Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

Grin Gin

Apologies all those who were interested in the style and beauty meet up; I've been completely side-lined by a surprise holiday (ooh what a shame!) and have come back from said holiday to an intensive piece of freelance work, so haven't got round to sorting a date that we can all do. I recognise this means we might have to start again, so mega sorry for that.

@BIWI you deserve every bit of glorious holiday that comes your way Grin and work... well you sometimes have to take it when it arrives.

If the style and beauty thing arrive in the winter, I might even manage to join in.....

Mimosa1 · 23/09/2019 06:39

@SittingontheSidelines how do you manage to chip a celeriac? I bought one and it was like a stone - couldn't really get anywhere with it.

Almahart · 23/09/2019 13:09

Back in there. DH and I have finally decided to separate, it’s been a looong time coming. Have been mostly low carbing but not really posting.

Not very hungry at the moment! Had a smoked haddock and spinach concoction for lunch, will think about dinner later

NigellaAwesome · 23/09/2019 14:12

I'm so sorry to hear that Almahart. Be kind to yourself. Flowers

BIWI · 23/09/2019 16:03

I'm sorry, @Almahart Sad Flowers

Flowers Almahart

I've learned an important lesson about being a carby twat. I was one a couple of times on bootcamp, both planned celebrations, I weighed in 2 or 3lbs heavier the next day, it took 4 days to come back off again.

Turns out that if I go away for a family joint 80th birthday party celebration weekend when I have raging PMT, I turn into the Godzilla of all carby twats. In three days I clocked up cheesy chips, chips with chilli, triple-cooked chips (can you see a theme here...??), homemade butterscotch ice cream, a large strawberries and cream frappacino, a cinnamon bun, a large pack of M&S crisps, a bag of chocolate wafer bites, an eight-pack of triple chocolate cookies and an entire box of M&S biscuits.

I put on 6lbs and a week later only 2lbs of it has come off, though now the hormones are back to normal, it should shift a bit quicker.

Mimosa1 · 23/09/2019 17:59

I'm sorry @Almahart I'm so impressed that you're sticking with the thread and self care during what must be a difficult time Thanks

Notwatchingtvtoday · 23/09/2019 19:37

I’m sorry Almahart be kind to yourself x

MonsteraCheeseplant · 23/09/2019 19:46

Thinking of you Almahart.

Almahart · 23/09/2019 20:09

Thank you everyone. I kind of realised that I needed to be match fit and that if I slid into carbs and wine I would become very anxious and low. I have found this woe vg for energy levels.

Thank you everyone for the good wishes, it really helps Smile

SittingontheSidelines · 23/09/2019 21:57

Sorry @Mimosa1 my secret tequnuque is to give it to dh to doGrin

SittingontheSidelines · 23/09/2019 22:00

@Almahart sorry to hear that. Hope things look up for you. Thanks

Mimosa1 · 24/09/2019 08:03

Well I know from previous BCs that weeks 3 and 4 are slow losing but booooooooo. That is all. Still - better than putting it ON, I suppose.

Lol at the giving DH the celeriac @ShagMeRiggins

ShagMeRiggins · 24/09/2019 12:11

Mimosa1 I think it’s Sitting on the Sidelines who deserves credit for celeriac/husband solution. I continue to recommend a Crinkle Cutter for celeriac.

Almahart I’m really sorry to hear about you and your separation, but being in a similar situation (announced weeks/months ago right here in this Fred) I am all Shock and Envy and Grin and Flowers at your commitment to caring for yourself. WE MUST CARE FOR OURSELVES, especially during times of trouble.

Actually, all the time.

By the way, Mr ShagMe and have still to separate officially. We are really bad at this separation gubbins. Hmm I’m just hanging in with LCHF and am always comforted by reading menus from you lot, which is brilliant, and also the humour.

WATER, anyone...?

Cauliflowerpower · 24/09/2019 14:35

@Alamahart sorry to hear your news. As with any change, especially highly emotional ones, this is the hard bit.... soon, maybe weeks, or in months, this will be your new Normal and it will be good. Hang on in there... sounds like you're being really brave.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning. I've a chest infection so off work today. So had a lie in then packed off husband with the girls for the day and I've lay about on the sofa mostly.

I had an "experiment" with Chaffles this weekend. Can't say I'm a big fan but it might be that Ive not really followed the recipe terrifically.... I made pancakes today that were better. Had one for breakfast and then made a sandwich with 2 bits at lunchtime! Was lovely although (did I mention not great at following instructions) it was a bit thin as I used almond flour instead of coconut...

I don't know why I think I know better when following recipes.... it just comes over me with a bit of "how bad could it be "?

Anyway. I've not drunk any water, better had, antibiotics to take... 😳😷😷😭

SittingontheSidelines · 24/09/2019 15:46

Chaffles?

Cauliflowerpower · 24/09/2019 17:27

A type of low carb waffles.... I don't have a waffle maker tho so just pan fried the mix.

Cauliflowerpower · 24/09/2019 17:29

When I first wrote the post it said I had been experimenting with Charles! Lol that would have been more exciting

Rayna37 · 24/09/2019 17:38

Quick snack of mushrooms and a drizzle of truffle oil fried then put under the grill with an egg and some cheese on top. Easy dinner as DH out until later, would make nice variation on a mushroom omelette for lunch!

Excuse the horrible brown bowl which we refer to as the dog bowls

SittingontheSidelines · 24/09/2019 18:09

experimenting with Charles Grin

And the dogs dinner looks very tempting @Rayna37

I'm having a cottage pie sans topping. Was supposed to be celariac on top but we're back to not finding any. Got some nice courgette in tomato to go with it though and Brussels sprouts.

Almahart · 24/09/2019 22:14

@ShagMeRiggins I remember your announcement very well because I knew our separation was imminent. I don’t think H will be able to move out for months. I don’t really know how that will go but he is a decent person and we have been living as friends for ages so I hope it doesn’t go sour.

Thank you @Cauliflowerpower, we had tried Bridge and hadn’t managed it so this felt inevitable. But I think the reality may not have set in yet.

@Rayna37 that looks amazing!!!

Breakfast was some cheese Hmm as was running late for a long meeting, lunch some fish pie and dinner cauliflower cheese wit some crispy bacon and a small choc pot made with half a square of choc and some double thick cream.

We have a big brand new Aldi opening near us next week which I’m really excited about. The other nearest us is quite tiny. Remind me, what do I look out for? Are the halloumi fries Aldi or Lidl? I know about the healthy Lc snack bars

ShagMeRiggins · 25/09/2019 10:21

I don’t know about specialist products at Aldi but definitely rate their veg, amongst other things. We have one about 20 minutes away and I should shop there more often but am currently stuck in the convenience of Ocado Smart Pass and last-minute deliveries (which is brilliant, I have to say). Must do better this year!

BIWI · 25/09/2019 14:47

The 'Specially Selected' range of ground coffees is very good, and so much cheaper than at Sainsbury's - £1.99 for 200g compared with £3+ for 227g.

Their cheese range is also good, especially their British cheeses - they do a lovely Scottish cheddar, and one called Red Fox, which is a really interesting cheese - looks like Red Leicester but actually tastes of something!

To be honest, I haven't actually had any problems with anything I've bought at Aldi, and having been sufficiently nerdy to compare like-with-like (as far as possible) with what I'd normally buy at Sainsbury's, I reckon that my average weekly shop is around - at least - 30% cheaper.

DH now buys all our wine from Aldi (usually online, but sometimes in store - but even if you only order 6 bottles online they'll deliver for free). And I buy gin there too. Their 'standard' gin (in a square green bottle that sort of emulates Gordon's) is only £14.99 for a litre, and it's an award-winning gin.
