Morning all!

here's the spreadsheet . If you haven't already seen it, check out the new info for veg/nuts/fruit that @AthelstaneTheUnready has added to it. Updated (and hopefully now the most accurate) data for all three categories, and all grouped into traffic light categories - green to eat freely (when allowed, in the case of nuts and fruit), amber to be more cautious about and red to avoid as much as possible.

If there's a particular ingredient that isn't on there, just let me know and I'll find the data for that and add it.

And now to week 4

A reminder that this week is also one where you're unlikely to see much loss - and possibly may see a gain. Just remember that THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL! Don't panic, but just KOKO and things should get moving again from next week.

Off to catch up with the end of last week's thread now. Hope everyone has an enjoyable bank holiday Monday Flowers

Lovely photo @cheeseisthebest!

@BIWI I would peel, chop and then freeze if you don't want to use both of them right now.

Today's food

B: Coffee
L: Boiled eggs with salad
D: Tandoori chicken, sag paneer and salad (I blame @FusionChefGeoff Wink)

CrispyChickenThighs · 08/05/2021 19:06

I've been 'lurking' several days behind the threads for two weeks now, as work suddenly got horrendously busy with constant deadlines.

Thanks for everyone going through a tough time, and congrats to everyone doing well!

I've discovered stress makes me think I need 'treats' which actually make me feel awful (all low carb, but far too much to the point I feel sick) and I start avoiding the scales. Whatever happens on Monday, I'm accepting it while looking in to how to slow down and relax, even if it's for 10 minutes a day!

About to head into another busy time up until the start of June, but I feel more positive now I've seen how I cope and identified that it wasn't very well!

I've been excellent with my water though Smile

CrispyChickenThighs · 08/05/2021 19:06

@cheeseisthebest, that dress is gorgeous!

Andi2020 · 08/05/2021 19:12

@nowlook is it the same ds with gf that broke his collarbone.
This may keep them apart a bit more. While he is recovering
With covid19 teenagers spent more time on facetime but with things opening a bit in different countries it may give him more time to hang with his friends and her with her friends. How long are they together.
At 14 they probably won't last forever like they think they will.
My dd is 17 so a bit older
I have no experience of alcohol in teenagers but feel free to ask what every teenage romance questions, its good to hear people opinions
All you can do is support your ds and accept her cause if you say shes not right he will want her more.
As I said a few days ago my dd nearly drove me to the crisps asking about college fund what they do can affect or eating.
My other 2 teenagers are baking now in oven with me supervising they are using the low carb ingredients so I can have a weekend nibble

BestIsWest · 08/05/2021 19:17

Led on by you lot I have just had tandoori chicken with sag paneer. Delicious. I am not usually easily led. Oh no.

StuntNun · 08/05/2021 19:17

The keto chocolate cake was nice and enjoyed by the non-low carbers and low carbers alike. It's probably very high calorie because it's made with almond flour so not something to indulge in too often but good for a birthday cake. I'm hoping the artificial sweeteners won't have an adverse effect on anyone! Blush

nowlook · 08/05/2021 19:28

Yes, the very same @Andi2020. DS2 is a gem because he's only 11 and his world comprises cricket and minecraft

They're not actually boyfriend and girlfriend. DS1 is just supporting every five minutes/waiting in the wings. He's going to be the nice guy who finishes last with this particular girl, I fear. In fact, you've really helped me (even if unintentionally). I'm not bothered about him supporting her; I'm bothered by the inevitable heartbreak for him when she's better Sad

And I'd forgotten that it was you who has been such a terrible mother as not to have squirreled away tens of thousands in savings for DD Grin. All that to come, I expect!

Well done for keeping on keeping on @CrispyChickenThighs. Glad you're going to try to take some time for you.

Figrus2 · 08/05/2021 19:29

In no particular order, today I ate

2 rashers, one fried egg, serving of tuna, serving of quorn, tsp of nutritional yeast, one courgette, 3 cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, green baby salad bag, 60ml double cream , 50g cheese.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 08/05/2021 19:46

@BIWI

BTW, I never knew about your husband *@AthelstaneTheUnready*, so I'm really sorry to hear that Flowers
Ach, it's over ten years ago now since he died. It neatly side-stepped the decision of whether to go for annoying, limb-breaking, unsuitable-love-affair-having, teenagers. So you know, swings and roundabouts. Wink
nowlook · 08/05/2021 20:02

That's really shit @AthelstaneTheUnready. I'm sorry.

On fags...did you just stop immediately and, if so, how much weight did you gain? I know you had a few earlier attempts, but I do need to ditch this vape thing. I'm more reliant on it than ever, particularly as I don't need to go outside.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 08/05/2021 20:13

Just stopped immediately. Done it before, so knew I could do the initial bit quite easily. Each time it gets easier to do it for longer.

The weight: removing nicotine and other substances does play merry hell with your metabolism and hormones. But it doesn't make you put on weight. It just really confuses your body so that it just sort of freezes where it is, regardless of what type or amount of food you're eating. Lasts about a couple of weeks to a month for me, and then all back to normal.

I think the gaining weight trope comes from people being encouraged to stuff any old crap in their mouth as long as it's not a cigarette.

cheeseisthebest · 08/05/2021 20:21

Athlestane I am so sorry xx

Amazing with the fans, must be so hard. I was never a hard-core smoker but definitely enjoyed them in my late teens/early 20s.

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/05/2021 20:26

Just catching up with the thread, @FusionChefGeoff and @pangolinfan I’m glad tings are ok with you, I’ve too many friends for whom the news hasn’t been so good so I take joy in every bit of “it’s a fatty lump/lymph node/milk duct” I hear.

@cheeseisthebest that dress is really lovely, it suits you so well and what a fabulous figure you have.

All busy chez jellycats, Miss jelly enjoyed a new theatre class this week - she’s all about singing and dancing and performing, so has felt very limited at school while they’ve not been allowed to sing. Master jelly is thrilled to bits I’ve found a parkour course for him, I figured if he was going to throw himself off every surface in the house he’d be better learning how to fall. I’m now anticipating the broken bones because he really is fearless.

Food today has been roll and sausage for breakfast, Greek meatballs and salad for dinner and some dark chocolate.

I was sent some sample packs of these www.purition.co.uk/shop/ shakes by a friend who works for them. They’re processed but seem low carb/high fat compatible - I was thinking of using them on those days when I’m juggling a bit too much as a quick breakfast. Any thoughts?

cheeseisthebest · 08/05/2021 20:37

Fags not fans!!

cheeseisthebest · 08/05/2021 20:39

Thank you jellycat!
My daughter is a performer too, loves acting and singing and has singing lessons and done one professional show at Christmas. She misses it and just can't find a drama group she likes. Think she will start to not want to do it anymore which is a shame. (Almost 14).

prettybird · 08/05/2021 20:51

Made a lovely Suleman's Pilaf tonight with left over lamb (posted the recipe in the recipe thread some time ago). I've cracked the cauliflower rice: undercook the not too blitzed cauliflower "rice" in butter before adding half the pine nut/lamb/shallot/tomato mix and letting it cook together for a couple of minutes. Yummy Smile Dh had the standard rice and raisins in his.

Sat down to eat it properly at the dining table with candles and everything Grin - but had the TV on in the lounge so that we could hear when the Scottish regions were declaring Smile (Happy with the results Wink)

BestIsWest · 08/05/2021 22:05

@prettybird I’ve quite enjoyed the results coming in during the afternoon/evening. Much nicer and more civilised than overnight. I’m in Wales so it’s been really interesting here.

Chunkymonkey123 · 08/05/2021 22:41

@FusionChefGeoff really pleased for you, what a relief!

Sorry to hear about the broken collar bone, it’s horrible when your children are hurt.

I’ve been good today but had a large glass of wine, didn’t really enjoy it as much as normal.

Tonight I had saag chicken tikka takeaway but without anything with it. I looked and it was 16g carbs which is not ideal but I only had an omelette otherwise today.

I’m thinking of joining the gym as I need to up my exercise, I really can’t be bothered atm to do anything though but I think that’s a result of the last year. Seeing my family next week for the time in over 8 months, I can’t wait and I hope it’s the start of normality returning.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/05/2021 23:45

Thank you so much everyone. It's been a weird day, I've had two little cries one sheer relief that I could now allow the scary thoughts to flood in because it wasn't real and then one about just how shit the last year has been in general and how much I miss all the stuff I've been pretending not to miss Sad. I've had it so easy compared to so many but it all just caught up with me today - listening to the Aladdin sound track of all things!

Massively over ate my delicious takeaway - I'm
Sorry / pleased I've inspired so many others!! The tandoori chicken leg was my favourite but I went totally overboard on the tikka meat and the leftover portion of the family size saag paneer is embarrassingly small.

I also indulged in 2 dark choc mini bars instead of my usual weekend 1 bar and am supposed to be weighing tomorrow so that could be fun.

Having said that the forecast is appalling and I'm still not 100% post jab so I may sack off the long run which means I could weigh on Monday instead. Will see how I feel in the morning.

Eyes are closing now so off to bed now.

Rshard · 09/05/2021 06:05

So happy to hear your update geoff, and yours pangolin

It never fails to amaze me the crap that life throws people and the strength and resilience people manage to find Flowers

Indeed nowlook and it’s throwing it down again! Took dd to meet some friends last night and took advantage of being near a chip shop who are all over my city but have a Greek grill at one particular branch. Had grilled salmon and Greek salad, was lush!

devoncreamtea · 09/05/2021 06:57

So nice to read thread. I’m feeling really ill after first jab yesterday, so nice to have something to distract me 😊

ListenLinda · 09/05/2021 07:05

Jumping back in after catching up. Still moving fast this thread haha
Our meal out friday night was lovely, a real nice treat and was nice to enjoy some time with him.
Yesterday had a baby shower, outside 😬
Was debating about going but glad I did, was a lovely few hours and just felt normal. Had 4 gins and a glass of prosecco across the two days, hoping i can maintain the whoosh for tomorrow. Lots of water today.
DH actual birthday today and no idea what to do for food today.

nowlook · 09/05/2021 07:22

You're a better man than me @Rshard if you managed to have the Greek grill without their chips! Although I've lived in the south of the county for almost a decade, I'm a northerner at heart. George's is the chain I'd typically gravitate towards, so I only found your chain a few years ago Grin

(With apologies to everyone else for this very parochial post)

Random789 · 09/05/2021 07:53

Thak you to whoever mentioned fruit/herbal teabags in a water bottle. Yesterday I bought some twinings and tetley 'cold infusion' bags.

I had seen them on the shelves for a while and assumed that they were gimmicky and probably not very nice. In fact, they are really useful, just giving a reasonably mild flavour with no sweetness. I think they will really help me keep up to my 2.5 litres -- recently I had been flagging with that.

(I can't say that I've particularly enjoyed the tetley lemony one, though. It tastes so much like the smell of a particular kind of furniture polish that I half-remember from my youth.)

Jollyholibobs · 09/05/2021 07:54

@cheeseisthebest beautiful dress.

@venusandmars thanks for your maintenance insights. And I don’t think I can return the shoes that have run 12 miles this week. I am not quite giving up on them yet.

Great results with homemade Greek yoghurt. Very small amount resulted from 0.5l of milk. Before I realised how little there is I told DD she could have some -she will eat it all! I will make some more today.

B scrambled egg, spinach, mushrooms, smoked mackerel
L green veg soup
D smoked haddock, asparagus from the garden, poached egg, mushrooms, spinach

DD is very interested in this way of eating and reported she had followed for a couple of weeks so far with good results and her DP has lost weight too as he ate what she was having and now ‘his trousers are falling off him’ . Not fair!!

Well done @BIWI for sticking to the c25k. My MIM -long run this morning of about 13 miles. (Training for a slow marathon). Muck out May should really be my focus.
