Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - you've survived the first fortnight!

Hello everyone. Smile I'm starting this week's thread as BIWI's away and Sayra's internet connection is a bit unreliable.

Here is the The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Here is the weight tracker.

So firstly, a massive WELL DONE! for surviving the first fortnight. You now have the option of moving to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can introduce low carb fruits (berries, basically - raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants) and nuts to your diet. Be careful though, as this can add a lot of carbs. Nuts, especially, can be very moreish. Some people stay longer on Bootcamp proper, some do Bootcamp Light at weekends and drink wine. I'm sure BIWI will be along when she gets the chance, to give you all some pointers.

Good luck with the weigh in, everyone, and please remember that weight loss is not a linear thing. Don't be discouraged if you haven't seen as much of a loss as you'd like - just KOKO and The Whoosh Fairy will visit you, whisking away a sudden whoosh of weight. Wink

Cocoa blended with cream and then made up with hot water is a good hot chocolate equivalent. I've done it bpchoc too, but cant remember what it was like, it was ages ago.

Bp chai tea for breakfast as not really hungry. Yesterday i made a mim with about four raspberries in it. I highly recommend it!!

Morning All, Have weighed in and stayed the same - which as I put on 2lbs, during the week, and then lost them seems Ok, think that removing cheese from the diet for the time being is the way forward - have another weekend away this weekend, however Dad will be in charge of the cooking so not too worried - he loves a Carb Free Cookery Challenge!!!!

Only issue is can't seem to add to spreadsheet - don't think I am alone in this!! please can someone add 167 to my week three - TIA.

Today will be:
B - BPF and some Pate
L - Salmon, salad, mayo, pork scratchings
D - Fried eggs, mushrooms, and sausages
W - 3 liters

Have a great day!!

thumb I've done courgette crisps. It's a very fine line between too soggy and burnt to a crisp, but I do them either in the frying pan in oil, or on a baking tray. I think I'd get pretty good results if I did them in the frying pan properly, instead of starting off properly, ie laying them out flat, not having too many in the pan, and turning them individually. What actually happens, is I get bored, chuck a load in at once - burn some, then have some floppy ones..... The ones that cook properly are always lush.

I think the yoghurt monster is hating the coconut. It's souring everything, and separating it.....

I've given it some cows milk to see if that works..... I'll use it for smoothies for the dcs.

Incidentally, I made smoothies for them the other day using various fruits, alpro coconut milk, and an avocado. They couldn't taste the avocado, and I froze the leftovers in glasses with a stick in to make lollies.

I thought it was a great way to sneak some avocado into them Grin

We had a mega power cut last night. Apparently there was an explosion underneath the street, which caused a gas leak. Took them all evening to sort, so we played Settlers of Catan by hurricane lamp. Thank goodness we cook on gas, which was still on, so dinner in the dark was a courgette and bacon tortilla, with a green salad and avocado and mayonnaise. I couldn't finish my tortilla but I just ate the leftovers for breakfast with some chorizo and a cup of lady grey with alpro almond milk.

I had a bulletproof chai yesterday, and a bulletproof choco chilli and both of the were really lovely, comforting drinks. The glass blender jug seems fine with the hot water for now, so I'll continue with that.

Off to a farm shop today. Need to get some supplies in for the impending camping trip. We're leaving on Thursday first thing, and will be back Sunday night. Really excited, as I love camping, and hardly ever go on holiday. I have decided to make it more of a priority.

Hissy cornflour is too high carb even for BClite. Parmesan by itself works as a coating if you do egg white/ Parmesan. I also like crushed pork scratchings but you need to get them finely ground. I also like coconut flour, egg and dessicated coconut- delicious on fish and prawns!

Thumb I like courgette crisps. Work best in the deep fat fryer but as trash says the line between golden and burnt is about 0.00005 milliseconds...
I slice them in the mandolin, dry well with kitchen paper then fry.

I counted yesterday Gcalske and I was embarrassed to discover I have twelve slings! Blush So yes to the babywearing. My 2.5 year old DS3 had reflux and still has issues with dairy, soya and egg so it's just more of the same here. As I'm breastfeeding DS4 I'm trying to combine low carb with no dairy or eggs which is pretty challenging. Breakfasts are a particular problem and I'm finding that I'm hungry a lot of the time so it's extra difficult to stay away from the carbs.

Ok cool, thanks. I do butter fry my mandolin-sliced courgettes for lunchtime omelettes, but butter doesn't make them crisp (this was a revelation, did everyone else know this? Butter = soft frying, oil = crispy frying! found out because DH was frying the salmon in oil while I do it in butter - totally different results. Mines is obviously better Wink)

Will give it a go - mandolin slice, pat dry, salt both sides, then pan fry in olive oil. I don't use any other form of oil, and I don't even have a deep fryer! Will let you know tomorrow (not going to try it tonight!) Will also try doing them in the oven after tossing in oil and salt.

Thanks for all the tips! :)

Thread moving so fast I can't remember who said they hate coconut. You might want to try biona cuisine - hand to god I am in no way sponsored by them - but it's a lightly steamed coconut oil which has no taste but retains the health benefits/ MCT's.
Also I think in the last BC someone mentioned twinnings Assam with hazelnut and cocoa. THANKYOU. Just having some now with almond milk. Delicious!

Just tried to add yesterday's weight to the spreadsheet and it seems I can't update it either now which is weird (just using my same old laptop).

The good news from checking the sheet is that I realised I actually lost 1lb over the week - thought last week's weight was 184lb but it was 185lb!

Is there any chance someone who can use the spreadsheet could add 184 in for me for 25th May?

I've made courgette crisps quite a few times and they always burn or get soggy. I tend to do them in the oven but maybe frying them is better to get that crispness. Reminded me to get a few more courgettes for the weekly shop, thanks Smile

Has anyone tried the little's coffee sold in waitrose, Is it worth buying, as far as I can tell online, there doesn't seem to be sugars added.

I've have the amoretto and Irish cream littles instant coffee. It's nice. A good way to get a flavoured coffee without adding nasty artificial sweeteners.

Be warned though, the amoretto one smells like the real deal (cue hubby giving you stink eye because he thinks you're boozing at 11am on a Tuesday!)

Gcalgske & LexLoofah thanks - although pork scratchings cost a FORTUNE and are FAR too nice to pulverise and not just scarfe them from the packet :)

I don't suppose much would be needed though. i need another excuse to buy them, they are not always easy to get hold of though!

whereabouts in the supermarket would coconut flour be situated? with other flours? do tescos etc stock it? I have dessicated coconut already ! yay

i am trying to use less dairy/cheese - how can i inject more fat into my food - I am eating avocados as often as poss, 1 total per day, I eat mayo too.

I am on 3rd L bottle of water, all I have to do is drink the bucket glass on my desk, and the water in the bottle on the side of my desk and I am there. Can't wait until i lose more weight so I can consume less water...

oh dear. The new scales had bad news for me Sad. True weight is considerably higher than what I thought it was. I will update the spreadsheet accordingly. The body fat, water, muscle and bone density estimates were interesting - for me and for DH, we seem to be in the healthy ranges apart from both lacking in enough muscle! My BMI is also in the overweight range (no surprise there). I think I saw someone was looking for a set of scales so if you're interested this is the set of scales that I have just started using (from Amazon):

Ozeri Touch II 200 KG / 440 LBS Total Body Bathroom Scale -- Measures Weight, Body Fat, Hydration, Muscle and Bone Mass with Auto Recognition

At least I know what I'm worrying with now and I'm now even more determined to KOKO! (Keep on Keeping On!)

I'm on my second cup of black tea with coconut oil. I think I like it!
