I'm starting a Follow on thread for Week 1 as we've been so busy chatting and supporting each other, while there is still space to link to it on the first thread Smile

Just trying to catch up on the chat ( gosh , there’s a lot )
Pic of the cute black sheep we have in the back field ( not ours luckily , their owners rent the land , and the sheep kindly keep the grass down and look sweet . Whilst they’re not looking for a way to die )

@Thinnerlikeachickendinner we had courgette fritters too. So yum! Added goats cheese, mint and chilli.

Oh god, yesterday just felt like a binge fest. I couldn’t stop eating. I woke at 4am for no reason and couldn’t sleep again so I got up at 5.

Had bacon eggs and tomato for breakfast at 7
Went to hot yoga- yoga- so happy about that! In an actual hot room and everything!
On way home popped into Lidl for bits.
Ate some mozzarella and chorizo.
Lunchtime I had a pork chop and some salad.
Met friends for a walk. Had a few spoons of their Thai veg stew and a papaya salad. I did eat half a spring roll too, which is not on plan.
Then came home and ate courgette fritters sauerkraut pork skewers and more salad.

It felt like I couldn’t stop and was endlessly hungry. Any advice?

My reflections are- I should have drunk more water and take a thermos of herb tea. Perhaps I would have eaten less. We also ate much later than normal- 8.30 rather than 6 so maybe I was over hungry. But what about the ‘three meals by midday’ start. Advice welcome. I’m 5 ft 2 have 4.5 stone to lose and a long history of failure.

Angliski · 17/04/2021 08:48

@Doilooklikeatourist cute sheep. We have a dearth of sheep but we do have two seagulls we like to feed in our back garden. If you don’t leave them any leftovers they peck at the back door to remind you!

MotherBuckets · 17/04/2021 08:52

Morning all. Very jealous of all the trips out - we're all self isolating after DH and I tested positive on Monday. This was 3 short days after coming out of self isolation for DS' positive result on 29th March so am going a bit stir crazy now...

Angliski · 17/04/2021 08:56

@prettybird snap- this was me yesterday- hitting the deli section hard. When tired it’s always worse for me. Today is a new day!

@BIWI thanks for your response - just caught up on end of last thread. Baby downstairs with daddy- bliss!

prettybird · 17/04/2021 09:05

@Angliski - today is a new day Thanks Water, water, water!!!!

Yesterday was better for me and I managed to keep my water intake up. Rewarded this morning on the scales as they're showing a 3lb loss for the week Smile(but I did have a rapid increase of my glycogen stores from the week before to release Blush).

I think you answered your own question about the 3 meals a day: you ate too late, so you gave Kathy Twat an opportunity to whisper in your ear. You're probably not yet ketogenically adapted, so the regular meals are important. I've been doing this a long time so don't have that excuse Blush

One of the things that I've found useful about this thread is that it provides an approach that doesn't require me to start losing weight immediately. In the first instance its about getting into the habit of eating a different range of foods, doing it relatively mindfully and drinking enough water. Then I think you can start to observe the changes that creates in your body and work out how to optimise the changed way of eating for your personal weight loss.

Normally when I start 'dieting' (that's a grand name for it because I have never approached it systematiclly) I just try to eat as little as possible and look for a weight loss almost immediately. I'll get a gratifying loss, and then after a day or two I will gorge myself, become demoralised and give up.

I'm dumping all this out on the thread because I want to send a message to me-in-a-few-hours when I will probably have weighed myself in the gym and found little or no loss. This post is a marker that I can come back to, to telll me that doesn't matter at all.

Figrus2 · 17/04/2021 09:19

I'm finding it hard to reach my water targets but am achieving them. I'd forgotten how nice mushroom shop, cauliflower rice and halloumj are i plan to buy celeriac today and do roasted leek tossed in butter and cream.

Jollyholibobs · 17/04/2021 09:19

Happy Birthday @BrassicaBabe

Lovely sunny day here and a pair of wild ducks visiting our pond. Lovely to see. One year there were ducklings. Have kept it quiet as DH would chase them off as they make even more mess in the garden than my chickens.

Busy day planned here. DS going back to Uni tomorrow and various things that he has had all Easter break to do need doing today. Partly because easing of lockdown means shops etc are open now. Cut his hair last night. I thought he’d only asked me to do it as the barbers were shut but I obviously didn’t make too bad a job last time and obviously I’m free.

I need to get a bit more focus on BC. You are all doing so well. I am sliding out of maintenance into the need to lose weight again and feeling like I am getting out of control. Big stick is needed. Overwhelmed by urge to eat a bowl of breakfast cereal mid afternoon all week. But bored with work atm is half the trouble.

Today’s food
B - black coffee (long term 16:8 er)
L - green veg soup + avocado with salad
D - pan fried cod, celeriac chips, flgv

Figrus2 · 17/04/2021 09:27

Are homemade sauerkraut or kefir allowed?

Momsincharge · 17/04/2021 09:32

I bought swede thinking it could be a good mash potato replacement. I’ve just googled the carbs for 100 grams of various tubers:
Potato 19.36
Celeriac 9.2
Swede 8.13
Sweet potato 20.12
Carrots 9.58
Parsnips 17.99

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/04/2021 09:41

Good morning all, I’m working this morning and then hopefully going to see my sister for the first time in a long time, at last I’m allowed to travel outside my area and she lives by a beach, so even better.

Food today

B. Greek yoghurt
L. Omelette with whatever is in the fridge
D. Not sure yet, possibly a barbecue type dinner eg burgers, sausages and lots of salad if we eat at my sisters, if we’re home I’ll try the chicken Alfredo recipe.

@Angliski I sometimes have hungry days, as long as it’s low carb and you’re eating because you’re actually hungry I wouldn’t worry too much. Sounds like there was a big gap between lunch and dinner though, so maybe taking a small snack to keep you going if dinner is going to be late might help?

Random789 · 17/04/2021 09:41

I love swede. I wish it was easier to peel and chop. It's like chopping logs. An axe would be better than a knife. (Are their kitchen axes?)

debka · 17/04/2021 09:43

Good morning all!
Regarding bleeding on low carb- I've experienced this too. My periods were so heavy when I started LCHF a few years ago that I actually expelled my coil. They did settle down after a while, but it's definitely a thing.
Lovely run this morning in the sunshine, although my boyfriend pointed out I have caught the sun- at 7:30am in April!! Must start wearing SPF for my morning runs!!
B- buttery eggs
L- probably broccoli soup
D- Bolognese sauce with green beans
SUPER EXCITED FOR HAIRCUT TONIGHT!!!!!

nowlook · 17/04/2021 09:46

@Random789 Great post earlier about this woe vs diets. That's exactly the right mindset (but sometimes hard to maintain because of years of dieting).

Nothing stopping you going to the beach @Rshard. If you set off now, you could be in Skeggy for (late) lunch GrinGrin

Are those UK or US carb counts? The US adds in fibre to their carb count Confused - hence the frequent reference to "net carbs", minus the fibre why not just count it minus the fibre in the first place Hmm

Sainsbury's only has swedes neeps as 4.8g/100g Confused

@ouchmyfeet

How I know that feeling of not wanting to discuss my 'avoirdupois' with anyone.

My way now to just to smile briskly if anyone asks me about my weight, even if they are congratulating me and agree that my weigh does tend to fluctuate and not engage further.

Promising Young Woman on Sky

Saw this last night and loved it.

@venusandmars oh, yes, I find that sugar is my usual rush to the loo cue. raw cabbage / spinach / celeriac keep me once a day regular

Lost more thread for me to read but got to rush now. I've signed up for a local walk and prefer it to anything else about from this thread. Laters.

This is also me 100% and I'm still struggling with this mindset. Came very close to going off-plan last night but managed to limit it to one unit of neat gin (I know BIWI I know Sad) for which I've woken up with a headache... that'll teach me.
Brunch; bacon eggs mushrooms
D aubergine fried with tom sauce (with small amount onion in), mozzarella. green salad.

Really want to do some gardening but can't cos back is f*cked.

Where did you get those carb counts from, @Momsincharge? They seem very high for celeriac and swede - are they American/including fibre?

Sainsbury's website (which is my 'go-to) has celeriac at 2.2g per 100g and swede at 4.8.

prettybird · 17/04/2021 10:03

@BIWI - good morning Smile

Hope you don't mind me starting the follow-on thread. Temporarily being given custody of the Big Stick at the start of the Week 1 thread went to my head Grin

Seriously though, just wanted to ensure that the overflow thread could be linked to from the original Week 1 thread before it was full up. Halo

Just done a yoga video and thought it was just perfect so sharing here** with love. Adriene even tells you to drink lots of water at the end Grin Hopefully the link will work, it's the 19 minute full body flow.

BIWI · 17/04/2021 10:06

Morning all - thanks for the new thread @prettybird! And sorry for absence. Yesterday was a busy day for the first time in weeks! In the morning had my appointment for my eyelash and eyebrow tint, so I now have eyelashes and eyebrows! It makes such a difference to how I look - when they fade (and with the growing number of white eyebrow hairs Angry) I look really washed out.

Then met up with my ex-business partner and one of her friends' dog, a beautiful Samoyed, for a walk up on Wimbledon common. We rambled around for over three hours Shock. Then it was time to come home and we had our usual Friday evening zoom call with some of our best friends.

Thankfully Friday night is takeaway, so didn't have to fit cooking into all of that. And then the evening was TV catch-up night, with The Great British Menu and several episodes of Parks & Recreations which DS1 has got us in to.

So no time for MNetting!

Shortly have to go to my Chinese class (i.e. go upstairs to my office for a zoom call!) so won't be able to catch up with the thread till later.

Oh, except to say a couple of things before I do:

  • welcome back @ShagMeRiggins! Grin
  • and to echo @AthelstaneTheUnready, to all the lurkers, it's definitely not obligatory to post to stay on Bootcamp Grin - I'm just always aware that if it seems like it's always the same group of people posting, that it can seem very cliquey, and that's the last thing I want it to be.

Beautiful day here - hopefully warming up a little bit?

Laters ...

@VeryLittleOwl @BrassicaBabe it struck me after reading the article just how lucky the animals born at our local farm park are, in comparison. I like a Herdie but yours look lovely

@MrsKoala I saw a great looking rooftop bar in Hastings on IG this week. Only wish we were closer

Had roast chicken, celeriac mashed with spinach, leek and garlic and some buttery broccoli last night. Delicious! Not sure what the plan is for today

Have a lovely day everyone

Angliski · 17/04/2021 10:10

@prettybird @Random789 @Jellycatspyjamas appreciate the feedback. I’ve done this before and I know how astonishing it is when true appetite emerges from the gloom and is surprisingly modest. The hungry day just caught me and yes, I was out, with no snacks, for longer than was helpful.

Started off with a smoked salmon and goats cheese and spinach scramble this am. Plus genmai cha. Have you come across it anyone? It’s roasted rice tea- Japanese and so nutty and delicious! Good for rice addicts among us.... :)

I’ve also managed to channel the baby’s flinging energies into target practice! I’ve made him some box and bucket goals to Chuck stuff into! He is really quite good!
