This is the full list of those who have signed up. Hopefully you're all on The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (unless you said you didn't want to be!

Remember, weighing in tomorrow is not part of this week, although if you want to, you can put your weight in the 'original start date/weight' columns

Thanks must go, as always, to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for setting up the spreadsheet. You'll see this time that we've amended it slightly so that you can record loss for this Bootcamp as well as since you started, for those of you who started earlier.

If your name isn't on the spreadsheet, don't panic! Just add it to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that later.

If you are on the spreadsheet, but don't want to be, send me or Athelstane a PM and we'll remove you.

Whatever you do, don't touch the blue cells!

If you're using a mobile to access the spreadsheet, you'll need to download the Google Sheets app.

@Howdidthathappen1

Not read through whole thread but I've spent the last week practicing lc whilst eating all the Xmas leftover crap which is safely now gone! So I made what I thought would be a good soup today - leek, white cabbage, a head of broccoli and a bag of spinach with a dollop of cream cheese and large handful of cheddar. Was feeling all smug til I entered it into my fitness pal and it had 17g of carbs in one sitting which upset me! I need to knuckle down and get to grips this week im just struggling a bit as I've spent so long eating loads and loads of veg.
Are you sure, How?

MFP is notorious for dodgy carb counts for vegetables. What did it tell you for each veg?

Also, @BIWI will be along shortly to tell you that it's not no carb, it's low carb, and... etc etc.

Almahart · 11/01/2021 19:54
I’m also a cauliflower devotee. I found this recipe the other day which I’m very curious about. Slow cooked cauliflower with yogurt. Has anyone happened to try this? www.rivercottage.net/recipes/slow-cooked-cauliflower-with-yoghurt
Ooh that looks delicious.

Can someone remind me about cornflour - would it be okay for BC light?

BIWI · 11/01/2021 19:54

@Pandoraslastchance

B-none as home educating Sad L-pork chops with spring greens fried in butter T-Butter chicken and remaining spring greens

4 pints of sugar free squash so far today.

Just be aware @Pandoraslastchance that when we go into Bootcamp proper next week, sugar-free squash won't be allowed, because of the artificial sweeteners.

@AlthelstaneTheUnready I cant unpick it properly as I added as a recipe but apparently 100g spinach is 4g and I used 3 x that, white cabbage at 200g is 9g carbs and a whole stalk of broccoli on mfp is 20g. No idea if those measurements are correct but I'm gutted as it was really good soup

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/01/2021 20:22

That's most definitely not right. I think that's US carb counts, where they count the fiber as carb. In the UK we don't, as it's not digested.

Spinach, for example, is under 1g carb per 100g. Cabbage is about 3, leeks a bit less, and broccoli about 1, from memory.

Check on the veg counter tab on the spreadsheet if you want to find out more precisely. But it's nowhere near that much!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/01/2021 20:25

And even if it was...!

17g carb per meal is absolutely fine! Even if you had that at each meal - and it sounds perfect with all that green veg - you'd still be under 60g carbs per day, which is classed as very low carb.

You're doing this exactly right.

Honestly, ditch the MFP (it's NOT your pal) and listen to BIWI.

pelosi · 11/01/2021 20:27

Hi everyone, I've been finishing off carby food this past week and have resisted buying more.

Does anyone know if Tesco's marinated artichokes are low carb? It looks like artichokes are lowish )10g per 100g) but wondered if the marinade increases the carb.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/01/2021 20:28

Oh, and a rough rule of thumb for everyone - It Is Not Possible To Overdo The Green Veg.

Seriously.

Pile it high.

Swim in it.

You cannot physically eat enough green veg in one day to mess up this diet. And yes, I double dare you to try. But you can't. Grin

this says it's 2.4g, if that's what you have? Sounds good.

Hi all just checking in. Been LCHF for 2 weeks now -7lbs. Tracking everything on MFP at moment as it’s alien to me I’m used to low fat so mind boggling how this works.

Today’s meals:
B: olives
L: red pepper and feta frittata with salad dressed in garlic oil
D: chicken tikka masala with spring greens in butter followed by 2 squares of 75% dark chocolate (which I know has to go in bootcamp)
Various glasses of water and coffee with almond milk
I’ve noticed that despite having lost some weight I’m looking very bloated at the stomach wondering if it’s all the green veg?

Midlifemission · 11/01/2021 20:35

@NelAntarctic sympathies on the abscess I had similar in the run up to Christmas and took antibiotics without any issues.

Howdidthathappen1 · 11/01/2021 20:36

Omg I feel so much better about that now!! I'm gonna swim in green soupGrin
I think ditching my mfp addiction is gonna be just as hard as ditching carbs- but thats sealed the deal that it needs to go

prettybird · 11/01/2021 20:39

This was my supper tonight: shepherds pie with shoogled sprouts. The shepherd's pie was made with a small amount of left over roast lamb minced and cooked with a sofrito of blitzed shallot, carrot and leek plus the left over lamb jus, can of tinned tomatoes and a very generous glug of Worcestershire sauce. It was then topped with cooked celeriac (small amount: left over from making celeriac dauphinoise yesterday) and most of a head of cauliflower (both cooked in the microwave until very soft) which were then blitzed in the food processor with an egg, grated Parmesan, a good slug of double cream and some fresh nutmeg.

It was lush Smile

It certainly helped get my veg count up Grin

Do watch out for MFP - a lot of data is user-entered and from the US, meaning it's calculated differently (they include fibre, we don't). You can get raw food counts from the spreadsheet, or check the back of anything in a jar or packet.

As for the stomach... @StuntNun is the expert in the processes, but it can be something to do with having one collection of gut bacteria for the diet you have been on, collectively going WTF?! at increased levels of veg. Within days/a week, you'll have a changing collection of gut bacteria that's better at veg, and it will all calm down again.

On the plus side, the better-at-veg bacteria ALSO increase the amount of serotonin the gut produces. So not only will you unbloat a bit, you'll feel inordinately happy about it. Smile

That cauliflower dip looks lovely Lyrata like a low carb hummus.

It's impossible to eat your weight in eggs Definitely the most I've ever managed in a day is nine. Confused

WitchWand · 11/01/2021 20:49

Hi Everyone,
Great to read you all. I knew that the thread was going to move fast - and wow !! This is definitely going at breakneck speed already Grin !

I've just finished work so I'm going to start by thanking you both for all your time and efforts BIWI and AthelstaneTheUnready getting this show on the road !

Looking forward to catching up. Grin

Thanks @AthelstaneTheUnready, must get used to googling groceries, as I don't online shop.

It was this one, which says it's 3.6 per 100g.

Motivateinmotion · 11/01/2021 21:06

Thanks @AthelstaneTheUnready I await the serotonin and flatter stomach! How do people get by not using MFP? I find it useful just to keep a log/tally of what I’ve had as I’d also gorge and overeat and don’t want to end up gaining weight. I’m excited about this WOE and already feel better for LC but I’m scared of all the fat

I think (am not sure) @BIWI draws a line round about 3g carb per 100g. As in - under 3g and eat as much as you can fit in. Between about 3 and 5g, still good, just don't go crazy with it.

As it's artichokes, I would guess you're going to be quite careful with portions anyway, because .

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/01/2021 21:11

I used to feel the same @Motivateinmotion , but honestly, if you stick to the rules it does work. No need to track anything, no need to go hungry, no need to eat tasteless, low-fat anything. In my first Bootcamp I lost 13lb in my first two weeks, I couldn't believe it!

BIWIs spreadsheet, that she linked up top!

It's not just for admiring your weight in.

There are all sorts of tabs with recipes, conversion counters, meal plans, etc. One of those tabs is a carb counter for veg, not so much so that you can keep count, as to give you an idea of what's in the all-you-can-eat categories.

The point about following BIWI's rules, is that you don't have to count calories, just follow the rules. Do keep a note of what your meals are, by all means, so that you can track whether you truly are eating a FuckLoadGreenVeg (FLGV) and some protein every day, but seriously, the micro-calorie counting isn't needed.

Fat doesn't make you fat, either. Eating a lot of fat WITH a lot of carbs will. But reducing carbs and continuing with the fat won't. Check out the 'low carb resources' tab on the spreadsheet, where there are loads of links explaining the science behind this.

Lolojojonesi · 11/01/2021 21:24

Just added my name to the bottom of the list. Looking forward to it - thanks Biwi and Athelstane!

@Howdidthathappen1

Athelstane is absolutely right on both counts! MFP is notoriously unreliable with its figures. But even if they were right, 17g carbs for a meal really isn't that bad.

We're not doing keto, or Atkins induction - which would mean we're looking to stay under 20g per day!

Great weight loss! But as I've posted above, you really, really, really don't need to track things on MFP. Firstly, because on Bootcamp we don't do that - the whole idea about it is that it's easy to do, so no counting carbs or calories. And secondly, because MFP is notoriously unreliable.

I’ve noticed that despite having lost some weight I’m looking very bloated at the stomach wondering if it’s all the green veg?

Could be your guts getting used to it - but if you are bloated, then try drinking more water.

Well done on the loss so far!
