This is the full list of those who have signed up. Hopefully you're all on The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness (unless you said you didn't want to be!

Remember, weighing in tomorrow is not part of this week, although if you want to, you can put your weight in the 'original start date/weight' columns

Thanks must go, as always, to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready for setting up the spreadsheet. You'll see this time that we've amended it slightly so that you can record loss for this Bootcamp as well as since you started, for those of you who started earlier.

If your name isn't on the spreadsheet, don't panic! Just add it to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that later.

If you are on the spreadsheet, but don't want to be, send me or Athelstane a PM and we'll remove you.

Whatever you do, don't touch the blue cells!

If you're using a mobile to access the spreadsheet, you'll need to download the Google Sheets app.

Why not give it away? We have a neighbourhood WhatsApp group currently taking donations of things like this to give as a gift to nurses/doctors/clinic workers at the local hospital, to thank them for everything they're doing right now
Blush @BIWI this is why I’m in this mess, exhaustion mixed with all the lovely donations we had at my hospital. We got more than 5000 Easter eggs in May... we only have 2,400 staff and some of them are working from home so those of us in the hospital are increasing in size (although we do burn quite a bit off Grin). I’m sure your local hospital will be very grateful.

BIWI · 11/01/2021 09:43

@CisMyArse

Crikey BIWI, I'm humbled by all of this. I've browsed your threads for a few weeks - 3.5 stone overweight and increasing pressure on 2 bulging discs- I'm literally too much in pain to go running.

The efforts you go to, to support us has humbled and empowered me. Thank you.

In preparation for this, I eliminated all sugar from my diet from Jan 1 and cut out all alcohol. Next week I'm kicking out the carbs.

Again, thank you.

Good luck everyone 👊

Sorry to hear about the pain. But don't worry about the lack of exercise. You don't need to exercise to lose weight. According to Dr Jason Fung, writer of The Obesity Code, weight loss is 95% diet and 5% exercise.

That's not to say that exercise isn't good for us, but as a tool to lose weight it's not the most effective.

And as I've said to others, remember that we're not kicking out all carbs. This is a low carb diet not a no carb one - you will be eating carbs in the form of veg/salad.

Thank you for your nice words! Flowers

Hah, yes, I did think about that after I'd posted it! Maybe foodbanks would be a better place? At least the chocolates can be mixed in with other types of food.

By the way ...

Here's a thread of FAQ about low carbing which might be helpful

OP posts:
Lyrata · 11/01/2021 09:46

Ah I just typed and lost a long message. Oh well!

@Jollyholibobs - that tart looks AMAZING and good luck with LC. I also find that this WOE stops me from binging.

Yesterday I had one last treat of cauliflower buffalo wings with creme fraiche and hot sauce (plus most of a bottle of cremant...) I knew I had overeaten because I felt so full but I stopped without descending into entirely feral behaviour - which would have been unheard of before this.

@AthelstaneTheUnready - massive good luck with giving up smoking. I gave up over a year ago now and I rarely think about them anymore. I probably get one moderate surge of cravings once a month - but the memory of the weeks after I quit when I would spend hours literally grinding my teeth because of how badly I wanted one is enough to convince me it would not be worth it. It’s so difficult but so worth it - fingers crossed that you get through the cravings and that lockdown helps keep you away from temptation.

I did weigh in yesterday (before the cauliflower feast) and I am 9 stone 9 at 5’6”. I’ve been low carbing for about four months now and I think I’ve lost a little under two stone. I was too frightened to weigh myself at the start. I began the last Bootcamp at just under 11 stone so I am delighted to see a 9 at the start of my weight now. I’m aiming to lose 9lbs this Bootcamp to get to 9 stone and then learn how to maintain my weight there.

Today my food will be:
Breakfast: coffee with double cream
Lunch: chicken, bacon and mushroom soup with a base of cauliflower (photo of my batch cook attached!)
Dinner: chicken thigh + roasted aubergine, courgette and cherry tomatoes

Looking forward to meeting you all and getting inspired by your food!

BIWI · 11/01/2021 09:47

@Lyrata what's so wrong with the cauliflower wings?

OP posts:
Lyrata · 11/01/2021 09:50

@BIWI - just the quantity and the fact I had the cremant. I probably didn’t need to eat an entire cauliflower...

(But yes it is ultimately a lovely vegetable and good to eat - although my teenage self would be horrified to know I’d even considered it)

BIWI · 11/01/2021 09:56

Did you put the recipe on the recipe thread, by the way? I'd love to give them a go - even without the Cremant!

Happy New Year all!
I was able to limit the damage over christmas as I was mindful of the effort it would take to lose it again, so stayed the same into the New Year.

But having also gone dry in January I've found myself reaching for snacks in the evening as a treat to make up for not having wine, accompanied by the enevitable weight creep.

I'm so pleased to have this new thread to make me accountable and be stop me getting back into bad habits.
Thanks @Biwi and @AthelstaneTheUnready for doing this, it provides the motivation to sooo many to make a postive change in these testing times.

We've got a disgusting amount of chocolate left over from Christmas. I've just eaten a Lindt Santa to try to make a dent, but there's SO MUCH.

Very good idea. Just need to put it to the kids...

ChristMyArse · 11/01/2021 09:58

Can I just as about teapots - can I have the apple and cinnamon one in the first two weeks? Know it's daft but I'd rather know 😳😂

Also - creamy coffee.. I've been reading posts where people are having it as a breakfast alone, but also as a "snack". If I want one should I just have it for breakfast.

Good luck guys - we are going to nail this!!

ChristMyArse · 11/01/2021 09:58

Teapigs not teapots!

Don't know about the teapigs as I don't drink those.

But re the creamy coffee, we don't recommend those in place of breakfast, as there's really not that much nutrition in there. If you want one as a snack, that's fine. Just remember that there will still be carbs in the cream (albeit less than in milk), so go easy on them!

@Frty

Thank you BIWI and Athelstane! Never low-carbed in my life, I normally need to absolutely starve myself to lose weight (peri-meno) so am intrigued to see if this works better for me. I've read quite a lot of research on the effect of insulin in middle-aged women and am certainly convinced by the science.
I'm post-menopause, & lost a stone last year with this WOE. Nothing else has worked.

💪

BIWI · 11/01/2021 10:04

Teapigs nutritional info here

Trace carbohydrate, so you should be fine.

The one question I (currently) have (there will be more Grin) is about electrolytes. I try not to cook with salt because I’ll have a baby and 3 year old eating the same food. So, other than adding salt to my plate, what’s a good way to keep electrolytes up? Are the zero drink supplements a good idea?

plumstone · 11/01/2021 10:18

Hello - so pleased to have found you!! Please can I be added to the spreadsheet. Haven't weighed myself and will venture onto the scales tomorrow!!!

Moved to Scotland on the 19th December - arrived at the airport just as Boris announced the London Lockdown, which was a relief. Have eaten and drunk with far too much free reign over the last three weeks, and am now back in the right frame of mind. Have my birthday this week, and by Friday the final Christmas food will be gone. Lots of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon back on the menu!! Need to see a 10 on the scales by Easter - which is when I will hopefully see people again!!

kobo everyone!!

Ninkanink · 11/01/2021 10:18

Hi all!

Flowers to everyone and wishing us all a great start to bootcamp!

Thank you to those of you who have a part in running it.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 11/01/2021 10:21

Hello again lovely people! I've not weighed as my one week off became nearly 3 so I'm being very strict this week to pretend I havent gained any weight next Monday.

I've just had a close family member announce engagement so will be using that as motivation as the only photos from weddings I have ever liked have been from my own!

Also hoping to get back to work this year after 3 years off with the babies so feeling more confident will be good for interviews etc.

I did a massive slow cooked lamb leg yesterday so that will feature heavily for the next couple of days. Lunch will be lamb and feta veg salad.

I was told off another poster to have half a teaspoon of salt in water twice a day. I can confirm this works as I've been dehydrated drinking 4ltrs of water a day and I feel much better now I'm doing this!
prettybird · 11/01/2021 10:27

My motivation is a very big birthday in April - my 60th Shock - so I'd like to back into a normal BMI by then (which only 15 years ago was my "normal" weight). So at 5'5.5", that means a bit over a stone from where I am now.

I'd like to get to under 10st 7lb, but I'll see how I get on.

I doubt I'm going to be able to have a big party - if we're lucky restrictions might have been relaxed enough to allow a few people around - so at the moment the plan is for dh and me to hold a big joint "Not our 60ths" garden party next summer (he turned 60 year before last but wasn't in a good frame of mind at the time). Smile

That gives me an incentive, if I reach target, to maintain/reduce a bit further for a year Wink

You really do need the salt, so definitely add it to your food and, where possible, cook with it.

The three key electrolytes are sodium, magnesium and potassium. Sodium you can get from salt, obviously. Other things you could do would be to have a hot drink made from Oxo or Bovril or Marmite.

Food sources are definitely better - so things like salmon, avocado, spinach and full fat natural yoghurt are all good.

You could also use Lo-Salt, which is potassium-based.

Otherwise the electrolyte drinks are an option - High5 make one called Zero, and there's also one made by SIS (Science in Sport). Just beware that they use artificial sweeteners. However, if you're really suffering from carb flu then they can be a good short-term help!

Hooray, we're back! I've got the Christmas excess back down to 2.8lbs over where I finished the last boot camp, looking forward to ditching that and more on top of it over the next 10 weeks.

Doilooklikeatourist · 11/01/2021 11:05

@prettybird , it was my 60th last August , luckily I didn't want a party anyway , I did have both grown up DC home and went out for a nice dinner
Still waiting for my weekend away though ( hopefully sometime this year )

Not weighing in today , as I weighed just after new year and I'd put 8lb on , and that weight is NOT going to be written down !

My water tip ... my favourite glass holds 1/4 of a litre , I fill it and stand by the tap while I drink it , then refill and carry on with whatever I was doing
I don't like big glasses unless full of Chardonnay and this helps me

Sausages and mash ( mashless for me ) with loads of veg planned for tonight , and eggs and mushrooms for lunch ( Toast for breakfast , but we are easing in aren't we ? )

Solongsugar · 11/01/2021 11:08

Hello, long time no see ! Can I be added to list please. Last bootcamp kept me very motivated and this time I aim to learn more. Thanks.
