I weighed yesterday and was 2 kgs down since Monday ☺

I'm enjoying it so far apart from the convenience factor as I now have to make different foods rather than sharing with DS

lisbapalea · 10/01/2016 15:19

Hi all - good to read about some impressive losses over the past couple of days so well done all!

My throat has been ridiculous - saw the GP twice in the week to be told it was viral but eventually got antibiotics after seeing an out of hours dr this morning. Can't remember being in so much pain for so long, and have now got no voice left at all, which is tricky with a 2 and a 6yr old! Swallowing any food or drink has been virtually impossible so I have to say BC rules have been slightly abandoned until I get better as I am just eating anything that my throat can tolerate. That said I have had nothing at all today apart from about a pint of water.

Wallow wallow wallow - sorry for all the self pitying! It's good to read what you're all up to so I have some ideas on what to cook when I am human again!

BIWI · 10/01/2016 17:38

AuntieMaggie - why don't you make the same thing for you both?

Sorry you're so ill lisbapalea Sad

feekerry · 10/01/2016 18:02

Mmmmmm Parmesan crisps will DEF be on my list this week. Sound amazing!!
Anyone got any bright ideas re gravey?? Did us a roast tonight and I just had the meat and veg. Just did a bisto gravey and the carbs seemed sky high?! Is this right? Any alternatives??

BIWI · 10/01/2016 18:24

Yep - a prepared gravy like Bisto will always be carby as they use flour as a thickener.

What I do when I'm roasting meat or chicken is to add water and/or wine to the roasting dish. I sometimes also put the meat on a 'trivet' of thickly sliced onion and carrot (they add flavour to the gravy rather than being something that you eat). When the meat comes out of the oven, and you're resting it, then you can either serve the 'jus' as it is, which will be thin, or you can reduce it a bit by boiling it, so that it thickens slightly.

But if you like thick gravy, you'll have to accept that you're adding carbs to your meal, as you'll have to add something like flour.

AuntieMaggie · 10/01/2016 21:07

BIWI He eats the same as me for most things but he has toast and porridge for breakfast which we used to 'share' (one plate of toast...) He's gone off some things too and can't manage meat unless it's really tender as he doesn't have enough teeth yet Grin

He used to like my frittata and feta/olive salads but has gone off those. Will eat a whole packet of cocktail sausages though!

AuntieMaggie · 10/01/2016 21:13

I'm experimenting with saucy dishes which I'll just have with veg but I'll make ds rice/pasta with his - he's not keen on potatoes but will eat a bowl of plain rice but also likes really strong flavours and quite spicy too.

I'm trying a few hairy biker recipes but going to make a few adaptations to lower the carb values

DiscoDancer · 10/01/2016 22:43

Can I ask a quick question, have had bad breath all day - what does this mean? I remember having it last time I low carbed. I am a couple of kg down this week which feels fab, and even though it's probably water incentivises me to carry on!

VagueIdeas · 10/01/2016 22:46

It's ketosis Disco. Drinking a lot more water will help.

DiscoDancer · 10/01/2016 22:50

Thanks vague. Not sure I can drink any more but will try..... I miss my apple and blackcurrant squash Grin

lisbapalea · 11/01/2016 07:10

Just foolishly weighed in and naurprisingky given I have barely eaten anything because of this nagging throat, i have lost a fair bit. In fact have lost half a stone in a week, down to 11.11!

But I expect I will put a fair bit back on when I start eating again so I shan't get too excited. I suppose some of the loss is because I have stopped the Christmas binge eating, some of it is because for Mon-Wed last week I was following bootcamp rules, and some (most) of the loss will be because from Thurs-Sun I didn't really eat much at all.

I am feeling slightly better today so will see what I can handle food-wise, and will try to remain on the bootcamp wagon!

The ironic thing is that I have finally reached a healthy BMi through being not very healthy at all....

lisbapalea · 11/01/2016 07:10

naurprisingky = not surprisingly

StuntNun · 11/01/2016 07:28

Lisba being fat-adapted can make a huge difference when you're ill as you have more energy since you can access your fat stores, unlike someone eating a standard diet who will crash out once their glycogen stores are exhausted. You may find that if you go straight back to eating low carb then you maintain that weight loss. But it definitely isn't a recommended way to lose weight! I hope you're feeling better today.

FelicityFunknickle · 11/01/2016 08:16

lisba Brew

Mookbark · 11/01/2016 11:27

Glad you are feeling a bit better lisba
I've lost an astonishing 6.2 lbs this week! Never lost that much in a single week before. Mind you, I did pile it on in December.
Hoping for a more sensible 1-2 lbs this week.
Has everyone signed on for the new bootcamp? i'm really looking forward to starting "officially" Grin

FelicityFunknickle · 11/01/2016 16:36

How do I sign on for bootcamp?

6.2 lb is amazing.

alicewhatsthematter · 11/01/2016 17:07

BIWI would you add me in please?

Mookbark · 11/01/2016 17:20

Hers the link for the new bootcamp sign up thread
Hope that worked

BeyondCBA · 12/01/2016 11:57

Getting back in slowly while i cant eat properly...

Streaky bacon, scrambled egg and mushrooms for brunch
Pork, brocolli and carrot & swede mash for dinner
(Then chocolate for later, if i can)

BeyondCBA · 12/01/2016 11:59

Getting enough water in is gonna be a problem, can only drink things at room temp, yet water pipes are freezing. So have to pour stuff an hour before i need to drink it and then it is still painful, just not as painful.

FelicityFunknickle · 12/01/2016 15:22

Thanks mookbark

BeyondCBA · 13/01/2016 10:36

Wonder if anyone here can help?

Anyone got any ideas of something BC friendly that i could put in a smoothie, along with greek yog, to lower (or ideally cut!) the berry content?

BIWI · 13/01/2016 13:00

Why have you bought a smoothie?! You'll still be consuming the same carbs, no matter what you add to it

VagueIdeas · 13/01/2016 13:21

I think CBA worded it a bit wrong and she means what can she use in a Greek yoghurt based smoothie instead of berries, to make it low carb.

My guess is smoothies are off the menu, even on BC lite?

BeyondCBA · 13/01/2016 13:39

Oo, no, not bought!!

For breakfast i have been making a smoothie - no milk btw, just ff greek yog, a little portion (like a tablespoon) of berries and water. And i dont mean i had it while bootcamping, i mean in between bcs. I was wondering how i could adapt that to make it more bc appropriate, if theres any lc veg that would be good :)
