Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 4

Oneborneverydecade · 23/08/2021 08:15

Morning and welcome to week 4!

I very much hope that things are going well for you, and that you're into the swing of things low carb by now. This week is mostly about keep on keeping on, drinking all the water and remembering that last week's weight loss stall may still be a factor, as your body continues to adjust to this woe.

As ever, post any questions/issue here and let's see if we can help. I'm looking for low carb and or ntermittent fasting podcast recommendations if anyone has any please.

I'll link the spreadsheet in my next comment.

Hi all.

Shopping day today so stocking up on FLGV, tuna, celeriac. Might treat myself to some Marmite cheese! Also going to pop into health food shop for some psyllium husk to make the rolls

This is a really stupid question but are the keto rolls gluten free?

Oneborneverydecade · 23/08/2021 08:35

Just realised I never actually said thank you for all of your kind words on the other thread. Thank you

I've got a tricky week to navigate. Dinner courtesy of dc tonight (in exchange for looking after dgc) so will just have to eat around whatever is on offer. Wednesday I have a lunchtime business meeting, although I made the booking and I think there are several options on the menu which are suitable. Thursday night dh and I are going out for dinner, and then Friday we're going to a cookery evening held by an Indian chef. That will be the challenging one! I'm aiming to continue 16:8 intermittent fasting and make good choices where I can, and my objective is to stay the same.

B - herbal tea
L - green veg soup, boiled egg
D - whatever dc cooks

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 08:56

Does intermittent fasting work if you drink coffee with almond milk (unsweetened)?

prettybird · 23/08/2021 09:08

@Oneborneverydecade - for future reference, here is how to re-name links:

Paste the link. Put the double [ at the beginning, then the "raw" web address, as in [ [ web address, then a space, then the name that you want to show instead (eg "Spreadsheet of Fabulousness" Wink) and then the closing ]].

[ [ web addressnew name]]

NB: I have had to insert an extra space in the [[ when describing it because otherwise the closing pair of ] made the code think that there was a "new name" and converted the text to a fallacious link Confused

cheeseisthebest · 23/08/2021 09:27

Love the little marmite cheeses!

DaesieMay · 23/08/2021 09:36

Morning everyone. Just 1lb again this week but I've been struggling with constipation so hopefully this might pass and I'll get a bit of a boost. Got some electrolyte drinks as I think I'm not getting enough by adding. Not disheartened at all (which is a surprise) as I'm finding it quite simple... probably as I'm not eating loads and having 200 different items on a three course meal 5 times a day!
Today:
B: low carb sausage, avocado, olives
L: prawn curry and cauli rice
D: probably homemade flaxseed crackers and Roquefort spread. Maybe more olives.

naemates · 23/08/2021 09:49

1.5lb this week which I'll happily take, I'm on jury duty so having to eat what I'm given and avoid water.

I'm expecting it to go up a bit after being taken for drinks and dinner last night Blush White spirits and salad turned into cocktails and curry. It really will be a one off as no one ever buys me dinner and I'm far too frugal cheap to pay for myself

Andi2020 · 23/08/2021 09:52

Well done on losses. I stayed around the same so happy enough
Dh started new job so put back,on some weight so he probably give up now, but that's his choice.
When I'm cooking it will be meat, and veg for dinner.

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 10:01

A pound off but tbh I keep losing and gaining the same pound. I have been absolutely strict apart from alcohol so I'm presuming it's that as I haven't deviated from the plan at all. I can weigh on Thursday and be 2lbs down then by Monday that's gone back on. It's a bit disheartening but as I generally enjoy the woe I'm not too bothered.

Dellabob123 · 23/08/2021 10:34

I’m the same, bouncing the same 1lb around. No change here but I didn’t get to drink much water yesterday it eat veg...no surprises!

BIWI · 23/08/2021 10:47

I have been absolutely strict apart from alcohol

... so not that strict then? Grin

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 10:53

Yes @BIWI I have been very strict. More so than a lot actually. Also plenty on this WOE drink alcohol and lose/maintain. Obviously I can't.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/08/2021 10:54

@Mimosa1 oh that mint sounds lovely - I did manage to kill some this summer (drowned in a forgotten pot in pretty much near permanent shade) so will see if I can find that one.

@KateF I also notice that and try to do it in reverse too!! So if I've gone off plan with food (more on that in a minute ) I try to get an early night / take vitamins / do some exercise / full skincare ASAP to support better food choices the next day.

@MrsKoala snap me too - always worth getting straight back on as soon as you can.

For me that's the difffernece with this woe is that I don't mind the thought of getting back on plan after a slip. And 90% is so much better than none

Smiling at the thought of @prettybird completely wasted - I bet you're very funny!! Amazing not to make up for it with a carb fest well done.

@Bryonyshcmyony yes gluten free and the stuff I've read says yes a small amount (ie not a whole latte!) of unsweetened almond milk is ok for IF.

@venusandmars wow that's a tough week. When I've had similar I usually can get through it / make the right choices but it gets very boring quite quickly as the safe options are usually the same! I think that's why this was great in lockdown as could vary meals loads but is gettting much harder now.

God knows what happened but after sailing through hosting 20+ on Sat and an easy LC day for me, after the overnight visitors had left I had a mini Colin the caterpillar roll Blush which then triggered a massive binge of leftover desserts / cookies / blueberries and then we went out for dinner and I had pressed the 'fuck it' button so had chips and then more chocolate when we got back. It's so extreme and so unlike what everyone else shares on here I've come to accept it's definitely a form of eating disorder that remains from my younger days.

But that was yesterday.

I went to bed early and restarted a diary to try to help positivity / accountability.

Today, I've worked out, drank tonnes of water already, planning on fasting until Caesar salad at lunch then Bolognaise with FLGV dinner. Gonna shower / face routine / moisturise etc and get back on plan.

Not weighed in for obvious reasons.

Kerplunkk · 23/08/2021 11:03

Hi all, well done on losses,
Koko everyone Smile can’t believe we are over halfway already! I am really enjoying this WOE so thank you for the threads & advice!

Sorry I’ve not been around much, really busy weekend and week ahead.
Apart from more water does anyone have an advice for constipation?
I seem to be swinging between that and the other extreme Blush
Im taking electrolytes, eating FLGV.

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 11:04

Yeah I get a lot of constipation as well. No advice (also drinking 3l of water and eating plenty of veg)

pinknsparkly · 23/08/2021 11:10

Thanks for the new thread @Oneborneverydecade!

I weighed in on the last thread, but I've lost 1lb last week.

B: I'm currently drinking a cup of milky tea (made for me by a work colleague and I started drinking it before thinking about it! My plan was to stick to water only until lunch Blush)
L: left over creamy leeks from last night, with a burger and some left over chicken mixed through.
D: mackeral and swoodles (swede noodles) with "all the veggies" pasta sauce

The creamy leeks were delish (as they should be when made with that quantity of cream Shock)

prettybird · 23/08/2021 11:14

@Kerplunkk - it's not a problem I tend to get Wink but I seem to recall that in addition to all the water and a FLGV, making sure to have plenty of fat helps. I'm not sure if it ahem Wink helps "lubricate" things. Shock

I also seem to recall that if it becomes a real problem, then, of all things, eating a load of sugar free Thornton's (iirc) toffee can have a spectacular effect. Also, possibly a bag of sugar free Percy Pigs?? (Never eaten either Grin)

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 11:24

Omg

I bought a bag of werthers on the way back home from Scotland. Not realising they were the sugar free ones
I'm still traumatised from the memory

prettybird · 23/08/2021 11:25

@Bryonyshcmyony : allowing some alcohol is Boot Camp Light, so by definition not super strict Confused

Alcohol might not stop us out of being fat adapted but it will be used by the body as an alternative fuel so that it doesn't need o use our fat reserves for energy.

I know that the alcohol I have over the weekend will be reflected on the scales - so that's why I often only weigh in on a Tuesday Blush

All of us have different tolerances as well, so some might be able to get away with a small amount off-piste (whether that be alcohol or a small piece of cake) and others have less lee way.

Even after reaching target, one of the challenges of this WoE is learning what our own individual tolerance levels are. Smile

I remember ilovecherries stalled for months just the wrong side of 11st, despite the fact that she wasn't drinking any alcohol Shock. I can't remember what she finally did to break the stall. According to Stuntnun sometimes adding more fat in will help - or maybe dairy intake needs to be reduced (except for butter).

Iirc, a stall is only defined as a stall if it's more than 4 (or is it 6?) weeks.

MrsKoala · 23/08/2021 11:27

@prettybird I love flowers and lush foliage in bathrooms - pics please!

I was very constipated on holiday as I just can’t get enough veg. No where did greens where we were and if I asked for side veg I always got a salad - which isn’t the same for me as broccoli or spinach and certainly doesn’t go with rabbit in red wine stew (a Maltese staple). I wonder how anyone there goes to the toilet! It meant I was having fruit at breakfast just to get some fibre. Anyway I’m sure it added to my weight gain as since coming back on Saturday I’ve had lots of veg and been rather a lot (apologies tmi I know) and am now only 1lb up on my previous maintenance weight. Which is 4lb off in 2 days.

Got a few birthdays coming up (my boys and H are all inconsiderately within the next 3 weeks or so) so lots of cake in the house to resist and lots of eating out.

Had a spinach, tomato, pepper and goats cheese 2 egg omelette for breakfast. Going to a large stir fry of greens in olive oil and tuna steak for lunch and roast chicken, swede and flgv for dinner.

Nice to back and read all your updates.

Adds Sugar Free Werthers to the list for "solutions" Wink

Based on the nappies produced by my little one - avocado definitely seems to help this situation so I agree with the suggestion of plenty of fat!!
