Hmm, may have a bit of an answer why i've been struggling with weight loss. Seems my 'average day' is nowhere near meeting an 'inactive' tdee (dh has given me his Fitbit) so i guess i'm kind of really lucky that i havent been putting loads of weight on!! Imagine if i wasnt watching what i ate?!

Looks like i will have to mfp alongside bc (newbies, this is just me - i have a very wonky body!) :(

feekerry · 05/01/2016 19:36

beyond i am going to get a fit bit too as its prob a massive underestimate as to how inactive I am.
5 days in. Felt crappy yesterday but better today. Haven't felt hungry at all which is amazing.
Also, just noticed asda have started selling pre made bags of cauliflower rice?? Looks like an okay alternative for topping shepherd pie etc

LexLoofah · 05/01/2016 20:28

vague the way I do it for cauli cheese is fry leek and bacon in butter then add half a pack of cream cheese and half a small pot of double cream then some grated cheddar and parmesan, some shredded mozzarella is good too as really thickens it up but not necessary.

For a béchamel type sauce for lasagne (without pasta of course, courgette or aubergine slices are good replacement) you can whisk cream with a couple of egg yolks and then mix in grated cheese of choice with tsp of mustard powder or pinch of nutmeg

Knitmyshickers10 · 05/01/2016 20:51

Ooh why haven't I thought of cream cheese before? How carby is it? How much do you eat?

lisbapalea · 05/01/2016 21:00

Dh is torturing me by having a warmed up mince pie with cream.

I just had two squares of 90% dark choc which were amazing. Quite tempted to have some of extra thick dble cream with a couple of blackberries...

FelicityFunknickle · 05/01/2016 21:18

Moussaka was lovely, thanks for that recipe.
Does anyone use the Atkins drinks or bars? I know they're probably not "good" as such but i need something very quick and easy for work. No storage or kitchen facilities at all.

FelicityFunknickle · 05/01/2016 21:19

Ooh, mince pie. Mmm.

milkmilklemonade12 · 05/01/2016 21:19

lisbapalea You are carrying a few pounds less than me Wink

Starting tomorrow and my day should look like this:

B: total ff yoghurt
L: spinach, bacon and avocado salad with some ff Mayo
D: LC recipe (from the pinned recipe thread) shepherds pie with celeriac and leek mash top

Snacks: LC veg crudités with individual pot ff cream cheese to dip, home made kale chips

I've got a big 1.5l water bottle as well with a wide neck that helps me chug more, and I have a water cooler right by my desk as well. I'm going to aim for 4.5l during my working day (8am - 6pm)... Let's see how we go!

VagueIdeas · 05/01/2016 21:36

Thanks Knit and Lex.

Dh is torturing me by having a warmed up mince pie with cream.

Mine too!

I was given some ultra dark chocolate for Christmas - 100% cacao. I was craving "dessert" so, in the absence of any FF yoghurt, decided to try it. Initial though "Hmm, this isn't as bitter as I was expecting" swiftly followed by "OMG this may actually be repulsive.

Switched to 72% cacao. Better, but more carby. Had just a little to make emptying the dishwasher less tedious.

I know that's not strictly Bootcamp, but still...

FelicityFunknickle · 06/01/2016 07:12

Mince pies are nice and husbands are mean Grin
It is a bit of a struggle at first (hoping it gets easier)
I have a beautiful panetone on the worktop, which obviously cannot be touched by me.
And I confess I miss wine.
But I feel better just for two days of not drinking tbh Shock Blush

lisbapalea · 06/01/2016 10:19

I am feeling sorry for myself - sore throat is really horrible today so swallowing is properly painful. Had to take dd to the GP this morning so got him to check me while we were there and apparently it's just a viral throat infection which should go in 5-7 days, so I am wallowing in self pity!! Dh better not bother with his mince pie temptation tonight or he might get walloped.

Think I will try to concoct some kind of low carb sOup to have for lunch...

I don't have the low carb "good" feeling yet (prob not surprising on day 3!) but I am feeling a bit proud of myself for not succumbing to crap (apart from the 90% choc which I think is just about ok on bootcamp lite) so going to focus on that pride / smugness as my motivation until I feel or see actual results!

milkmilklemonade12 · 06/01/2016 12:17

Definitely feel smug lisba! And I hope your throat feels better soon, DH had it over Christmas and it was nasty Sad

AuntieMaggie · 06/01/2016 12:25

Day 2 here and I've just had a reminder of why you need to plan for this... popped put to get early lunch and struggled to find anything low carb and my emergency cafe that does good salads is still closed for Christmas! So I ended up spending 7 quid in Sainsburys Angry but the antipasti platter with gouda cheese with chilli was lovely if spicy!

So I'm sat here trying to meal plan for the next week... Has anyone else done this? Dp will eat lc too and we only have a toddler and he'll have what we're having with pasta/rice or something I've prepared for him.

milkmilklemonade12 · 06/01/2016 13:01

Yes I have had to meal plan for the whole week too! A good option if you're caught short is a plastic bowl of salad you get in sainsburys, small or the larger family sized ones (smaller ones come with a little plastic fork) and then bulk out with plain sliced chicken and/or prawns.

I've done soup for the fridge, and I'm doing LC shepherds pie by ditching the mash potato top and replacing with mashed celeriac and creamed leeks. DS will definitely eat the meat, and he'll have it with some peas and sweet corn.

Cauliflower cheese is one I tried a few years back when I originally did this and had success with. It's also cheap, you can make a big dish of it and take it to work the next day too.

LexLoofah · 06/01/2016 13:08

vague soft cheese is more carby than hard cheese, I use sainsburys organic one which is 2.8g per 100g, I only use it for sauces which get split 4 ways at chez loofah, if I fancy a cheesy snack/meal I have hard cheese like cheddar (spread with butter or butter & marmite) or slices of jarlsberg also spread with butter

lisba hope you are feeling better

auntie yes planning is key, I almost always do a meal plan but don't allocate to particular days so gives a bit of flexability as to what you fancy/how much time you have that day, so usually have 1-3 meals worth of stuff in to choose from. I am off to the butchers later, really looking forward to it - has become my new sweet shop!

readyforno2 · 06/01/2016 16:39

Day 2 for me too. I'm so glad to be back on the wagon. Feel better already, although a wee bit carb flu creeping in...
First session back at the trainer tonight and I'm looking forward to that too

VagueIdeas · 06/01/2016 17:06

I really need to meal plan for the week as well. Have been putting a Sainsburys order together but gawd knows whether I can plan a week out of it!

Knitmyshickers10 · 06/01/2016 17:11

Hi all, today's food as follows

B - 2 slices of pastrami, 2 eggs and grated cheddar cheese
L - again the never ending swede and leek soup made with stock from Sunday's chicken carcass and little bits of chicken. Small pack of scratchings
D - will be chicken breast filled with cheddar, salad and mayonnaise.

A gallon of water and two cups of tea with splash of milk.

feekerry · 06/01/2016 19:36

Still going strong here. But... Just been prescribed a loooong course of steroids for a chronic illness I have. Was really hoping to avoid the dreaded pred.... But no. Really hope this doesn't scupper my low carb diet and losing weightSad

StuntNun · 07/01/2016 07:45

It may well affect your weight loss but if you stick to low carb then you may be able to minimise the damage as it were. How long do you have to take the steroids for?

feekerry · 07/01/2016 11:26

3 fecking months. Tho most of that is tapering down so fairly low dose.

AuntieMaggie · 07/01/2016 13:51

I'm thinking of making soup... perhaps mushroom or broccoli and cheese... does anyone have any recipes?

I'm not the slightest bit hungry... all I've had to eat today is a couple of boiled eggs and a chunk of cheese!

milkmilklemonade12 · 07/01/2016 14:26

I made a broccoli and blue cheese soup...

I sweated a bunch of spring onions and garlic in butter for a few minutes. Then I added a head of broccoli in florets I cut up, and also I added some extra green veg I had hanging around; kale, spinach, green peppers are all good. I let them cook in the butter for a few minutes, added a pint and a half of vegetable stock, boiled until the veg was cooked, then blended with a stick blender.

I stirred a wedge of blue cheese leftover from Christmas in that I cut up in chunks, and it's stored quite nicely in the fridge for a few days.

I'm also not hungry. I had an omlette for breakfast and some crudites dipped in home made mackerel pate... my lunch is in the work fridge but I don't fancy it... Do I have to have it?

VagueIdeas · 07/01/2016 14:29

Woke up feeling like crap this morning. Weak, wobbly, jelly legs, exhausted - is this carb flu or am I just knackered? I don't remember feeling this way when I last did bootcamp, but nor do I feel like I'm coming down with something.

Soup sounds lovely but I don't have any recipes Maggie. Stock cubes (or stock pots, which is what I usually use) are really carby as well, so I was never sure whether they're OK or not, considering they're diluted.

Really need to peruse the bootcamp recipe thread. It's just so big and intimidating!

milkmilklemonade12 · 07/01/2016 14:39

I didn't know stock cubes were super carby; I've always used them without a problem, but then my body seems to be basically ok with losing weight as long as I stick to something and go in the right direction the majority of the time.

People who are more sensitive to weight loss/gain might need to check that up though, sorry.
