Summer Low Carb Mini Bootcamp - week 2

Morning and welcome to week 2

I'll link to the spreadsheet in a comment below

Fingers crossed everyone's had a great week weight wise and that week 2 brings a break from the rain for most of us!

Please remember when you get on the scales this morning/tomorrow morning, that some people lose weight much quicker than others.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, chances are that you will lose it quicker than if you are closer to your target. Some people will lose a shed load in week one, but then nothing in week two - whereas others will lose more modestly, but consistently, week after week. The only thing that matters is what is happening to you.

If you haven't lost much, please don't be disappointed. Make sure that you are genuinely following the rules - are you drinking enough water? Are you eating high fat? That one glass or wine, or that small piece of cake - they all add up.

And even if you have genuinely followed the rules - if you haven't seen the scales move by much - have you measured?

We are all different, and rates of loss will be different too. Just think about the food that you have been eating, and consider how this WOE compares with low calorie or low fat diets.

Changing to a low carb way of eating as compared to a low fat or low calorie diet is not an easy transition, and it is to be expected that there will be snags along the way. Hopefully the Bootcamp threads will give you the help and guidance that you need - and I hope that when you get on the scales next, your hard work will be rewarded!

(thank you for the motivational words @biwi Smile )

@JimHairy what a great photo - the old and the young - communicating in their own way...

prettybird · 10/08/2021 22:19

Grin @venusandmars

I was dead chuffed with myself at the time for drawing a plan that was actually to scale Wink

prettybird · 10/08/2021 22:37

@venusandmars - next time you're in or near Glasgow, you could come and see the bathroom in real life as you now know that I'm not a Hairy Trucker Grin

Now that we can have people visiting on the house again Wink

StuntNun · 11/08/2021 06:15

Kerplunkk after your post I checked out what the lowest weight for me on the BMI normal range would be and it's 8 stone! I think my friends and family would stage an intervention if I weighed 8 stone!

I'm jealous of the new bathroom talk. I have grand plans for mine to split it into two - a bathroom and a shower room - but unfortunately no money to pay for such a thing! There are six of us in a four-bedroom house with only one bathroom so it's a real challenge to get everyone through the shower in the morning especially with teenagers who stay in there for ages.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/08/2021 07:08

Still 12 7 today

Dh and I are going away this weekend so I will try and stay on plan but not going to spoil a meal out by getting too worried over the menu. I definitely won't be eating bread or puddings though.

prettybird · 11/08/2021 08:25

@StuntNun - for when you might have enough money, this is what our bathroom fitter achieved when he split a thin tenement bathroom into a family bathroom (with shower over bath) and a separate en-suite shower room.

StuntNun · 11/08/2021 09:03

That looks great Prettybird. My bathroom is a big rectangle rather than long and thin but I think it will split into two okay. I had to draw out a plan because nobody could understand it when I described it to them.

Just weighed myself and I’m 10stone 13lbs, first time I’ve been in the 10s for years! Very exciting 🎉

BestIsWest · 11/08/2021 10:12

@prettybird, it’s amazing what you find in these old houses. Two ceilings! We have a chimney breast that goes through the original kitchen (now breakfast room) and up through the bathroom but doesn’t go through the roof so we think it’s never been used. DH thinks cabling has been run through it though and maybe heating pipes. I’d like to take the whole thing out as it would make our breakfast room less awkward as well as the bathroom but it’s a big job as it means new ceilings and floorings.
Our house isn’t even that old (1970) but had been considerably mucked about before we bought it.

Next job is to find a decent bathroom fitter - they are all booked until next year.

prettybird · 11/08/2021 10:42

@BestIsWest - not two ceilings but three Shock! The very lowered ceiling with the fluorescent strip light that we'd endured was there when we moved in 22 years ago. Above that was another ceiling of long thin planks painted a dull yellow gloss on top of anaglypta, which was just below the original ceiling which had coving that had been damaged - and which was wallpapered in tile effect flowery paper! Confused

@StuntNun That split looks eminently do-able Smile Is there anyway you could rejig the walls/layout so that you don't have the inner "hallway" which is potentially wasted space? Now you just need to hope for a lottery win Grin

StuntNun · 11/08/2021 10:51

There isn't space for two doorways side-by-side because the bathroom door is at the top of the stairs so there's only 30cm to the left of it. It seems so odd only having one bathroom in a four-bedroom house. And there's no space to put an en-suite in anywhere so it's either split the bathroom in two or lose a bedroom.

prettybird · 11/08/2021 11:31

Fair enough. My best friend has a similar house in North Wales - but they have five bedrooms and only one bathroom Shock(although at least the loo was separate Wink)

The upstairs is a hotpotch of wee stairs going up and down levels and a long corridor - but all built of Welsh granite and slate so mobile reception inside is dreadful Hmm so not easy to do structural work.

They ended up putting in a wee loo and shower room off their kitchen as part of the utility room, when they converted the garage to a kitchen.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/08/2021 11:53

Lunch at 11am - fried halloumi and a fried egg and spinach with chili oil
Greek yogurt and a few strawbs
Spoon almond butter (jar nearly gone thankfully)

cheeseisthebest · 11/08/2021 12:07

Oh I love halloumi. Was going to do a tray bake with veg, sausages and halloumi tonight but forgot my daughter has 2 friends here for tea so they will have to have the sausages. (Sulks!)

ilovecherries · 11/08/2021 12:57

My family have almost disowned me for eating cold left-over curry for breakfast. Philistines. One of the nice things about BC is freedom from the tyranny of ‘normal’ breakfast foods.

Kerplunkk · 11/08/2021 13:10

Well done @Daveggie1 Flowers

B - Greek yoghurt
L - corned beef & a fried egg (random combination but I just really fancied corned beef)
D - Sardines & green beans

Kerplunkk · 11/08/2021 13:11

My veg count is a bit low today actually so may add some courgetti to dinner.
Have been really good with water though!

prettybird · 11/08/2021 13:44

My runner bean plants have finally started producing. I picked more than I needed for supper last night and am now enjoying munching the remaining raw ones Smile

Jollyholibobs · 11/08/2021 13:50

When family members challenge my breakfast choices I like to remind them of this standard Japanese breakfast from our trip to Kyoto a few year’s ago. No cereal and toast there. Obviously rice is not BC and actually relooking at it I am thinking it was a big portion! Yum.

Daveggie1 · 11/08/2021 14:43

Thank you @Kerplunkk! X

StuntNun · 11/08/2021 14:57

That looks amazing Jollyholibobs I would love to try a Japanese breakfast minus the rice of course!

PastramiNoRye · 11/08/2021 17:06

Today's menu!

B: soup with a couple of boiled eggs, which filled me up until 4pm.

Lunch/snack: roast chicken leg with a creamy coffee

Dinner: chicken fajita bowl with lots of salad.

I've not done so well on the water today so need to catch up a bit!

recreationalcalpol · 11/08/2021 17:46

Afternoon all. Settling nicely into BC (llight) now:

B: Greek yog mixed with frozen raspberries to make froyo
L: burrata, ham and olive salad
D: roast chicken, salad, broccoli and cauliflower

Dellabob123 · 11/08/2021 18:37

Still away and managed a not so bad LC menu today:
B Greek yog, flaxseed, 4 strawbs and dash cream
L - leftover bbq sausage and salad with oil and Mayo
D - BBC’s salmon with buttered broccoli

Not as disheartened about food away now, but I have run out of Greek yog and I’ve really been enjoying as a change from eggs.

A few more days to go...hope I can keep it up.

Daveggie1 · 11/08/2021 18:44

I’m doing boot camp lite as I’m vegan.
I made Bolognese using 100g walnuts and 300g mushrooms as I had seen suggested somewhere ages ago.
I over pulsed them in the food processor so it ended up a bit of a purée 😬
It worked ok but would have have been way better if I had hand chopped the mushrooms and only food processed the walnuts. Added garlic and some tinned tomatoes etc to make the sauce and had with chopped courgette. Tasted very mushroomy probably because I had pretty much puréed them lol.
I had loads left so I added chilli type flavours (smoked paprika, chilli, cinnamon, cumin, ground coriander) and it tastes amazing, much better than the bolognese. Will have that with cauliflower rice tomorrow and maybe celeriac chips the next night.
