@BIWI thanks I'll try to recreate what I've eaten but I haven't kept a record- although pretty sure I can remember. I will post again very shortly with answers to all your questions! 😊

Laska2Meryls · 14/07/2020 08:43

Ok so Monday eating day results in a 1.5 gain but it could be the half bottle of wine , oops I consumed.. that was more like 'old drinking' and the first ( apart from one glass) in 8 weeks. Cant do that again .. but DH back and we were celebrating .
Well I have a week to repair the damage..
Today 16:8 fasting and lots of water !

Takingontheworld · 14/07/2020 08:43

So.. I'm still bleeding. This doesn't seem right does it? Ive resorted to google and see there is one very small study done which showed some women found Keto screwed their periods, either eliminating them or causing erratic bleeding, but it appears to be a side observation to the studies main focus which was epilepsy in women.

Some articles suggest this will settle down as the months roll on but I have to say I've woken up today feeling like I've been hit by a bus. So drained and just.. meh.

Should i be seeing a dr? Its making me a bit anxious as this WOE makes me feel so much better- no IBS or tender stomach or constant insatiable cravings for sugar and caffeine (in form of chocolate and fizz) so I don't want to stop. I also don't want to be bleeding indefinitely....

My next depo injection isnt due until August but i can't see the point of it if I'm going to start having periods. need to talk to DH about the snip again

StuntNun · 14/07/2020 09:04

How long has it been going on for Taking? Any kind of weight loss can mess with your cycles as oestrogen is released along with body fat.

@AWryGiraffe I joined yesterday too. I'm not veggie but we can keep each other company :-) I'm also trying to lose the toddler baby weight. I've survived day 1 which is often the hardest, and I'm feeling ridiculously pleased with myself, and very impressed with the progress of others on this thread. DH and I treated ourselves to fancy fillet steaks from our wonderful local butcher. Yumm...

Takingontheworld · 14/07/2020 09:26

Today is day 15. Its not heavy but bright red when i wipe and enough for a couple of pantyliners a day. 🤷‍♀️

MrsKoala · 14/07/2020 10:07

Aaaargh just bit into my nut granola and a back bottom right tooth has split down the middle and is flapping off in my mouth. I’m waiting for the dentist to call me back re an emergency appointment. This is actually the second tooth crack due to granola in my life. Angry

SulisMinerva · 14/07/2020 10:54

Ouch, MrsKoala!

Hope you can get an appointment quickly.

filthyanimal · 14/07/2020 11:29

@Takingontheworld
I also experience excessive bleeding on this WOE. I have done a bit of reading around it too, and in a nutshell, oestrogen is stored in the fat cells, so when you're burning fat, as we are, you are also releasing oestrogen, which is responsible for the bleeding.
I've a Mirena coil and bleed probably half the time. I could probably take extra progesterone on top of it in order to suppress the bleeding, but I'm kind of reluctant to do this.
Make sure you're up to date with your smears too, though :)

Rshard · 14/07/2020 11:35

Hello giraffe and mimosa, welcome!

I have no advice taking, but that sounds very gruelling - 15 days.

Ouch mrskoala! Hope the dentist call back soon.

NoraEphronsneck · 14/07/2020 12:10

I had 3 periods in the first six weeks of bootcamp; didn't realise it was due to release of oestrogen but makes sense.

MrsKoala · 14/07/2020 12:35

Got an appointment at 2.30. Just soup for lunch today I think.

I also have horrendous periods that seem heavier when I low carb. I’ve got a copper coil and the dr has suggested a merena one but I’m not sure. I don’t like chemicals that much. But I don’t have sex anyway so I could just have it out completely. I am hoping the menopause is close and I won’t have to worry about it anymore.

Takingontheworld · 14/07/2020 13:58

I shall koko, and reassess in the next 6-8 weeks assuming i don't die of exhaustion before then 😂

Given i almost certainly knocked myself out of ketosis with wine & cake at the weekend you'd think it would have atleast given me a mild break!

8Track · 14/07/2020 14:07

Gosh, sending hugs and hot water bottles to everyone having menstrual issues at the mo.

I've made a new invention - a sort of savoury fish egg omelette - frittata maybe? Yesterday nights leftover fish chunks in lemon butter sauce with courgette, blended with an egg and some ground almonds. Fried up in a small pan - it's all fallen apart (presentation somewhat lacking!) but pretty tasty, and has that bit of crunch to some of the outside which I sometimes miss. Having it with capers and olives.

Breakfast was a coconut oil coffee, half a cucumber sliced and topped with rilletes, and a boiled egg dunked in celery salt.

Dinner will be taco mince in lettuce wraps, with extra mushrooms. Will mash some avocado for guacamole, and have cheese and yoghurt and jalapenos.

Now, can someone stop my boss adding more reports to my to-do list....5 more so far today!

ealingwestmum · 14/07/2020 15:18

Your food choices sound really lovely 8track. My husband tried making eggs Arnold Bennett once. He did a really good job although a little rich for me to eat lots, but it kept well for left overs. Definitely finding a crunch balance is key but a challenge for us at times.

BlusteryShowers · 14/07/2020 16:48

Back on the horse so far this week. Mercifully the scales appear to be coming down a bit too from the weekend.

Main challenge this week will be cooking for just myself as DH is on late shifts. My tendency is to go minimum effort, maximum reward when left to my own devices so it's can danger zone.

Plan so far is a large fish and leek pie with cauli mash topping. I know my 3yo will like that so it will be good for after Nursery and for left overs. I might do a chilli or bun less (for me) cheese burgers as well.

Have switched my salads up a bit this week with some fried halloumi and bacon so that has breathed some life into that as well.

@8track the egg recipe sounds really nice!!

BIWI · 14/07/2020 17:32

Made something absolutely gorgeous the other day (if I do say so myself Grin).

Was making celeriac and leek mash, but felt it was going to be a bit dull - so had a bit of a brainwave and instead, made curried mash.

Boil celeriac as usual till tender, drain and let it steam dry.
Slice your leeks, and pan fry in a load of butter, and then as much curry powder as you like, and plenty of salt and black pepper.
Add to the drained/dried celeriac when cooked and blend/mash together.

Absolutely delicious. And fab served up next day fried in a pan with some bacon and/or a fried egg.

Your tacos sound lovely 8track, as does your ‘concoction’.

Bacon and halloumi on salad is one of my faves blustery, yum!

And that curry mash BIWI, all this food talk is making me hungry!

Mimosa1 · 14/07/2020 18:49

Poor DH is in bed with keto flu. Knock wood I feel fine but don't yet have that "not hungry / don't think about food" which is the loveliest feature of this diet. I could eat a horse, especially after all these lovely food ideas!

devoncreamtea · 14/07/2020 19:08

Finally weighed!!
157.8 so pretty much sts. Period week for me do feeling meh.

On that topic... I’d be tempted to talk to drs Taking just to reassure yourself Flowers

Lush Sounding curried mash! BIWI I love anything Spicy 🌶

MrsKoala · 14/07/2020 19:08

they can’t save the tooth. It has split right down the middle where I’ve had a previous root canal. The dentist removed the half that was hanging off and put a temp filling on but I’ll need an implant. Fuckit. That‘ll be at least a grand then.

I still haven’t thought about dinner. At the moment it’s vodka.

venusandmars · 14/07/2020 20:26

Gosh, sending hugs and hot water bottles to everyone having menstrual issues at the mo

this ^^ and thank goodness for being post menopausal.

OOh BIWI I might make that curried celeriac mash, just so I can have left overs with a fried egg...

kiwi I also have a root canal tooth that has cracked under the pressure of lockdown stress and tooth grinding I'm not sure it's repairable but it's at the side of my mouth so will probably just have an extraction, and leave a gap.

8Track · 14/07/2020 20:46

Ooh BIWI that sounds delish - although I agree with venus, I think I just want it as hash with a fried egg. Hmmm plotting for my celeriac now.....

Thanks for all the kind words about my food blethering. I've taken so much inspiration and motivation from these threads, I like to share so that someone else might see something and think YUM!

MrsKoala · 14/07/2020 21:02

Well I made a soft boiled egg for dinner and my temporary filling has come out. So that was money well spent. Angry
