Morning all!

here's the spreadsheet . If you haven't already seen it, check out the new info for veg/nuts/fruit that @AthelstaneTheUnready has added to it. Updated (and hopefully now the most accurate) data for all three categories, and all grouped into traffic light categories - green to eat freely (when allowed, in the case of nuts and fruit), amber to be more cautious about and red to avoid as much as possible.

If there's a particular ingredient that isn't on there, just let me know and I'll find the data for that and add it.

And now to week 4

A reminder that this week is also one where you're unlikely to see much loss - and possibly may see a gain. Just remember that THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL! Don't panic, but just KOKO and things should get moving again from next week.

Off to catch up with the end of last week's thread now. Hope everyone has an enjoyable bank holiday Monday Flowers

@FusionChefGeoff

What's the icing *@StuntNun*?? Did it use ££££ worth of Xylotjrje stuff
Did you mean eurithtryhosijdftol @FusionChefGeoff? Grin

Thanks all for your good wishes for DS. He's stormed through the grief cycle and has now entered the milking-it-for-all-it's-worth phase. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.

He broke his arm a couple of years ago (basketball of all things) and now the clavicle. Could he be brittle in some way @prettybird? Or is this just the lot of a sporty kid? I've never broken so much as a sweat but (unlike many of you) was never one for sports.

I'm really please for you cheeseisthebest. That will look well on the spreadsheet come Monday. Shall we bank it now or are we hoping for more? Grin

Bestbees · 08/05/2021 12:20

@StuntNunthat looks epic! Hope it tastes great.

@nowlook love the Julian of Norwich reference.

I feel really nauseous, think it must be the gin last night. Only had two! Baaah.

Hughbert · 08/05/2021 12:24

Great news Geoff Smile
Flowers for all the stressed adults and poorly kids and elderly parents.

Teenage dd home for weekend (residential school) so trying to balance keeping on plan with excitement to see her. Weight loss going dreadfully. Overall I have lost 4lbs but put on 6, so am currently 2 higher than my starting weight. Having looked really carefully at what I am eating, I think I am having too much dairy. If I reduce that, I am going to be v limited in terms of what I can eat, but will be avoiding it in all its forms for the coming week. I am never hungry at all, but have a feeling I am not eating enough, so am going to aim for 3 small meals. Hope everyone has a reasonable weekend despite yet more rubbish weather.

prettybird · 08/05/2021 12:35

Nope @nowlook - just bad luck Sad.

Ds broke his leg playing football in the playground c.two years beforehand: he was on the muddy grass despite not supposed to be there and he turned and his foot didn't. Spiral fracture! Shock It was his first day back at school after a week's skiing too Confused

Brittle bone breaks really are more frequent than that (another area that my dad had to testify on in NAI cases).

Thanks @prettybird

I was strangely paranoid yesterday that the hospital would think it too much of a coincidence. A bit like that moment of doubt when you get pulled over by the police when you've been drinking diet coke all night. DH thought it hilarious, given DS is now 6ft tall and (since BC) heavier than me.

@Bestbees I use the JofN reference often and always in the wrong context Grin. It's my version of "and this too shall pass" and typically snarled through gritted teeth.

Wonderful news that your DD is home @Hughbert. Anything we can help you on re: the weightloss?

BIWI · 08/05/2021 13:11

Brilliant news @FusionChefGeoff! What a relief that must be Flowers

Great news @FusionChefGeoff!

Random789 · 08/05/2021 13:39

Alarmingly, my foray into alcohol last night has left me feeling fine and dandy today ... and 0.6 kg lighter on the scales Shock. So I have a clear plan for the future: drink plenty of beer.Grin

Not really. In fact the dip in my weight is such a moral booster that I think this afternoon's supermarket trip will see me purchasing only the most virtuous bootcamp-approved items.

Very sorry to hear about the broken collarbone, nowlook. Glad he seems to be coping well.

Hopeislost · 08/05/2021 13:40

Amazing news @FusionChefGeoff ! And I'm now contemplating an Indian for dinner - I love sag paneer!

nowlook · 08/05/2021 13:46

I'm very, very happy that everything was as it should be @FusionChefGeoff Flowers

Like Hope, I am now craving contemplating an Indian takeaway Grin

There is something somewhere about the temporary loss after alcohol @Random789. Might be misremembering, though. Summat to do with dehydration...@StuntNun, help! Grin I'm out of my depth and not entirely sure I'm styling it out.

A rate miserable day int it @Rshard?

nowlook · 08/05/2021 13:49

I've tried in vain to summon @StuntNun above...my desperation shines through in the compound punctuation.

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 08/05/2021 13:52

I have just spent a lovely ten minutes looking up Julian of Norwich.

Great news, Geoff, what a relief.

Really wanted some pate with crackers and had no time or energy after some very strenuous paddleboarding in quite a choppy sea so made those ones out of piles of cheddar gratings? Scorched the first batch to kingdom come, second were delish.

Also had too much wine. But too much is just so little these days! I used to be such a wild child and now I am seguing off to a happy older life of gardening and knitting and virtual tee totalness.

Sympathy also to the ROI poster - in NI and we are allowed to sit outdoors now but it is constantly foundering and raining.

nowlook · 08/05/2021 14:04

Not remotely BC, but general interest. I've received two pairs of terrible Ray Ban fakes from China. They were not ordered by me or anyone else chez nous. Apparently, this is a Brushing Scam. People get hold of your name and address (typically through a data breach) and then send you their products. The delivery allows them to post glowing reviews of a legitimate purchase, thus boosting their online business. They even say "Roy Bin" on the arms of the glasses Grin

Not a scam where the recipient suffers any loss, but nonetheless interesting (well, for me, at any rate).

Jollyholibobs · 08/05/2021 14:09

@FusionChefGeoff phew. Really pleased for you.

@nowlook glad to hear your DS is on the mend. I seem to recall inflexible and time consuming fracture clinic appointments (long waits) when my DS fractured a wrist. But he had surgery and pins to be monitored and removed so hopefully you don’t have any of that.

I have a trial home made yoghurt in a thermos at the moment. Fingers crossed.

Move in May ongoing with lots of running and going to the gym. Have finally bought £££ new running shoes, gait analysis the works. Felt like slippers in the shop. Sore big toes after two runs. Long run tomorrow following cutting toes nails will determine whether they are destined for e-bay.

I’m supposed to be maintaining but have gained 8lbs in two months. It’s so tricky to get the balance right. Have not posted for a while as was trying to kid myself it was a temporary blip. I need to address it. It’s mainly mid afternoon stress eating. Mostly yoghurt, cheese and nuts. Have upped my fish intake as I don’t eat meat to help cut down dairy.

Sorry long post after radio silence for days.

Moonswimmer · 08/05/2021 14:10

@FusionChefGeoff that’s the best news - I’m so pleased!

ElasticFirecracker · 08/05/2021 14:27

@Hopeislost

Thanks to ZiggZagg and everyone that is having a rough time of it.

@ElasticFirecracker Homemade salad dressing is best but I keep a bottle of Cardini's Original Caesar on standby - only 1.4g carbs per 100g.

Thank @Hopeislost you for this tip. I bought some Cardini's and it looks like everyone else likes it because it has already gone and I have only had one tablespoonful. Will have to buy a larger supply.
venusandmars · 08/05/2021 14:32

@FusionChefGeoff brilliant news! In the midst of life's trauma's it really helps to share will people who will listen, hear and understand. However, in real life, sharing difficult information with close friends and family often results in you supporting them. My dd had ovarian cancer in her early 20's and her most hated phrase was "well at least... " (because it was usually followed by some inane comment that comforted the person saying it, but did not help her a jot) e.g. 'at least you're young' (how does that make it better?) 'at least you're not still at university' ( Confused ??) and when she told her closest friend that the cells were malignant: 'at least it's not cancer - that's lethal' Shock Anyway, very, glad to hear that things are OK, and very happy that you could lean on the community here.

@nowlook another one who loves the 'all shall be well... ' quote. I also love the (start) of the Horatio Spafford hymn All is well with my soul

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Life hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

(Refrain:) It is well (it is well),
with my soul (with my soul),
It is well, it is well with my soul.

(after that it gets a bit 'religious') but HS wrote it after his 4 children drowned in a sea crossing from US to England - miraculously his wife survived. I don't know what my 'soul' is, but somehow there are moments when all around is truly crap and awful and disastrous, and yet somewhere deep inside there is core of me that just keeps on going, and is steady and OK... and here endeth the philosophical musings Smile

And @nowlook laughing at never broken so much as a sweat that's me too. I'll plod along for miles walking, but run?? In fact when I was 5 and it was our first school sports day, my mum explained to me that I had to wait till the starter's shout then run to the finish. Apparently, I looked horrified and said, 'No, I think I'll just walk'. Which I did. And I still got a lollipop Grin

@Random789 alcohol / weight loss = dehydration. Unfortunately a glass of water might see a +0.6 Sad or maybe that's just me.

In other news... It's May, it's mid afternoon it should be glorious and sunny and warm and bright. Instead it is 6 degrees, with an additional cold wind for chill factor. I've got the central heating on. It's so dark and dull that I've got the lights on. I blame Brexit, now that we're no longer part of Europe we don't get to share their lovely weather. God help us if Scotland separates from the warmth of the South East...

venusandmars · 08/05/2021 14:37

@nowlook if the sun glasses don't have (authentic and verified) UV protection then the sun can still damage your eyes. So OK for looking down, but never look up at the sun.

ElasticFirecracker · 08/05/2021 14:39

I've been ill this week, which is why I've been quiet. But have managed well and had earlier in the week prepared some food ahead which was useful.

My major achievement this week is giving up milk. It has been a real problem and drinking it had become a compulsion. I used to have KoKo milk, and have returned to that.

I'm feeling much better about understanding what I need to do, and am hoping that my next achievement will be getting on top of planning and being more organised about food.

StuntNun · 08/05/2021 14:42

Entirely untrue Nowlook, alcohol consumption is well known for triggering a whoosh so Random789's 0.6 kg should stay off. The problem is that you can't easily tell when you're ready for a whoosh so it's not something you can do on purpose.

Fantastic news FusionChefGeoff! I will let you know how the cake turns out. Hopefully much nicer than the Diet Doctor one everyone was complaining about a couple of threads ago.

venusandmars · 08/05/2021 15:05

@Jollyholibobs why ebay them? take them back to the shop. knows nothing about running or buying running shoes, as evidenced by previous post

Re maintaining: what are you eating / drinking? Do you still weigh regularly and modify if necessary? When I am maintaining my weight can tolerate some carbs on a weekly basis (things like lentils, beans, chick peas) but on those days I don't also have high fat foods. If I go completely off lchf e.g. have fish and chips then I try to follow it with a couple of days of very strict bootcamp plus intermittent fasting (16:8 or 5:2). I sort of have a weight range that I am happy in and if I edge too much upwards I rein it in a lot.

Maintenance is hard because it is so easy for everything to creep up. Over the last 10 days I've had dh's retirement, birthday and a holiday. I've ended up one pound heavier. OK, but there were some uncompromising choices. No to all the options at breakfast time except the main items (eggs / protein / mushrooms etc) so no juice or fruit or toast. And no cake with coffee. And chips once in 10 days.

I have also bought smaller plates. Now my plate looks as full as dh's but it has about 1/3rd less food on it. And I still feel full and not hungry.

And I scrutinise carbs counts of various meals to learn and learn and learn about what the best options are (for me). I have just been looking at the most recent Tesco magazine, which has full nutritional info for ever recipe. Salmon with strawberry and melon salsa has 6g carbs while summer pea minestrone has 63g carb. Chickpea and rocket salad has 16g carb while turkey meatball laksa has 46g. Hawaiian turkey kebabs (which include pineapple) have 13g carb, but pea and mint falafels have 55g. Essentially things that I might think are 'healthy' (and they undoubtedly are, but just not for me) but which contain flour, rice, wheat are mostly to be avoided.

Sorry if that sounds a bit preachy. And despite knowing all of that I had a disastrous lockdown!!

BestIsWest · 08/05/2021 15:07

@FusionChefGeoff woohoo. What a relief! So glad for you.

Excellent. So I remembered that there was a correlation, but entirely the wrong way round. As Billy Connelly would say thank God you were here Grin

@venusandmars I've never heard of that HS hymn before (or indeed HS) so will definitely check it out. I completely agree with your sentiments about knowing, somehow, that it will be alright in the end and if it's not alright, it's not the end. Don't worry about the sunglasses. As I say, I didn't order them and my immediate thought was anthrax (not that I'm one to catastrophise). They are hilariously bad though.

nowlook · 08/05/2021 15:14

In fact @venusandmars, they put me in mind of an AMAZING FREE GIFT in JustSeventeen back in the day.

Bestbees · 08/05/2021 15:38

@venusandmars that is beautiful! I think I like the JofN quote as there is something about being well that is sort of restful. It's not being joyously happy, or everything turning out well, but more about a place of acceptance which I like. My DH had cancer in his early 20s and people say so much shit! 'at least you're young' 'what doesn't kil you makes your stronger' etc. When someone I know is suffering now I usually go with 'I am so sorry. Life can be shit' and go from there. You don't always want motivational bollarks.

On that note @FusionChefGeoff I am please to hear all is well with you.
