Morning all!

We have four weeks left; time, still, to lose at least another 4lbs or so

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hopefully some good results to report!

Welcome @collywobble!

I'm a newbie just starting boot camp I've done one week and wondered how I know if I'm in Ketosis . I've bought a packet of Keto sticks do I need to be a dark purple on the readout or is a trace okay.

A couple of things. First, you don't have to be in ketosis to lose weight. As long as you're keeping your carbs low enough, you will lose weight.

Second, if you're drinking the amount of water you should be - see rule 6 of the Bootcamp rules (tab on the spreadsheet) - you won't see the ketostix change much, so they're a waste of money

Also I know I have to keep to 20/30 carbs a day but what is the best way to measure this and does this increase after boot camp?

On Bootcamp we don't count carbs. The reason for this is two-fold. First, the whole idea of Bootcamp is that it should be easy to follow. That's why there's no weighing or counting.

And secondly - and more importantly - people have different levels of tolerance for carbs. Some people have to keep their carbs really low to lose weight, others can go higher - so there's no point putting a specific daily carb amount to people.

Just follow Bootcamp rules, especially paying attention to the type of veg you're eating, and you will be fine.

Honestly! Grin

@ilovecherries - now I have a picture of you in my head looking like Dolly Parton!

BIWI thank you for your reply . That makes perfect sense now . I can't believe it's so easy to follow. My appetite already feels under control even after a week which after years of snacking and craving this is quite a revalation!

ilovecherries · 20/02/2018 14:17

BIWI. Well, I have the boobage. And the wigs. So I'm well on my way!

prettybird · 20/02/2018 14:52

On previous threads, there was discussion about insomnia, so when a friend on Facebook posted this link, I thought the Boot Campers would be interested

https://theconversation.com/amp/did-we-used-to-have-two-sleeps-rather-than-one-should-we-again-57806

I've been struggling a bit in recent weeks: my weight loss has stalled, mostly because I relaxed too much after Week 2 and we could move on to Boot Camp Light. I've also been finding it difficult to drink the full amount of water required. But I have FTFI and KOKOed Grin

However, I did take a couple of sneaky measurements refuse to do the full set until I can at least record the same weight as my mid January weight Blush - and at least my waist and boob measurements are showing a reduction Smile

I've been doing the Jillian Michael's DVDs 5 days a week throughout - finished the Shred a couple of weeks ago and have just started Level 2 of Ripped.

.....off to drink some more water Wink

BIWI · 20/02/2018 16:40

I've read that piece before @prettybird and it really resonates with me. I'm definitely in the camp of an initial period of sleep (anything up to 4 hours), being awake for anything up to 2 hours, and then a second period of sleep. In a way I wouldn't mind about that, except the second period of sleep is always interrupted by the need to get up and go to work!

BIWI · 20/02/2018 16:41

I've stopped taking the Nytol, as it wasn't making any difference to my sleep pattern. And I was gutted to find out that being alcohol free didn't make any difference either.

What happens when boot camp finishes? I may be slightly concerned about this...Hmm

Well yesterday I was all on a downer due to the fact some old clothes were a way off fitting, but I've decided to be positive as some do fit again, and well I look alright. Not as slim as I was, but nothing to scare the horses.

I'm defininetly shrinking, but I'm not sure I'll be done in four weeks. Maybe six to eight.

Hence new found anxiety that boot camp closes. I like this thread, it keeps the focus on...😳

Rshard · 20/02/2018 16:46

Thanks prettybird, a really interesting read. I am sleeping badly at the moment, getting off to sleep fine then waking up and struggling to get back to sleep for ages. This is compounded by a 4.30 start once a week when I take dd swimming. Thankfully dh does the other morning but I did this morning after about 3 hours sleep and I’m so tired at the minute!!

BerylStreep · 20/02/2018 17:04

Bluntness there is usually a chat thread in between bootcamps for those who want to continue with the support.

I've just realised that I am inadvertently in to a 28 hour (sort of) fast. Last ate yesterday lunchtime. I've only had a mug of stock and 2 coffees since. Dh & DS have some sort of vomiting bug, and I can't decide if my tummy feels iffy or it is my imagination, but I really couldn't face the thought of any food.

BerylStreep · 20/02/2018 17:12

I've just been having a quick peek at the spreadsheet of fabulousness, and I hope you don't mind me singling you out @Bumblebeef30 and @GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness but you have lost 19 lbs and 22 1/2 lbs respectively on this bootcamp. Way to go!!

BerylStreep · 20/02/2018 17:13

BIWI my DH uses valerian for sleeplessness. Have you ever tried it? He swears by it.

It also makes cats stoned, so doubly entertaining useful

Bluntness100 · 20/02/2018 17:27

Thanks beryl.

Will there be another Bootcamp? Can't it just keep going as new members join and others keep going or drop off?

BerylStreep · 20/02/2018 17:52

Bluntness perhaps BIWI can advise. AFAIK there are usually around 3 bootcamps a year - Jan, May & October(?) which equates to 30 weeks of the year. It does take quite a bit of effort to keep the threads going, so BIWI deserves a break for at least some of the year!

BumbleBeef30 · 20/02/2018 19:10

Thanks, Beryl! I’m pretty amazed by the weight loss, tbh, but I suppose I do have a LOT to lose so it makes sense that it would come off quite quickly.

Plantlover · 20/02/2018 19:11

Those who make the low carb brownies can you tell me about sweeteners?

All those I have looked at have 90 ish carbs per 100g so almost as bad as sugar.

I'm confused!

prettybird · 20/02/2018 19:18

Am going to be breaching Drybruary tonight BlushWine

Ds has just got an Unconditional for Aberdeen for Politics & International Relations. We're still to hear from his 1st choice (Edinburgh) but they are notoriously late to offer, so he says having Aberdeen is a real weight off his mind (already had an Unconditional from Strathclyde but he and I didn't want to go to a home Uni).

We had a bottle of good pink bubbly in the fridge which we hadn't had on Valentine's Day, so we'll crack it open tonight. Smile

Rshard · 20/02/2018 19:24

Congratulations to your ds prettybird! You must be so proud of him! Enjoy your bubbles.

We are also celebrating, our dd has been promoted to the top squad in her swimming club. Having joined the littlest squad age 5, at 12 she is now the youngest in the highest squad in a club that’s produced a current Olympic champion and multiple world record holder. Proud doesn’t even cover it! I’m having a glass of red

littleladylawyer · 20/02/2018 19:26

plantlover I may be wrong but I think the carbs in sweeteners such as stevia are what are known as 'polyols' which are metabolised differently to sugars so should be taken out of the carb count. That's what is says on the back of Atkins bars etc that use sweeteners anyway!

Congrats to Ds pretty- I agree with you both about choosing a uni away from home- far too tempting to come back and have mum do the washing otherwise!!

YoLoHogwomanay · 20/02/2018 19:27

congrats prettybird to your DS. And kudos for all the exercise physical punishment

bluntness there are plenty of us in this for the long haul who will keep an interim thread going between bootcamps.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 20/02/2018 19:28

Thanks beryl :) I too have a lot to lose, so it makes sense it would come off fast to begin with. And I fully expect to languish lots as I get close to target. But I am really pleased. This WOE is magical. I had a tough day at work and stopped for a kebab on the way home as I was too tired to cook. I had chicken shish and salad and no pitta and it is a delicious treat and perfectly compatible with the WOE. I know bumblebeef has said this before but it really is the easiest “diet” I’ve even done.

YoLoHogwomanay · 20/02/2018 19:29

NSV to report. I apparently have shinbones like razor blades. who knew? they've been buried in fat for years. shame about the blancmange thighs

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 20/02/2018 19:30

I think I’d be up for joining a chat thread to help me stay reasonably on track in the interval, and then do another big push on the next bootcamp.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 20/02/2018 19:37

Hi, all. Don't want to just disappear, so here briefly just to say that my cat became seriously unwell over the weekend, has been on a drip at the vets for two days, and is probably not going to get through tomorrow. I'm not feeling very chatty, so will take a break from the thread for a week or two.
Very best wishes to all.
