Hi ladies,
Excuse the ramblings,
need to ask a "I don't know, I'm a guy" question.

1st typed this on a firefox session and it disappeared sorry if it repeats.
2nd Birthday, completed 2 goals off riding list. Riding full length of Red river in 1 day and criss-crossing all bridges over the Red. (220km)
AND staying below 200lb for 2 days. Opened the beer, Shock

Ok, thought process from a semi drunk guy.

Daughter, 23, 32H ,165 lb says " How come BMI and Body Fat Percentage calculators don't account for the girls?"
Wife says later on, X told her getting a reduction from J to D cupsize she loss 20lb in weight.

So looked it up. BFP, BMI not mention of cup size.
BFP calculators has waist, height, age, and wrist measurements, but nothing about the girls. For guys were talking an ounce per inch and no fat gathers there, believe me.
But for the girls, how do you account for the differences, using main stream math about healthy weight or BFP? Doesn't seem Fair.

But I can't answer this, but reading the threads perhaps, it might help with the perception of a BMI / BFP as a healthy number target if you all knew.

P.S.
Shopping in the UK for bras via Skype, for 3 daughters, to get the size pattern and support for a reasonable price, does get the shop assistance attention. Smile. Have yet to be embarrassed by anything to do with buying / discussing anything, yes including the difference between light and super, with my wife and girls.

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 11/09/2017 06:46

C4 great picture, you look really good, a chauvinist guy would say hubba bubba, but I'm a gentleman, nice shoes. Grin

@ilovecherries sorry to read about your hair loss, my wife after pregnancy had the same worry.
Noticed that during the early stages lots of ladies have hair fabulous hair growth, but at the end there is a temporary loss. Perhaps like RAGZ134 that might mean very soon it might be a different problem, but at least your blood results are great. Mum lost most of her hair after her first hair cut at 21 caused such a shock, she later enjoyed all the instant good hair days for any occasion. Smile Cost savings at the hairdressers was an absolute fortune.
sorry male humour.

wotabastard · 11/09/2017 06:47

@Grah0SoontobeaFitty that is such a good point about cup size and bmi!

Welcome @Hugomcwooferton read everything you can! Reddit keto and diet doctors are great places to start as is the entire low carb boot camp section! Loads of research to keep you busy and to get your head around this way of eating. Brew

ilovecherries · 11/09/2017 07:15

ClearEyes, was having a cry because you were being so nice to me and I was feeling so low about it. I know on one level this is nothing. Hell, it's nothing against my OWN health challenges over the last decade, never mind against hurricanes, earthquakes, wars, poverty, famines and serious life threatening illnesses. But I was just starting to feel so much better about myself and it feels like a huge backward step. And unlike being fat, there's nothing really I can do about it. Have given my head a bit of a wobble and told myself I need to stop wallowing, but I'm terrified that as I'm post menopause it won't return.

StuntNun · 11/09/2017 07:26

Grah add that to the list of reasons why BMI isn't a particularly good measure of health.

OldBooks · 11/09/2017 08:06

Welcome hugo, I think it's ASD who has reversed pre diabetes using this WOE, and there are several of us with insulin resistance which is helped by the woe. It should really help you. We are a very supportive bunch so ask away if you have any questions and feel free to share moans, successes etc!

Tiddlywinks63 · 11/09/2017 08:51

Oh dear *I can imagine how distressed you must be.
I'm delurking because I seem to be losing more hair and read recently that applying castor oil to your scalp stimulates hair growth. Could be worth a try.

CiderwithBuda · 11/09/2017 09:09

Morning all.

Ilovecherries- I have the same but it's not related to LCHF for me as it's been going on for a while. Hope it doesn't get worse!

I'm post menopausal so suspect it's just that. There are some supplements you can buy at Boots. Cheryl Baker from Buck's Fizz had the same issue and she endorses /advertises one called Viviscal.

It is horrible. I hate it too. Meaning to go have bloods done.

YoLoZammo · 11/09/2017 09:15

ilove it doesn't sound like it is something systemic that has caused it because you said the area was tender. Maybe get your gp to swab for an infection (bacterial or fungal). You might also have a sensitivity or allergy to something that has touched it. Try an antihistamine for a couple of days and see if the tenderness reduces.

The other thing I thought, which you suggested was that it could just be cyclical due to hormones. Instead of you losing hairs regularly you have lost a lot at once due to the shock to your system of changing from carb burning to fat burning and the efqfect on your oestrogen levels. You WILL grow them back. It's like how you hold onto hair during pregnancy and 6 months after the baby is born they all start to shed together leading to panic about hair loss. But it all evens out in the end.

YoLoZammo · 11/09/2017 09:17

I realise those two theories contradict each other but the theme that it's only temporary is consistent!

YoLoZammo · 11/09/2017 09:20

grah BMI is mostly bollocks. The sooner the medical profession accept that it is a very blunt tool that should be accompanied by individual assessment the better. Especially as in this country some NHS services are rationed or forcefully invoked according to BMI.

twinklestar2 · 11/09/2017 10:12

I'm baaaaaaack!

Have had eggs for breakfast so raring to go! Will be thin for Xmas! Grin

lisbapalea · 11/09/2017 11:07

Is a NSV a Non-Scale-Victory? If so, I think I have just had one - realised I did my belt up an extra hole! That's after just 8 days on bootcamp so I am feeling cautiously optimistic for my first weigh in on wednesday....

Not sure I posted food for yesterday:

B - raspberries, flax and greek yog
L - sirloin steak, bearnaise sauce, green veg, 1 x roasted tomato. Coffee with cream
D - celery with pate, radishes with blue cheese
Pudding - some raspberries with dble cream

Today:
B - raspberries, flax, greek yog
L - M&S salad of some kind
D - pork belly slices which I will cook with mushrooms, broccoli etc
Already into my 2nd litre of water today!

I definitely feel so much better already, just not so sluggish and bleurgh. My fuse was short over the weekend though, so I don't know if that was carb-flu related as Fri/Sat was when I felt at my most queasy.

Hope everyone has a good week!

ilovecherries · 11/09/2017 11:07

YoLo, the GP had a good look at my scalp (as did the hairdresser) and neither can see anything at all. GP said that scalp tenderness was very common during hair loss. It's got no clear explanation but the theory is that nerves innervating scalp hair follicles send pain messages back to the brain when the follicle no longer has a hair in it, in a similar way to phantom limb pain. He said there was absolutely no local cause, the skin is perfectly healthy. And my hormone profile (to be fair, he did take me seriously and ordered lots of bloods) was absolutely normal for a woman of my age. Everything else, from LFT (because of the recurring itch), thyroid, ferritin etc etc was normal as well. I'm still feeling quite tearful about it, and upset about how bad it has gotten before I noticed it. I've practically got a monk's tonsure. :(

Just caught up..... you lot can certainly natter!

Still KOKO. Weighed myself this morning and am still at 12.4 which is the weight I was when I decided to just drift for a while, let my body catch up after a 2st 10lb loss. Sounds impressive but I'm only 5ft 1in.

On that note, reading grah's query set me pondering again. I'm sure many of us have questioned the validity of the BMI calculation for deciding whether we're healthy or not, I know I have.

According to my new gp's surgery I've shrunk a bit therefore I'm more overweight. My argument with that is my body still has the same mass, my bones haven't disappeared so measuring my BMI against my 'new' height is rubbish.

On another note (and I hope I won't upset anyone) next week I have my pre op for a second mastectomy. I'm going flat, no reconstruction at all. Does that then alter my goal weight? How much does a pair of boobs weigh? Does it matter?

Anyway, we all know BMI is crap Grin

Hugs to those who need them, and congratulations to all just keeping on. I love reading all the ups and downs and feel like I know you all!

ASDismynormality · 11/09/2017 11:12

Hugomcwooferton. I was pre-diabetic and have as oldbooks said managed to reverse it. My HbA1c was 44 in July 2016, I started WOE in January by which time I can now see I was displaying symptoms of diabetes, March my HbA1c was 42 and in July was 38 which is no longer pre-diabetic. Have lost almost 7 stone in the process!

Feeling awful today, have had a migraine since the end of last week. It's only about the third one I've had since Jan as this WOE dramatically reduced them.

ilovecherries · 11/09/2017 11:35

I hope your surgery goes smoothly, Bella, and you have a quick and easy recovery. I've also had the argument about height loss. I used to be a smidge short of 5'8 and I'm now about 5'63/4. That inch and a quarter made a big difference to my BMI calculation - more than I expected, actually. I don't know how much a pair of boobs weight, but when I explored possibility of a reduction, the surgeon said I could expect a stone immediately post op, plus a few extra pounds once all the post op swelling was gone.

OP posts:
bellalurgy · 11/09/2017 11:46

ilove that's one way to lose weight!

It may or may not help but have you asked for a copy of your blood results. The 'normal' ranges are not the same everywhere as clearly not all human bodies are the same. It may be that some of your results are the low end of 'normal' and therefore could do with boosting. Might be worth investigating.

Also, were you someone who lost hair with pregnancy or any other time? It may be your hormones affecting your hair loss in some way. Maybe a bit of independent research is the way to go. The NHS is amazing but it does deal better with emergency rather than chronic conditions and uses several arbitrary measurements as a bit of a blunt instrument (see BMI discussion above Grin )

StuntNun · 11/09/2017 11:58

Ilove hair loss is a known side-effect of weight loss, no matter what method you use. That doesn't make it any less upsetting though. Can you change your hairstyle to make it less obvious until the hair grows back? I second the suggestion at looking at some form of supplementation designed to promote hair growth. If it's the weight loss that's caused this then upping your carbs won't make any difference.

ragz134 · 11/09/2017 13:32

Weight had spiked up 1.5lbs today. Had a big dinner yesterday, but still! Am 4 days into TOTM so shouldn't be that either. Really feeling like I've stalled now, not lost anything since egg fast a month ago (well, I gained on holiday and lost that!). Will aim to drink more water, not sure what else I can do as I'm following my SSS rules pretty well. KOKO, I guess....

Just had cauliflower mash, little bit of roast pork belly and a small spoon of veg for lunch.

Not sure what dinner is yet.

ilovecherries · 11/09/2017 13:32

Stunt, thanks, that slightly gives me hope that it's temporary, and answers the question I had about whether it was weight loss, or this diet pre se. I was finding it hard to imagine that it was the latter, given the quality of my food has vastly improved - everything I eat is now cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients. The hairdresser has done his best, but it's too significant to be able to do much with it. He talked me out of a buzz cut till we see if it gets worse, but that's the level it's at, where that's a serious option.

Welcome Hugo
Good luck for next week Bella, hope you recover quickly.
Hugs Cherries. I think it probably looks worse to you than to us, however I completely understand how upsetting it is. Have thinned on top myself after having extremely thick hair. Had to change my hairstyle to cover it. Have assumed mine is menopause related.

lisbapalea · 11/09/2017 14:40

Pork belly question....

Will something like this work without the honey:

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 11/09/2017 15:39

@bellalurgy
Hope your surgery goes well.
Oh you know I have lots of questions.
Size, weight, does the doctors have guides.
Is it to rude, nosey, personnel to ask?
