Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 2

Morning and welcome to week 2

I'll link to the spreadsheet in a comment below

Fingers crossed everyone's had a great week weight wise and that week 2 brings a break from the rain for most of us!

Please remember when you get on the scales this morning/tomorrow morning, that some people lose weight much quicker than others.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, chances are that you will lose it quicker than if you are closer to your target. Some people will lose a shed load in week one, but then nothing in week two - whereas others will lose more modestly, but consistently, week after week. The only thing that matters is what is happening to you.

If you haven't lost much, please don't be disappointed. Make sure that you are genuinely following the rules - are you drinking enough water? Are you eating high fat? That one glass or wine, or that small piece of cake - they all add up.

And even if you have genuinely followed the rules - if you haven't seen the scales move by much - have you measured?

We are all different, and rates of loss will be different too. Just think about the food that you have been eating, and consider how this WOE compares with low calorie or low fat diets.

Changing to a low carb way of eating as compared to a low fat or low calorie diet is not an easy transition, and it is to be expected that there will be snags along the way. Hopefully the Bootcamp threads will give you the help and guidance that you need - and I hope that when you get on the scales next, your hard work will be rewarded!

(thank you for the motivational words @biwi Smile )

Checking in after a standard day of baby and toddler antics.

B: berries, Greek yog and keto granola
L: leftover sausages, bacon and scrambled egg
D: pork loin steaks in creamy paprika sauce, cauliflower, broccoli and salad.

I’m already hungry though… going to get both kids in the bath and bed and see if I still feel it after that when I will probably need wine anyway

prettybird · 10/08/2021 19:00

@BestIsWest It's 1500mm long and 740mm wide. Shorter than we'd had but nice and deep - and because of its thin walls it's still a comfy bath to soak in. Neither of us are tall though Grin - dh is only 5'7" Wink - and our feet do stick out at the end above the bubbles if we straighten our legs. I've also bought (another £26.50) a luxury bath head cushion - which dh likes (so I might buy another one for those occasions when we share a bath Wink). The bath was more expensive than I'd planned, but with the tight space and the fact that I wanted centre taps, I was restricted for choice. It was from www.bathroomstolove.co.uk (as was most of what we got). The price is not what we paid Wink

I'd liked the idea of a freestanding bath but in the tight space, a back to the wall version more practical but still gives the effect.

We might have been able to squeeze in a 1600mm one (which I had to look into when the order didn't arrive but we made the showroom keep to their throwaway promise to give us the display one if there was a delay ) using the space that the dookets use but it would have looked funny with the build out for the loo cistern (although we'd have worked something out) and the 1600mm ones were even more expensive Shock

The width of the room meant that the 700mm wide shower tray is only just workable - and means that the door frame on that side is basically just a thin strip of wood.

@BestIsWest - but in support of your dh, a walk-in shower is absolutely wonderful. There's something about just being able to walk into the shower that makes it simultaneously easy and decadent! Grin

venusandmars · 10/08/2021 19:34

@PastramiNoRye I've been converted to soup for breakfast since I went on a trekking holiday in Vietnam. That was what the families ate. I think it is a tremendous approach - lots of veg and protein at the start of the day, with a boiled egg and butter. Full and happy for a long time.

@prettybird one of my bathrooms is a small room with no natural light. I am thinking of getting sunpipes (to bring light in from overhead) and I was thinking light and bright, but I'm inspired by your bathroom and now thinking something rich and jewelled... (with the sunpipes).

@Dellabob123 I have the occasional ice cream with my dcg (occasional being once during the summer not once every week) however I think that in the same way that I can have gin (and dgc can't) then the balance is that they can have ice cream and I can't. We don't all have to have the same 'treat' at the same time...

@Bryonyshcmyony - why not have the sparkling water without the diet coke? tbh I can't imagine a more revolting mix!!

ilovecherries · 10/08/2021 19:44

Crawling out from under my itchy, smelly stone to grab more piriton and say hello. I’d forgotten how hellish I felt the first time and am now consoling myself with how gorgeous I will look in another week with glowy skin. Anyway, I’m eating properly, consuming shit loads (no pun intended) of green veg and drinking the water.

HarrietDVane · 10/08/2021 19:44

Hello all!

Have been out for the day and managed to resist ice cream (polishes halo) so I'm late to post today. We took a picnic so I was able to stay on plan at lunchtime.

B - coffee
L - tuna, mayonnaise, green salad. Chorizo and cheese rollitos,
D - bolognese sauce and soybean spaghetti from Aldi (seems to be pretty low carb at 2.1g per 100g - not tried it before). I normally have green beans or similar while everyone else has pasta but today we're all giving this one a go.

I hope all those with DC getting results today have had good news!

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/08/2021 19:46

@Bryonyshcmyony - why not have the sparkling water without the diet coke? tbh I can't imagine a more revolting mix!!

I don't normally drink it but it just seemed a bit more celebratory than water 😂 and it's surprisingly nice thinned down with fizzy water, less sickly

PastramiNoRye · 10/08/2021 19:49

@venusandmars I think I will add a boiled egg tomorrow. I've got one more portion of soup! It did feel like a properly good meal to start the day 💪

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 19:49

I love your new bathroom prettybird. I'm having my bathroom done, started today. They've removed everything except the toilet now, including the door!!!! Thats our only toilet as well, so we have to announce our toilet visits to the whole family do nobody comes up the stairs while we're busy.

I took DD and the dog out for the day while the fitters were working today, which is my plan for the rest of the week as well. I took a packed lunch of salad with chicken and cheese for me, which felt very virtuous when everyone else was eating sandwiches and crisps but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Dinner was a chicken and veg stir fry.

venusandmars · 10/08/2021 19:49

@recreationalcalpol apologies if I've lost track of where you are in this process (you may have been low carb for a while). But if not... berries and keto granola are for week 3 onward, (does your keto granola include a sugar substitute like erythritol?? try to avoid these isfpossilble).

Have you had your dinner already? And still feel hungry? In which case I'd suggest it is your head that feels hungry, not your body. It's a common response to stress and tiredness, to feel the need to eat or drink. I'd suggest you sit down after dc's bedtime with a cup of herbal tea, or a glass of water, or something similar. Then really, really notice whether you are hungry, or is it something else - feeling emotional / resentful / tired / lonely? If it's something else what can you do? Have a warm bath; go for a walk in a wood; call a friend; do some knitting or a sudoku - anything that engages your brain and body in a different way and which avoids the habitual bag of crisps or sweets or glass of wine.

After all, the stress of putting the kids to bed, or the stress of going to work, or the stress of the endlessness of family life... all are endless, and we need to find some better ways to deal with them that isn't about eating more of the wrong things or having wine.

And my apologies if you were being being light-hearted and tongue in cheek; I've replied with a bit of a heavy answer...

PastramiNoRye · 10/08/2021 19:51

@HarrietDVane was the soybean spaghetti good?

HarrietDVane · 10/08/2021 19:54
@HarrietDVane was the soybean spaghetti good?
It had a slightly weird 'rough' texture but it was passable. Everyone ate it so I'm taking that as a win!

Kerplunkk · 10/08/2021 19:58

Feeling a bit disheartened after finding an old notebook with my measurements and weight written down, I can remember me & DH had written it down before starting a diet plan.
My weight then was only 10st, within a healthy bmi range.
I would LOVE to be 10st now.
Even more dismayed when I noticed the healthy bmi bottom range for my height is 7st10lb 😱 I think I’d personally look ill that small

BestIsWest · 10/08/2021 20:02

@prettybird ooh, a 1500 bath will fit and allow us an 800 x 1200 wide shower. We are both 5’9 though so I was worried whether we’d fit. I haven’t been able to see one in the flesh so to speak. We need to remove a pesky chimney breast first anyway but it sounds doable.

Rayna37 · 10/08/2021 20:09

No YOU accidentally bought 30 eggs on Monday forgetting you bought 30 on Friday ...

Turns out 56 eggs over 16 days (current stock and the shelf life) is 3.6 per day, which with two low carb adults and a toddler isn't even a challenge Grin

Rayna37 · 10/08/2021 20:13

Today's food as not posted (or had a proper day to report!) for a while:

B: 2 chippolatas and a boiled egg (cold, 10am)
L: egg cheese chive mayo on salad; yogurt
D: a nice Lebanese type chicken breast and veg thing from waitrose with broccoli and spring greens. Bit carby (12g per portion) as it had a few chick peas in it but made a nice change was reduced. A few berries with clotted cream.

recreationalcalpol · 10/08/2021 20:22

Thanks @venusandmars - I’m BF my 14 week old so am doing boot camp light, hence the nuts and fruit etc. I have been low carbing for a while as I had GD during pregnancy but was advised by my obstetrician to eat normally for the first 13 weeks post partum so that my HbA1C test (done last week) was accurate. Luckily I am not diabetic for now!

Both kiddos are asleep now and you’re right - I am not really hungry. Pudding is a psychological need Grin

Kerplunkk · 10/08/2021 20:24

@Rayna37 I have to admit I felt a bit odd buying 30 eggs this week, I usually only buy that many every fortnight or sometimes longer still.
I’m finding I feel less sluggish.
I usually put off doing dishes straight after dinner as I want to sit and rest after food but this past week I’ve been up and at it.

Also made a big roast on the weekend, it’s my fave meal and I would usually stuff myself stupid with all the veg and roasties & mash, this weekend it was everyone else who felt overly full and bloated and I just felt sated and pleasantly full

PastramiNoRye · 10/08/2021 20:26

🤣🤣🤣

Brilliant! To be fair, they wouldn't last long in our house either!

PastramiNoRye · 10/08/2021 20:26

@HarrietDVane totally! Must look out file them!

JimHairy · 10/08/2021 21:10

So today I discovered low carb is so much harder with a baby Blush

I’ve done ok today, but only managed a protein shake for breakfast and lunch because I’ve been running about like a blue arsed fly all day with small boy in tow. I’m looking after my grandma at the moment who has dementia so it’s just been madness. Still, it was a protein shake not a pizza, so although not great it was at least low carb.

For dinner I sat down after small boy was in bed and had a lovely chicken and paneer curry with cauli rice. It was all creamy and yum.

Fingers crossed tomorrow will be a bit calmer!

Sorry, photo is small boy and grandma having a lunch date. She doesn’t recognise anyone or anything but she was happily chatting away to the baby for a good hour Smile babies are magic.

prettybird · 10/08/2021 22:01

@BestIsWest : here is the rough plan I put together back in April for our bathroom, before meeting with the bathroom fitter. This was also before dh stripped the bathroom back to its basics - taking all the plaster and lathe off and just leaving the vertical studs. We He also took down nlt one but two lowered ceilings before revealing the original (wall papered Hmm) ceiling Shock

The dotted line on the right ended up being a solid wall up to the bath bit (and dookets indebted shelves above the bath and loo) and we went with the 1500mm bath. We were able to go with the 1200mm x 700mm shower tray as we "found" space behind the plaster and lathe on the "door" wall for the plumbing.

The glass panels ended up being 700mm on the side and and 700mm at the end with a 500mm entrance on the side. This was also because the sink ended up being built on an indent because of building out the "new" stud wall for the hidden cistern.

I put in a smaller sink (only 605mm wide) after advice on here not to squeeze the loo into too small a space. Smile I'm really glad I followed that advice.

@recreationalcalpol well done you for managing this according to what is right for your life. And for getting to understand the false need for pudding the pudding you don't really need

venusandmars · 10/08/2021 22:17

Ach @prettybird I saw your picture and for a moment I thought I was on a parking thread Grin Grin
