Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 2

Morning and welcome to week 2

I'll link to the spreadsheet in a comment below

Fingers crossed everyone's had a great week weight wise and that week 2 brings a break from the rain for most of us!

Please remember when you get on the scales this morning/tomorrow morning, that some people lose weight much quicker than others.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, chances are that you will lose it quicker than if you are closer to your target. Some people will lose a shed load in week one, but then nothing in week two - whereas others will lose more modestly, but consistently, week after week. The only thing that matters is what is happening to you.

If you haven't lost much, please don't be disappointed. Make sure that you are genuinely following the rules - are you drinking enough water? Are you eating high fat? That one glass or wine, or that small piece of cake - they all add up.

And even if you have genuinely followed the rules - if you haven't seen the scales move by much - have you measured?

We are all different, and rates of loss will be different too. Just think about the food that you have been eating, and consider how this WOE compares with low calorie or low fat diets.

Changing to a low carb way of eating as compared to a low fat or low calorie diet is not an easy transition, and it is to be expected that there will be snags along the way. Hopefully the Bootcamp threads will give you the help and guidance that you need - and I hope that when you get on the scales next, your hard work will be rewarded!

(thank you for the motivational words @biwi Smile )

I am 1.4 lbs up!

BUT

I am in the middle of a very confusing house move (in that I’m selling my house, moving into rented and starting a total wreck reno job). And I have massive PMT. so basically I am going to take it that I’m pleased un haven’t put half a stone on!

Also:

My two ‘thin me’ pairs of jeans fit almost acceptably.

My skin looks fab again - low carb suits it.

I need to:

Eat more water
Eat less cheese.

ilovecherries · 09/08/2021 17:49

@bugcat

4lb off this week 🎉 but I have really struggled. I have loads to loose, over 100lbs and it seems so unreachable. Well done all losers.
bugcat, I lost 82 with b/c and have kept it off for 4 years now. 4lbs is a fabulous start. You can do this - in fact, you ARE doing it. What bits are you struggling with?
ilovecherries · 09/08/2021 17:56

Well, my keto itch has arrived bang on time, complete with bring very smelly. I know, really selling myself here.

venusandmars · 09/08/2021 17:57

Well done @Dellabob123 you know the chips would be soggy and damp, and the fish would smell a bit 'old' and might even have a bit of slimy skin on it... Stick with your beautiful, briny, tasty olives and your sweet, nutty almonds!

prettybird · 09/08/2021 18:04

You will get through these initial problems @ilovecherries - you've been there before and you know that this too will pass Smile

pinknsparkly · 09/08/2021 18:07

Thanks @venusandmars - I'd not looked at the carb content of individual nuts. The cashews does surprise me!

And you're right about not viewing it as a diet as such. But while fruit and nuts are off limits, it does feel rather restrictive Wink I'm hoping that BClight will be closer to a way of eating I can keep up long term!

prettybird · 09/08/2021 18:27

@pinknsparkly - yes, Boot Camp Light is more sustainable in the long term but doing the strict first 2 weeks of Boot Camp helps to re-set your habits and hunger signals as your body becomes ketogenically adapted.

Then you see if you can trust yourself to have just a few nuts if you are genuinely hungry and to stop after those few Wink

Personally, I find that I can now intermittently fast easily, even while doing exercise - and can even do the odd extended fast with ease. I find they help break my habit of "habit eating" (tautology Wink)/boredom eating/being "hangry".

Hellooooo,

I missed the first week (idiot me got the wrong day!) but started in Ernest today :)

Eggs for breakfast
Cauliflower cheese soup for lunch
This bad boy for dinner!

Hi everyone - 7lb down this week but approaching a former “set” weight so not expecting as much success this week. I’ve been careful to keep the veg intake up (last time I got lazy and just ate ham and cheese until I felt sick). I’ve been pretty good this week and have been rewarded by much-reduced food cravings…

Dellabob123 · 09/08/2021 20:43

Thanks @venusandmarsSmile
I held out. Came back to the camper and had broccoli and Stilton soup with a cheese muffin for dinner instead.

Also, I think I’ve built up a wheat/gluten intolerance since I started this and I know that if I ordered the fish or the wood fired pizza here I’d enjoy it enormously for the duration and then bloat for days after and look haggard.
Sigh...

Kerplunkk · 09/08/2021 20:57

I’m looking at a US recipe for leek & broccoli soup but it requires cream cheese - is this recommended for BC? Or does anyone have an alternative please?

MuthaHubbard · 09/08/2021 20:58

2.1lbs down for first weigh in here. The novelty of eating cream, butter etc isn't getting old just yet!

I did cave and have a brioche bun and 4 squares of dark chocolate yesterday but back to it today - weekends are usually a full 'off plan' day so pleased I only slipped a little.

Well done all so far - for the losses or just sticking with it/getting back in the saddle

Tomorrow I'm at spin, then likely scrambled eggs for breakfast, cauli cheese soup for lunch and pork steaks with all the veg for tea.

prettybird · 09/08/2021 21:45

@Kerplunkk - cream cheese is absolutely fine Smile. Why would you think it wasn't? Confused

The only time it might be an issue was if your weight was stalling and you were trying to reduce your dairy.

Daveggie1 · 09/08/2021 22:03

I made veggie fajitas tonight using lettuce as the wraps. I’m kicking myself because without thinking I emptied a sachet of fajita seasoning out of the cupboard into the pan and then checked the carb count after, it was definitely higher than I had thought. I will make them again but use spices out of my spice rack next time. Lesson learned!

cheeseisthebest · 09/08/2021 22:48

Well done everyone.
I'm a lb down.
Meet my puppy! (I'm so in love!)

Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 2
Jollyholibobs · 09/08/2021 23:40

Adorable puppy. Hope you have a good night with him/her @cheeseisthebest.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 06:59

That is a gorgeous puppy!! Have you found the puppy survival thread?

I'm possibly going to struggle this week because we're having our bathroom done so I'll be taking kids and puppy on days out and I'm not sure where we'll end up eating. I'll do the best I can with whatever is available. Today is a packed lunch day out, so that should be ok, it's the rest of the week I'm more concerned about.

ditavonteesed · 10/08/2021 07:04

@cheeseisthebest so sweet, name, breed and all other necessities please. My dogs are what has kept me going this last year.
I fell off the wagon big time last week after the meal out but I'm back on it now. This is what I've been doing for the last couple of months, a few days strict then falling off for a couple of days, I have managed to maintain with this and I don't think I fall off as bad as I think but I want to shift that last bit now.

cheeseisthebest · 10/08/2021 07:36

Benji, he's a shitzu and he's just been the best. Makes us all laugh and bond as a family. Love him to bits.

StuntNun · 10/08/2021 07:38

Daveggie1 I serve fajitas or tacos on a bed of shredded lettuce in a bowl and top with cheese and sour cream. It's much easier to eat than with lettuce wraps.

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/08/2021 07:40

That puppy is gorgeous. He looks like a little soot sprite (my neighbour totoro movie)

ouchmyfeet · 10/08/2021 07:47

2.5lbs off for me, which I'm very happy with given that was over 2 very carby weekends.

Going to try to be very strict now for the rest of the week as I'm away on hols next week.

cheeseisthebest · 10/08/2021 07:53

My daughter said he's a daemon cos follows you everywhere!
Any idea how to stop pooing in the same spot in our front room? He doesn't like going outside for the toilet cos the grass is wet! Pampered pooch!

ditavonteesed · 10/08/2021 07:58

@Bryonyshcmyony my Dalmatian is called susuwatari (soot sprite) as I though she looked like she had been attacked by them.

ditavonteesed · 10/08/2021 07:59

@cheeseisthebest you need to make a spray with biological washing liquid and water to totally get rid of the scent.
