Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

Sorry to see some of you feeling a bit despondent. Flowers for you all.

Really good advice from Ewan there about not tinkering around too much in the early days. Lotus this WOE is really not about calorie counting. In fact there was discussion on the last thread about people not consuming enough calories to lose weight. BIWI has designed this plan to be easy to follow and to get away from the whole mindset of calorie counting and restriction.

lisba sorry to hear you're in pain. What you're describing wouldn't be appendicitis - that pain is low down on the right hand side of your abdomen, not high up (unless it's pretty advanced, in which case you'd be very ill indeed). Have a look at the symptoms of gall bladder problems. As Ewan says, gallstones are more likely to be caused by a low fat diet.

I'm not weighing today as I've been to my MIL's for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. Amazingly, as she's a compulsive feeder, I managed to stay on plan food-wise (though she was rather Hmm when I didn't have any of her famous tuna rice salad Grin) There were copious amounts of wine, though, so I'm not expecting a loss this week.

For those of you who are struggling with needing a 'treat' sometimes and ending up cheating, this is my go-to bowl of delicious comfort food.
Crabby's not very Famous Berry Crumble Wink I've refined the recipe, for those of you who've made it before, so you might want to have another look. Be careful though... it is very moreish and the carbs will quickly add up. It's better than stuffing your face with sugary/processed crap and then hating yourself afterwards, though!

lisba I had my gall bladder out several years ago pre any thoughts of lcing. Put up with the pain for a while which I found would come and go over a period of time. Once the little blighter had been removed life was so much better. See your gp even if the pain has gone so that its on your records. By the wY the two clusters of stones would have looked great coated in gold as drop earrings!!!!!

No loss for me this week. But, my clothes are definitely looser, my bra in particular, so even though the scales are the same the bod certainly isn't.

I think I'm not eating enough fat and eating too much protein. I've read if you do that, you body changes the protein to glucose.
I feel full all the time, so I have to make myself eat. Part of the problem I feel has been my previous way of eating. I could eat a huge salad minus the dressing, and still be peckish, but now, I can't eat even half of it with dressing.

Roll on next week.

Hi all
I have STS but still 5 off since the start. Unfortunately, I can't add to the spreadsheet atm. I'm very happy as I fell of the wagon a bit on Saturday night. I know it might take a few days to get back in the zone. Health wise, I'm feeling much better as the excruciating pain in my lower back has eased. A couple of long, long walks sorted me out.
I'm staying with BC proper for a few more days to make sure I've made up for previous self sabotage.

I meant to add..Coyo is reduced in Waitrose to 1.49 - still expensive but now I'm not indulging in even more expensive wine, why not?

I have lost a bit so am pleased with that, but also I am convinced I have more of a waist than I had last week which is even better. I'm definately experiencing more balanced energy levels, no more 2pm crashes which is great. I'm doing another week of BC as I started this late. I'm going to try some new recipes and also fizzy water to enliven my meals, and am really going to try to get more sleep. I have always been a night owl which was fine when I could lie in past 7am but is crap now as I get about 6 hours sleep if that. I know this isn't healthy so will try and make it a priority this week.

Isn't it true that muscle weighs more than body fat? So weighing ourselves only tells us so much, it may be that muscle mass is building and fat is being lost but weight is not changing.

Crabby, I know and I'm not a calorie counter fan - you want to change how you eat for life. It does work. It is just some people can eat a huge amount eating this way and that is relevant if they are not losing weight and not sure why.

tetley Flowers it might be worth posting your meals from the last few days to see if someone on here can pick apart your intake. Do you know how much your weight usually fluctuates by?
For cold drinks I've been having fruity herbal teas over ice, which is the closest to juice on BC!

I'm going to continue in BC for a while because I've not been strict enough this last week and have strayed into lite territory on a few occasions. I think I'm going to cut down on dairy a bit as well because I'm not too sure it agrees with me!
I'll hop on the scales in a minute but I'm not too sure I'll see a change, worlds longest TOTM has probably not helped plus I had a weird fluctuation mid week and I don't know if it's gone back down to what it was for last week's weigh in!

Congrats to everyone for everything - losing, staying the same, gaining - and still just KOKO! FlowersFlowersFlowers
I've lost 2.5lbs since BC started. I'm definitely going to stick with it for the next however long, without going to BC Light as I need to lose so much weight. I am really enjoying my food and am hoping the 5 to 8 dip every day when I'm craving wine/chocolate/nuts will recede into the dim and distant past by the end of the BC. (I can but dream Wink )

Patapouf · 25/05/2015 12:00

Pleasantly surprised by my loss of 2.5lbs this week, it's very nearly one stone since I started BC 3 weeks ago Shock I've also lost an inch off my waist & hips, but nowhere else weirdly.

I wonder how much I need to lose to drop a dress size. Last year, i thought I could more or less gain a stone and still fit in my clothes. I've gained 35lbs since last summer and none of my summer clothes fit or most of my other clothes actually so Ive still got some way to go. A lot of a way to go for my goal weight too Off on holiday in a fortnight so it would be nice if I could shoehorn my way into some of it!

Congrats to the losers and stay strong for the gainers and STSers.

I can't weigh in today as I'm on hols and don't have any scales. I think I can safely say I have put on weight. Although I haven't gone crazy foodwise I'm struggling with what to drink. Not had any alcohol though, I stopped that back in January. And definitely not drinking enough water. I'm going to go the local shop and pay eleventy hundred pounds for a bottle of soda water and drink that today Smile.

Thank you for the support Flowers

I am going to KOKO; it may be portion size lotus, I am going to pay good attention to if I am hungry -I thought I was doing that, but reminders are always helpful. I am certainly not eating huge amounts but it is always possible for portions to creep up if one is not careful.

Tiredness, I am working on getting sleep in order - there is not much room for manoeuvre as I don't go out evenings anyway as I don't have childcare. I have been getting up early to deal with workload; I think I may need to pay more attention to the effects of this.

There are more helpful comments, I know - I am just having a wee tea break whilst de-cluttering (mammoth task which DC have limited patience for) - I will look over them again this evening. I am clearly still finding what works for me, so really appreciate your thoughts.

lisa, do you have any food intolerances? Cauliflower and kale (disappointingly) give me really bad stomach cramps. My dsis said something about FODMAP stuff as well, which I have not had a chance to look into - but she mentioned leeks and asparagus (both of which I have eaten this week and do feel bloated and crampy - no pain, but these veg are not being bought again!)

Hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday!

dumdedum give dairy free a go for a couple of weeks, get some coconut oil in to your hot drinks, watch how much protein you're eating and see what happens. You can still have butter when dairy free.

I am a pound down this week. I realised yesterday my coconut oil has been untouched for several days! This has a huge impact on hunger and weight loss and energy and pooing! I made a gorgeous drink immediately using the choco chilli yogi tea, and unsalted butter/coconut oil. I put it in the smoothie maker and whizzed it before adding it to the cup and brewing it.

question are people making BPC using the stick blender just blending in the cup? My stick blender is huge, and I'm worried the liquid will fly everywhere. Also, is anyone else doing it in a smoothie maker? Mine is glass, so I'm frightened the water will crack the jug - I added cold tap water first, but I'd hate to bugger it....

I rarely fart on bc. I fart like a trooper if off piste. Dp the same, although he farts more if I'm not around to stop him shoving food in his gullet like a starved dog.

He is maintaining at the moment. We're off camping in a few days and when we return he's going to push for the last bit off. I am trying to persuade him to let me post his before and after bc pics, as they are incredible. He was never fat, but had certainly porked up. Now he's all muscle and lean cheeked goodness phwoar

Ok, am getting prodded now. We're off to the indoor climbing wall....

Best lunch ever, and something I never would have considered before BC: leftover steamed black kale, microwaved with sliced Brie on top, then 4(!) rashers of bacon and a few cherry toms. Mmmmm. It has given me a bit of a thirst so I may have overdosed the bacon but I'm happily working my way through my fizzy water. Enjoying this WOE!

Crabby I can't wait to try the new refined berry crumble it sound delish. DH and I are both completely in love with you your recipes.

No weight loss for me as I keep screwing things up. I'm in 'low carb limbo' at the moment where you aren't eating enough carbs to run on glucose but you are eating too many carbs to run on fat. I have had a shit few weeks lately between the preemie baby, trying to juggle working and childcare, ill father, dog having to be put down etc. I know the answer is to surround myself with delicious low carb treats and get rid of all the carby crap in the house.

Alpro have launched a coconut yoghurt that is low carb (2.3g per 100g) and much cheaper than Coyo. It's no good for me because it contains soya but it is gluten, wheat and dairy free so it would be a good option for anyone cutting out dairy.

Another 2lbs off. I have upped my dairy intake and I have noticed a "looser" bowel. Is this a common side effect of too much yoghurt and cheese?

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time stunt. For what it's worth I've had a bloody good clear out of my kitchen cupboards and it felt great. I'm the only one here doing LC so the evil stuff is all in a high cupboard and the good stuff is in the cupboard next to the cooker. I was amazed at some of the shite I'd accidentally hoarded, and the dog was delighted by the sardines (best before 2008)!

Hello everyone, hope you're enjoying a relaxing Bank Holiday (if it applies to you).

I have to be honest and say I am nursing a slight hangover after attending a wedding yesterday. I won't give details but let's just say despite some fairly valiant efforts on the food front, I did succumb to booze for the first time in well over 2 weeks. After hopping on to my terrible, unreliable scales they appear to be telling me I've gained a 1lb since the weigh in last week but I wouldn't be surprised if this was in fact higher. This was only to be expected and actually I feel worse than that weigh in describes...so, I am prescribing myself another week of BC. I think I will begin with a good re-read of the rules! I know this woe really works because I did it by myself a year ago and trimmed down considerably. My problem was that the carbs crept back in but I didn't give up the full fat....

I am probably a little bit too excited about the arrival of my new digital scales and measuring tape tomorrow. I need to know I can rely on my measurements to stay motivated.

Well done to everyone carrying on with this woe Star, we all know it makes total sense, we just need to stay focused!

p.s. when the spreadsheet starts working please could someone add in 143lb for me? I can't add mine in either...

I never fart (maybe once a day at a push lol) on BC before i was like a farty old lab!!

I find the coconut oil has a laxative effect and i have never struggled with constipation on this woe.

I have had a few have you lost weight comments which is lovely - but since i have lost 2 and a bit stone in the last year its seems a long time for anyone to notice - still another 4st to go mind.

I am struggling with diet fatigue - i have been doing this since Jan but messing about a bit recently. The thing is i wont go back to eating what i did before, i think i will always lower carb and will prob avoid all processed carbs FOREVER as i have no control around them. Hubby keeps saying how he can really notice i have lost weight but scales arent really moving - hoping that my shape is changing due to the exercise. I did measure but i can never seem to get the tape measure in the right place to see if i have lost inches but i am now a size 16 rather than a large 20 so its def working.

Its a lovely day here and the sunshine is helping me to remember why i am doing this. Just back from a walk in the forest and sweated it out in jeans as i always do - this year want to wear some of my vast selection of dresses and actually dress like its summer. I might go and hang some around my bedroom to remind me why i am doing this!!!

I am also going to stop over thinking this - it works better when i concentrate on other things and just let the weightloss happen - whilst sticking to the rules. I am moving house ( when the bloody sellers do what they are supposed to) and have a poorly gran and 2 small children so i have plenty to keep my mind off of food!!!

I will just KOKO and have faith,i am too impatient.
