought from Joules and it fit perfectly alright now ( tummy was sticking out a bit in it when I bought it). I need to find a form of exercise that I can stick to as well, please recommend
I do weigh in KG as well, somehow my brain can't comprehend in lbs.

happy weekend everyone x

Lougle · 10/06/2022 19:23

DD3 has come down with a D&V bug now. The irony is that when DD2 & DD1 had it, she refused to sleep in her bedroom and slept downstairs, wearing a face mask. Now that she's got it, she wants company and is sitting with us!

B - yoghurt, 1 tablespoon double cream
L - salad - rocket & watercress, baby plum tomatoes, cucumber, olives, brie, vinaigrette.
D - Tuscan chicken (peppers, leeks, tomatoes, spinach, stock, double cream). 2 tsp (25g) clotted cream and 6 raspberries.

2 cups of tea, 5x750ml water.

Game changer for me is buying a kilner jar drinks dispenser as recommended up thread.

Week 6 - May 22 Low Carb Bootcamp - putting this weekend firmly behind us!
Baystard · 10/06/2022 19:24

Love the mint leaves @Lougle, it looks wonderfully refreshing!

Lougle · 10/06/2022 19:37

It tastes mainly of cucumber, tbh! Need to address the balance.

Possibly stupid question - if you cook potatoes in a one-pot meal, do any of the carbs leach out into the meal that would impact it? I figured that as long as I wasn't eating the potatoes it's fine, but then it occurred to me that the starch has carbs, etc.
