It's a sort of a extension of Boot Camp for those that are now familiar with this WoE.

So it is continuing the Boot Camp rules for the whole month (so not relaxing the rules on what can be eaten after the first 2 weeks) but cracking down on snacking (even low carb) and allowing Intermittent Fasting (eg missing breakfast). Normally on Boot Camp, eating 3 meals is one of the Rules - but that is to encourage the body to get used to this WoE and not let hunger tempt you with carbs.

BIWI · 29/08/2017 15:58

@Grimbles

SuperStrictSeptember - SSS - is really whatever you want to do, that you know will work!

It's not a formal Bootcamp - that won't start up again until late October. But it may, for you, be Bootcamp. For others it may be introducing/using fasting as well.

The key thing is that it's strict so that it produces results for you.

Grimbles · 29/08/2017 16:16

Thanks pretty and biwi. I'm trying to keep to around 20g carbs a day anyway for this first 2 weeks, I don't think I can cope with less! I may see how long I can continue for though.

Going forward, what is a lchf woe long term, are sweet things completely off the menu? Is the idea to remove 'bad' carbs (rice, bread, etc.) but allowing more carby foods that are currently forbidden? Once the bootcamp part is done can/should I increase the amount of carb I eat slightly?

I get that you put your body in ketosis to switch to burning fat. What happens if you have a lapse, is it just a case of putting your body back into ketosis and going through the carb flu again or are their other effects?

Sorry if these are easy questions that have been asked a million times before.

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 29/08/2017 19:14

@Grimbles posted a link to what happens when you are a carbytwat just a page or so up.

SSS - aim is 10lbs and introduce daily exercise, not randomly oh I do some press ups.

@NOMOREoatcakesandcheese when I added in 10,000 steps in the beginning it caused weeks of stalls, As you already in week 4 give it a couple more weeks to see some NSV and slowly add the exercise to not scare the body into "pack it on, we need loads for new exercise mode".

Also on Saturdays' when I do a 100 mile bike ride I bounce up between 5 to 9 lbs on Sunday, before settling down to the same weight by Friday. This week didn't ride and yesterday saw the 199, a 4lb drop from Saturday, for the first time in 20+ years. So focus on the diet before going gunho and expecting everything to drop twice as fast.

OldBooks · 29/08/2017 19:54

My parents are not getting the hang of lchf at all Grin

They said they would start today, but I found them eating cereal this morning. DF said something about easing into it.

We went shopping and I grabbed loads of veg, cheese, eggs, chicken etc. Also cream and dark choc. DM "see, I can't believe it's a diet if you can have that"

Then DM offered to cook tea. She proudly presented me with chicken thighs, skin on, in a creamy sauce. Then she starts spooning out mash potatoes. "Can you have this?" "Um, no!" They seem to be doing high carb high fat right now Confused

I am back on it after indulgence of last couple of days. Bit headachey which I assume is ketosis re-establishing itself.
B: scrambled egg with goats cheese crumbled in
L: cheese, few slices freshly picked tomato, bit of 'greek yoghurt' (can't get Total here)
T: pepper, onion and courgette with chicken thigh, dark choc with a little cream

Lauralou69 · 29/08/2017 20:01

Have been low carbing on and off for 15 years. Sugar is my issue. Have a stone to lose and will be intermittent fasting once in ketosis. Really struggle with nausea when I.F, any ideas?

ilovecherries · 29/08/2017 20:04

Today is the first day I really noticed how different it feels to be lugging two stone less than normal around with me. Training to be a walk leader volunteer for a cardiac rehab programme and walked 8 miles without feeling it was me who needed cardiac rehab. Tired tonight but not shattered.

It can take a long time for the message to sink in. I refer you to @JiminnyCricket and others who were sceptical but are now advocates.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 29/08/2017 20:55

My SSS rules, posting here to be accountable:

1 - no alcohol, except September 9th (we've had a longstanding going out-out arrangement with friends, although I might drive so I don't drink)
2 - practice IF as I've done it for 2 days now and it's fine so clearly I can do it
3 - start 30 day shred again
4 - no dark chocolate

MOIST · 29/08/2017 21:06

Hi all. I need to catch up as missed too much.
I'm still here. Just buy.

C4pinkwheels · 29/08/2017 21:21

Welcome newbies, this group is growing and growing I love it, more bitches for my support team.

Grah love your lunch but that would feed me for two days.

BIWI having had a house full of visitors for the best part of a week you have my sympathy, I've just done the last of the washing and as expected have a selection of small items of clothing to repatriate. Thank you for the link to the awesome document.

I have been for my second puppy viewing today, this one wasn't as pretty and the parents were everything that people hate about the breed, yappy, snappy and highly excitable. So yesterday's pup started at a 5/10 but has slowly climbed to an 8/10 today so I'm perilously close to making a decision. I have twigged that my husband and DC have brought this puppy idea to life to try and cure me of my reluctance to leave the house. They are going to leave me alone with a bloody puppy and I will have to walk her every day and speak to real people outside the house. Darn it.

For me SSS means, dropping the berries, going back to strict BC rules upping the water intake and eating lots more green veg. I only have two weeks until we go to Denmark for the wedding.

SummerSazz · 29/08/2017 21:27

Been very busy with 2 camping trips - just hanging on to woe ish

Had a quick skim and oldbooks I had some brilliant blood test results a few weeks back (7 months into LC). I hadn't had any tests before so no relative measure, but my 'bad cholesterol' was fine and my good cholesterol (probably as a result of leafy greens - I put any pasta or rice topping or casserole onto a huge pile of spinach or salad leaves) was excellent so overall levels were very good.
Hi almost did a little dance as I I've always advocated butter over margarine but now have ff yoghurt daily and cheese plus quite a lot of red meat and eggs and it's all tickety boo SmileSmile.

I'll post my Mexico restAurant pic which felt appropriate for the group.

Hope all those struggling can KOKO and I'll be back properly once the kids go back and the juggling work work she subsides somewhat

Shiraznowplease · 29/08/2017 21:32

Can I just ask a question ... do fluids such as tea count for fluid intake or is it just water on boot camp? As there is no official boot camp can I sign up for sss please?

SummerSazz · 29/08/2017 21:35

I've just seen this on fb and is a good watch. It's pushing a (free) book but may help with naysayer family members. Hope the link works 🤞

That wasn't the link to the video - I'll try again

SummerSazz · 29/08/2017 21:45

Nope. Can't do it.

CiderwithBuda · 29/08/2017 21:47

Evening all. Another good day here. As it should be on day 2! Mind you I hav been known to give up by lunchtime on day 1 before now........

Food -

Breakfast - Total Greek yoghurt with a nectarine and nuts and seeds
Lunch - spinach, chicken, avocado, four cherry tomatoes and four stuffed peppadew peppers with Delouis mayo and EVO
Snack - two Babybels
Dinner - omelette with chorizo bits, feta, chopped spring onion and red pepper and peas. DH made and it could have been more buttery. Stuck to th pan and was a bit dry. Still good though.
Snack - some Brie and cheddar

Looking back maybe a bit cheese heavy. And I know some of my veg is hgher in carbs than it should be.

No alcohol again this evening. Even though DH had a gin and tonic and opened red wine.

Am out for lunch at Zizzis tomorrow and so will be sensible. Meeting a friend who is very strict foodwise so I won't be tempted to stray. Then Pizza Express for dinner on Thursday night. Have already planned chicken ceasar salad without the bread or Croutons and extra oil. Driving so won't be drinking.

Bumped into a friend this afternoOn who said I looked like I had lost weight. I must admit to feeling lighter and less bloated already.

In bed now feeling peckish. Have a large glass of water to take th edge off.

RaininSummer · 29/08/2017 22:06

Well Bella Italia was love!y. A very rare night out with most of my family. The amazing news of the evening was that they now do spiralised veg with pasta sauce!!! Spoiled it by having cheesecake and cream and wine but I rarely go out and am planning on low carbing forever so I think that is fine.

C4 a dog will certainly get you out each day and dog people are usually very friendly.

wotabastard · 29/08/2017 22:24

@ilovecherries well done that is a great achievement! 8 miles is not to be sniffed at!

@SummerSazz I love that mural. So pretty.

@RaininSummer The last time I was at Bella Italia (pre lc) I did notice how good and accommodating their menu was. Def want to go back now!

Great day here, just wish I had a water cooler by the bed Grin

I made ghee this morning! (yay!) I've been concerned with burning butter when cooking things so thought I'd have a bash at making some. I used a block of unsalted butter and heated it til all the whey rose to the top then skimmed it off and all the milk solids go to the bottom then you pour it through cloth into a jar. It took a lot longer than I realised and I was bit Confused, thinking I was doing it wrong but it turned out well and now I can fry at a higher temp with no burn!

Pioneer Woman Ghee

creamy coffee
B: 2 unsmoked bacon, 2 eggs cooked with ghee, heap of babyleaf and rocket salad
L: busy and not hungry so did not eat
D: steak burger fried in ghee, huge greek salad and half an avocado

chugged through my water and had a cup of tea.

starsky22 · 29/08/2017 23:32

summer well done on the blood tests, I'd like to check what my cholesterol is like and also find out my body fat percentage, but don't know where to get it done, can't imagine the gp will want to run tests when there's no indication of anything wrong?

Today:
B sausages
L prawn mayo & avocado salad
D grilled trout (with butter) and courgette slices

YoLoZammo · 30/08/2017 00:07

Hi All. Is anyone else recovering from a stressful BH weekend or did you all have a great relaxing time?

My rellies have now gone home.

STBXH was civil to me today and said he was trying to be nice.

My DC have been lovely today.

Today I ate ham/cheese/mayo rollups and 2 baby tomatoes; 6 very small chicken wings; a bit of leftover veg in creamy cheese sauce with half a posh Angus beefburger and a slice of courgette and ham frittata that i have made for the rest of the weeks breakfasts. A creamy coffee and a latte. Spoonful of Greek yog with a few berries. Not enough water.

C4 go and get that beautiful puppy before I beat you to it. It practically needs rescuing and may end up rescuing you .

Grah cheers for the links. Very interesting and useful info.

NSV to report: my body fat percentage has finally dropped below 40%. It's now 39.9%. Grin and a dress I was bursting out of and couldn't sit down I and breathe at the same time now fits very loosely.

starsky tell your gp about this WOE and ask them to check your bloods to make sure it's not harming you. Mine did. Many gps are sceptics of lchf and would love the chance to prove you wrong.

wota well done on the ghee I could never be arsed with that faffing .

Everyone else: stop whinging about drinking too much alcohol, missing drinking alcohol, making lchf exceptions for birthdays/"special" anniversaries/prebooked occasions/the cat's aunt's best friend's neighbour's housewarming celebration and JUST STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL. You won't die. You won't stop having fun or enjoying life. You won't be a party pooper. You won't make drunken bad food choices. You won't think, fuck it I might as well eat all the cake and drink all the wine now. You won't sabotage your healthy eating or weight loss goals either. Just do it. And stay away from that slippery slope.

As you were.

Bring on SSS. I'M IN.

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 30/08/2017 00:16

@Lauralou69 Really struggle with nausea when I.F, any ideas?
Don't do it. Smile

If you body doesn't like it don't force it. Eat when hungry, if its every 4 hours then eat.
Eating LCHF can start as every 4 hours then after a while you find it's 4 1/2 hours then 5..... just let it happen naturally.

You could try timing the length of time you can go and what is filling.

Eating a big fatty low carb meal until you are full, then just drink water and see how long you go without feeling hungry.
Next meal change the fiber/fat/protein level. time how long you go before you need to eat.

SummerSazz · 30/08/2017 07:32

starsky mine was done through BUPA under work medical policy. I've just had a look online and the BUPA Core assessment I think was the one I had is £180. I think groupon might sometimes do them cheaper.

GP may do a blood test if you ask but I'd wait until you've done lchf way of eating for 6 months.

Great stick telegraph pole there YoLo Grin

ilovecherries · 30/08/2017 09:27

One of the nice things I've noticed on LCHF is that if a skirt or a pair of trousers fits me at 8am, it will still fit me at 8pm. In the past, my abdomen was always a tight, swollen, distended (and noisy!) drum by mid afternoon. Now I'm comfortable in my clothes all day, I'm not ripping them off at 3pm.
