Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

BIWI Karbea joined us very late in the week so she might have missed the wrist slapping re:reporting cheats!

Anyone who knows me knows that Mash is not to be messed with.

But oh move over potatoes, Celtic is in da house!

My god it's good with pork belly... Even ds loved it! Is it possible to get frozen celeriac? Or should I just buy loads, Blanche it and freeze it myself?

Report
PeppermintFrog · 25/05/2015 18:58

Oooh celeriac mash, bet that's nice with bacon too. I usually have it in julienne strips, steamed then mixed with mayo. Tastes better cold.

Speaking of bacon, I've just realised that by grilling it I'm chucking half the arse-reducing fat in the bin. Newbie error!

Karbea go read them thar rules and if you can't stick to them you need to rethink. Please don't refer specifically to anything carby you've eaten as it is most unhelpful to the rest of us who are trying so hard to avoid all that crap. Thanks.

Hmm, I am a bit Hmm about posting on a low carb bootcamp with the name Karb ea and then all the non-carb stuff. Benefit of the doubt, but honestly, there are ladies on here who are doing their best in difficult circumstances and it is not the most sensitive. For future information, keep details of side-tracking to yourself.

I just spent the afternoon at a kid's party and stuck to water! I did order a coffee from the bar but it was lukewarm. On the way home, I bought some cocktail sausages to discover they had caster sugar in them - WTF?!?

Fortunately, I am still feeling bloated so not hungry at all really. I am going to have something for dinner as did not have any lunch in the end as I don't want to overeat tomorrow, but things certainly a bit odd here.

pata what an elegantly simple solution, brilliant!

B - courgettes fried in bacon fat (jar in the fridge still going strong since Jan BC - have a feeling it will be handed from generation to generation like a sourdough starter), eggs scr in a huge slice of butter - keep upping it to see just how much butter eggs can take before they are swimming and haven't found the tipping point yet, cuppa
L - an odd salad as really next to nothing in the house: blanched broccoli, hb eggs & prawns in loads of hm mayo, tsp almond butter, sq dark choc (thank god there is no dairy in that)
D - will be lc italian sausage in as little tomato sauce as possible over buttery courgetti

drank loads of rooibos with coconut oil and a hot marmite with butter as well as my water - glug!

peppermint x- post with you, yes keep that bacon fat. I have a jar in the fridge that I just keep adding leftover fat to when it has cooled a bit and scoop it out a big old spoonful at a time for frying stuff and if I could remember would use it for roasting too. We did swede chips in leftover fat from a pork roast last week and they were lovely.

Lex good plan. My house already smells like a burger van so a little recycled bacon lard could be just the thing. Thanks for the tip!

my house smells like a bounty factory. mmmm coconut, off to sainsburys tomorow to restock my cocnut oil and have a look for this magical coconut alpro yogurty goodness.
I went to the yankee candle shop today and am getting all my treats from there, I have alsorts of yummy things and not a consumed carb in site. Plus I have gone for sweet flavours for my vaping now so no shortage of treats and a fast reducing belly.

Would it be ok to mix coconut cream with Alpro plain yoghurt? Not too carby?

Hello hello. I've lost 4lb in total and now fit into my dress for a wedding next weekend. Hurrah! Am KOKO although I think I'm eating too much protein, not enough fat.

Brunch:
Sausage 2, bacon 2, fried egg 1, black pudding slices 2 (I know, not good), fried mushrooms in olive oil 50 grammes. Had to go and lie down after that lot.
Dinner: salmon trimmings with butternut squash, broccoli, carrot and cherry toms. I know that's not good either but is it ok for BC light?

opps just posted this on the week 2 thread.

Does anyone else get a sort of fizzy feeling across their tummy the night before a loss? Its odd not like gurgling tummy much smaller just kind of vibrating a little bit, then next moring always more off than usual.

B fried egg, rasher of bacon and 2 lc chipolata a
L corned beef spread with butter and remoulade. Weird but not a never again meal!
D courgetti bolognese - added extra coconut oil stuntnun read your post re mushrooms as I was cooking made me laugh.
Oh and as an appetiser an avocado and Mayo
I go to Costco and buy coconut oil and flour there. Haven't used the flour yet but making a
good dent in the oil.
3.5 l water - done
Tomorrow swap one chipolata for another egg - no corned beef for lunch
I have tried not to think in terms of calories but where can I add fat. I know one day isn't a whole way of life but days add up to weeks, weeks add up to months etc etc and to day is a good day and that makes tomorrow likely to be good too.

Another 1 lb off here which I'm happy with as I'm still not eating/drinking enough as I've still got a damn cough and it's totm. I may have to go to the doctor this week. When I have eaten I've stuck rigidly to BC and I'm not hungry. I find the drinking enough the hardest with a baby as I can go most of the day running about after him and only realise in the eve I haven't drunk anything.

Well done everyone so far and good luck for week 3

For the water thing, maybe get a bottle of sparkling and chin that then refill with tap water and keep in the fridge/by your kettle/carry it round with you and that will be both a reminder to drink and a measure of how much you have drunk? That's my plan for tomorrow. Wink

Thanks for all the concern and suggestions of solutions to my stomach weirdness! I have decided now that I think it is a bug of some kind - I checked my temperature earlier and it was a bit raised and I did feel better after taking Panadol. I will give it until Wednesday and if it's not improved by then I will see the Dr.

I can't remember who asked but I don't have any food intolerances and have always eaten pretty much everything I am eating these days, albeit in lesser quantities. I am definitely eating more eggs than usual and probably more 'obvious' fat in terms of oil, cheese, cream etc. But my old diet, at its worse would have had plenty of crap fat in it, along with carbs, so I don't necessarily think I am eating loads more fat, if that makes sense?

My plan now is to only eat if I am actually hungry until I feel better, and i will avoid the richer type of boot camp foods as they make me feel a but nauseous at the mo.

Has anyone managed to come up with a non-caffeine/non coffee/non-chai version of BPC? I think I need to up my fat intake so quite fancy trying it in a drink form but coffee & chai are no good to me...has anyone tried with normal black tea?

I have coconut oil in earl grey tea with no milk or butter and it tastes nice. I don't usually have milk in tea though. I put a couple of teaspoons in

Gcalgske · 25/05/2015 21:19

I had coconut oil in my black tea when I was visiting a friend last week, it was nice. Fruit teas are good with coconut oil (those of the more tropical variety are particularly good) or bullet proof cocoa (make cocoa as packet directions with unsweetened almond milk and then add the coconut milk and butter and blitz)

I have been more BC lite than BC and even stretching that, so back on the straight and narrow for me. I have some ball thing to go to in two weekends time and want to feel as good as I can. I know if I stick to it, I'll feel great (even if I am still large!).

Well done on all the losses, dress/jeans fitting etc Flowers Star

I have just caught up with whole thread now. I am going to have to plan the next few days quite carefully as am out and about.

I have been reading the FODMAP stuff for IBS as mine seems to have flared up (gas, bloating, complete bungs) in a way which has not happened at all on this WOE. The high FODMAP foods make IBS worse, so the plan goes. This last week I had a bit of an experiment with green veg and have had leeks, asparagus and celery, all I would not normally have and all of which, it turns out, are on the high FODMAP list. So I will be choosing my BC veg to be compatible with low FODMAP veg.

According to this, soya milk is also high FODMAP - I am allergic to dairy and to tree nuts, so not sure what that leaves Hmm. Rice milk which might not be BC friendly or nothing.

So I am going to sit down and work out a BC friendly FODMAP friendly plan and see what happens. My stomach is not thanking me for the leek, asparagus and celery experimenting last week!

Today
b was one scrambled egg, spinach, one sausage
L did not happen, apart from a couple of sugary cocktail sausages
D was green salad, cucumber and burger - half of the lot still in the fridge.

So eaten hardly anything and feel like my stomach is about to explode.

Sorry for the TMI.
