I'm starting a Follow on thread for Week 1 as we've been so busy chatting and supporting each other, while there is still space to link to it on the first thread Smile

... once I found the right one! Grin

BIWI · 17/04/2021 12:23

Actually, that's a job for me to do unless anyone else fancies it? to go through the counts on the spreadsheet and make sure that they reflect what's on the official list.

nowlook · 17/04/2021 12:25

Leafing through the User Guide as you do, I think the difference could be that the dataset (and Sainsbos) deals in "available carbohydrates", rather than "carbohydrate by difference". I'm not an expert, but it appears that celeriac may have some carbs that are not nutritionally available to us, so don't count. What do you think @StuntNun?

nowlook · 17/04/2021 12:28

I was actually wondering whether it was technically possible to order the columns by carbs and then, erm, export the data for our use, but I can't work spreadsheets. If only we had a resident expert...

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/04/2021 12:49

Show us yer bracelet then jellycats grin I'd love willowy limbs which would support stacked bangles. I end up looking like a newborn with an identity bracelet.

Your wish is my command, it’s a white gold bracelet from McIntyres (for the Glasgow folk among us) which my DH bought for our silver wedding, 3 years ago. I kept meaning to have more links fitted but never got round to it, I’ll just slim into it instead. Excuse the old wrinkly hands.

Lol, MrsKoala re the Fight Like a Knight approach to swede preparation. Grin
Googling this morning led me to a lifehack that claimed you could microwave a swede for 20 mins and then just scoop out the cooked flesh. Hmm, perhaps. Or perhaps there would be a massive explosion. Has anyone tried this?

StuntNun · 17/04/2021 12:57

Probably the most official source of food values is the USDA which lists celeriac as 7.4g per 100g. It will vary between different vegetables though depending on how they were grown, how ripe they are, when they were harvested etc.

MrsKoala · 17/04/2021 12:57

I tried it and it’s never worked for me, the swede just became slightly less like a rock. I ended up putting it back in till it’d had 40 mins then I chopped it up and finished it in the steamer for another 20 mins.

venusandmars · 17/04/2021 13:02

When we got a cannonball swede in our veg box, I enlisted dh's help to chop it into quarters. I microwaved it then boiled it then roasted it. Still hard!

Dontbugmemalone · 17/04/2021 13:02

I hope it's not too late to join this thread/bootcamp.

I've started fast800 several times but can't seem to make past 3 days.

I was slim before lockdown and have now gained almost 11kgs.
I need to shift this weight as I feel very unhealthy. I am anaemic and with the weight combined, I feel exhausted most of the time.
I am also vegetarian but eat eggs so am hoping to get the majority of protein from.
Any tips are welcome Smile.

Breakfast: greek yogurt with blueberries, strawberries and a small amount of flaxseed.

Lunch will be 2 fried eggs with loads of lettuce and cucumber.

nowlook · 17/04/2021 13:09

Oh, that's beautiful @Jellycatspyjamas! And a very belated happy silver wedding anniversary!

Welcome @Dontbugmemalone Smile. You're certainly not alone in your lockdown efforts . Best thing to do is to read through the 10 rules of bootcamp and other amazing information on the spreadsheet then just jump in! You'll not be able to have your berries for the first couple of weeks, but there's so much inspiration on the threads and the stickied recipes that you'll find plenty to choose from.

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/04/2021 13:16

Thank you @nowlook, it literally fastens and no more, I’m hoping I’ll see a difference over boot camp, I’ve clothes I’m checking against too but I’d love to be able to wear this bracelet without looking like a newborn with an identity tag - excellent expression btw.

Not too late at all @Dontbugmemalone I’ve joined in week 5/6 before and really felt the benefit of group support.

Oneborneverydecade · 17/04/2021 13:21

@Angliski how old is your baby?

@MotherBuckets wishing you a speedy recovery

@MrsKoala I don't think it's new after all? The Sussex Exchange. The terrace looks fab for a sunny summer afternoon

I've bought quite a few new clothes in the Warehouse (seemingly continuous) sale since losing weight. Trouble is I think my excitement at fitting into them clouded my judgement and now I can wear them in public I'm not sure I want too. Oops

Case in point today's leather look paperbag waist shorts. Hmmm

Momsincharge · 17/04/2021 13:38

Thanks @nowlook! Even better news.

VeryLittleOwl · 17/04/2021 13:51

I've discovered a downside to losing weight - my sheep now have more of a weight advantage when it comes to catching them! Ii've got one who's lame on a front leg and I need to have a look at her, but even though I managed to catch her with the crook this morning, I couldn't bring her to a stop and she just wriggled out of it and took off on three legs. Going to have to bribe her, very slowly, down the road to the communal sheep fank, where I can get her into a very small pen and see what's up.

Did three hours at my friend's farm this morning, cleaning out dog kennels and sheep pens while she and her husband put out all the twins born overnight, and managed to refuse (a) instant porridge (b) KitKats and (c) Wotsits. Came home for lunch and stuffed myself with sprouts mashed with butter, covered with grated cheese. Loaded celeriac chips for supper, I think.

BIWI · 17/04/2021 13:58

For a minute there @VeryLittleOwl I forgot you were talking about sheep and wondered what on earth they were doing putting newborn twins outside Shock Grin

Welcome @Dontbugmemalone!

I'm a fan of the Fast800 but it does take some serious commitment. Hopefully you'll find Bootcamp easier to stick to. You should find that it is easier because one of the key benefits of low carbing is appetite suppression. After the first week or two you will really feel the difference - you may even forget to eat at mealtimes! (I know, I didn't ever believe that either, but it's true!)

There are plenty of vegetarian recipes stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic which hopefully will help and inspire you.

Unfortunately fruit isn't allowed in the first two weeks of Bootcamp although, as you're a vegetarian you are allowed nuts/seeds. Check out the vegetarian Bootcamp rules on the spreadsheet . (I hope that link works, as I know we've had some issues with it!)

Angliski · 17/04/2021 14:57

Dontbugmemalone · 17/04/2021 15:08

Thank you for kind welcome messages. I will start tomorrow properly then, without fruit (whoops). Thank you for you the links too, I will be reading them today.

I'll treat today as a practice run 😁.

prettybird · 17/04/2021 15:17

Public service word of warning to those that are buying/going to buy the Lidl Authentic Greek yoghurt: they mix the full fat and the zero fat tubs on the same display tray on the shelves Shock So if you pick up two, assuming the 2nd one will also be full fat (all dark blue), it might not be Shock Fortunately I noticed the little pink roundel with "0% Fat" before I went through the check out Grin

BestIsWest · 17/04/2021 15:18

Thank you @BIWI - They don’t seem to have a website but I will take a photo of the menu. I thinkI’ll be safe with the salt and pepper ribs as they are dry and come with fresh veg. I’ll be happy with a large salad with them.

BestIsWest · 17/04/2021 15:21

Also can I have coconut milk? It’s a nut isn’t it so that means no I guess. It’s 1.7g carbs per 100.

nowlook · 17/04/2021 15:30

@BestisWest

According to the fancy dataset, your best takeaway options to have with your ribs at the Chinese (based on representative samples) are:

Beef stir fry with green peppers and black bean sauce (2.7g/100g)
Szechuan prawns with vegetables (2.5g)
Chicken satay (3g)
Crispy Duck (0.3g)
Egg fu yung (2.5g)

Enjoy!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/04/2021 15:30

@nowlook

Ok, I can relax *@Momsincharge and @BIWI*. The McCance and Widdowson dataset has it at 2.3g (raw) and 1.9g (boiled)

LINK FOR GEEKS

That's fabulous, and I've nicked it for the sheet, ta!
