Ok, can I do it with adding some slightly more carbs veg and the odd bit of fruit though? I'm afraid Grains/legumes/sugar will be a slippery slope.

Oh - and my skin and nails are amazing. I look really well. Just balding :(

I am two weeks in. 5kg down but I ache all over and feel rubbish. Is this the carb flu?

BIWI · 10/09/2017 19:47

If you're feeling rubbish, then it's a sign your electrolytes are out of whack - are you cooking with salt/adding it to your food? You also need magnesium and potassium.

Lo-Salt is a good source of potassium, but also you should be eating plenty of salmon, avocado, spinach and full fat natural yoghurt.

Perhaps consider a supplement? (But not a multi-vitamin as they won't have enough of what you need)

BIWI · 10/09/2017 19:48

Ilovecherries without knowing what you're eating regularly it's hard to know, but I'd certainly look at adding in more carby veg. And nuts/seeds, and some fruit, wouldn't go amiss.

ragz134 · 10/09/2017 19:48

I lose a lot of hair anyway, but it does seem to be getting worse. However, it is also growing faster these days. Not just on my head, either!

Did the roast, made cauliflower mash and then baked it with cheese on top. Served with kale, broccoli and small amount of carrot. Was all delicious. Crackling was great!

ilovecherries · 10/09/2017 20:14

At the moment, breakfast is bone broth or bullion because I'm doing 16:8, although I will have breakfast if I'm very hungry, but that's rare now.
Lunch is something like sardines, avocado, eggs or tuna, all either in oil or butter, and a large mixed salad with EVOO. At the weekend it's a full English and I have spinach, mushrooms, tomato with mine.
Dinner is chicken/duck/pork/beef/salmon all cooked in butter or oil oil with skin or fat plus at least three different types of green veg, all with butter
Snack/dessert will be half a dozen berries, a few Brazil nuts, occasional square of 100%, or a mini Brie.

It sounds repetitive, but I cook them in loads of different ways with herbs, spices etc, but those are the core things that go in every meal. I've never hungry, am losing a pound a week, and I have another 2.5 stone to put me just a couple of pounds into the high end of a normal bmi.

Drinks are water, weak black tea, occasional coffee with cream, no alcohol. Loads of energy, look well. GP ordered loads of tests, everything normal.

Hmm, I hate avocado. Is there an alternative? Thanks, I will have a look for a decent supplement. Maybe it is time to very my diet. I have eaten the same thing every day for two weeks. I had better menu plan I think....

Lenl · 10/09/2017 21:06

wotabastard it's been 3 and a half weeks for me and also feels like it's been forever!

Today
B spicy quorn mince with jalapenos and spinach, cheese, two fried eggs
L cucumber and cream cheese
D homemade salmon fishcakes with cheesey creamy leeks and broccoli roasted in olive oil

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 10/09/2017 21:17

What's EVO?

ClearEyesFullHearts · 10/09/2017 21:21

ilovecherries I was getting thebhair loss as well but it seems to have stopped. From what I read about it, its temporary and new hair starts growing back and quickly, as ragz said.

I'd say it was about a month or so of hair loss before it seems to have let up.

Your day-to-day food looks delicious. Curious if you also do regular exercise?

BIWI · 10/09/2017 21:24

EVOO = extra virgin olive oil

ilovecherries · 10/09/2017 21:38

ClearEyes, I'm a pretty good cook, and I enjoy it. After years of making everything as low fat as possible, it's a bit of a reversal! I'm not long finished rehab after a lot of surgery following an accident, so it's only walking at the moment - it's still a novelty to be off crutches after years of not being very mobile. I try and do about three miles every day. Starting to add Pilates into the mix, but that's very recent. Now I don't go to rehab gym with the physios, I need to get myself organised with a local gym.

It's not terrible, ilove, honest. Worth seeing if more carbs help though?

Grimbles · 10/09/2017 22:10

Oh cherries, it's not terrible but I get why it bothers you. I hope it gets sorted Flowers

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 10/09/2017 22:13

I get it, evo. Doh!!🙃

Grimbles · 10/09/2017 22:14

B. Poached egg, ham and garlic mayo (I was aiming for eggs Benedict but forgot that I'd forgot to buy hollandaise)
L. 5 Nandos hot wings, halloumi
S. Ham, chicken slices, cheese, pork Scratchings
D. Lamb doner meat, salad, garlic mayo

Think I've hit 3l of liquids as well.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 10/09/2017 23:04

cherries you're a real hero of mine with your commitment to the woe and other things.

Yes, the hair looks thin but I'm guessing you didn't ever have a lot of hair (or thin hair)? Aonit will be more pronounced with you.

Not really sure upping your carbs is the answer, tbh. This phase is meant to pass.

Have you thought about any female hair gain products? I have a friend who used somethingcannot remember whatand saw a good improvement. There are lots of other tricks that can see you through.

You've come a long way. This is just another bump in the road. Flowers

wotabastard · 10/09/2017 23:15

Nourkrin products are meant to good I have heard. Flowers @ilovecherries

ilovecherries · 10/09/2017 23:16

ClearEyes, I'm now having a good old cry. (Watery smile). No, my hair used to be pretty thick. Genetically I've very high temples, but that has never bothered me, but this is horrifying me. The top of my head has been feeling very tender for the last couple of weeks, but last week I took a photo of the top of my head to ask on S&B about colour, and couldn't believe it. At first I tried convincing myself it was a bad light/angle but interrogated my husband and under pressure he finally admitted he'd been noticing it but hadn't wanted to upset me. Rushed off to GP, but then got all my results back normal on Friday afternoon. Was at the hairdresser yesterday, and he agreed that it wasn't great. If i knew it would def grow back I wouldn't be quite as upset, but I keep imagining that it might be permanent. The back and sides are ok, but there is a saucer shaped bit on the top that is terrible. Oddly, I haven't been aware of shedding though.

www.dietdoctor.com/can-low-carb-diets-result-in-hair-loss don't know if you've already seen this.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 11/09/2017 00:59

Aw, hell...I didn't mean to make you cry. Hope you were crying because you're a hero, not because of the hair loss comments.

You'll get through this. KOKO.
