Week 2 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - our first official weigh-in!

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the the Weight Tracker (I hope that link works but apologies if it doesn't!)

So we come to our first weigh-in. I know from last week's thread that results are going to be a bit mixed - but I hope that most of you will see a good loss.

If you haven't, don't panic! Sometimes it can take a bit of time for your body to trust you, especially if you're a bit of a serial dieter.

If you think you've been doing everything according to the rules, but still haven't seen a loss, then list out for me your meals over the last 3 or 4 days and let me see if I can spot anything obvious.

But whatever the results are today, please remember it's not a competition!

We all lose weight at different rates. And someone who sees a big loss in one week isn't going to see that every week.

And remember - it's not all about what the scales tell you. You'll find that your body shape can change even if the scales remain unchanged!

Good luck to you all.

Hi all, checking in with food for the day:

B - eggs scrambled in butter with mushroom and wilted spinach. Coffee
L - creamy chicken and mushroom soup
S - some cubes of cheese
D - a kind of fish stew with fennel, leeks, shallot, celery, garlic fried in butter and oil, added saffron, stock, tomatoes (lowest carb tinned ones I could find) and cream, then added prawns, salmon and asparagus until all cooked. Dh had his with crusty bread, I had mine with roast cauli.

shebedee · 18/05/2015 22:53

SayraT · 18/05/2015 23:01

No, thats fine shebedee the spreadsheet does all the calculations itself Grin

readyforno2 · 18/05/2015 23:07

Could someone please update my weight? 145.2 thanks Smile

dillite · 18/05/2015 23:59

BIWI can I have a cup on coffee drink, or is it too carby? I usually have it with milk, but could add cream instead? And only once a day.

Week 2 - May Low Carb Bootcamp - our first official weigh-in!
DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2015 00:23

Lots of extra fat added today. I've noticed that I haven't really felt hungry & consequently my portion sizes have been smaller.

B: FF Greek yogurt with added cream
S: Bulletproof tea, just to get some more fat on board
L: Two eggs scrambled in coconut oil & butter, two sausages
D: Small portion of corned beef hash from the Idiot Proof Diet Cookbook, on a bed of spinach leaves and with a fried egg on top - surprisingly yummy

Loads of water, a good 3 litres.

Gcalgske · 19/05/2015 00:32

B: coffee with u/s almond milk, 100g lidl Greek yoghurt with 10g soaked flax and a couple of Debbie and Andrews sausages
L: smoked salmon, 1/2 HB egg, 1/2 small avocado, capers, shallot, cucumber, tomato, all drizzled inolive oil

LexLoofah · 19/05/2015 01:59

hangonaminute this is how I made the meatzza but without the toppings she used, just did a tomato and butter sauce by reducing a can/jar of crushed tomatoes with generous slice of butter until very thick (about 20 mins on the hob, blipping away or just use something like a sundried tomato pesto sauce ), so thin spread of that, a thinly sliced mini pepper and shallot then mozzarella and Parmesan - would be gilding the lily to add pepperami or something else meaty I think

A 450g pack of mince did two meatzzas between me Dh and 2 DCs with a side salad

LexLoofah · 19/05/2015 02:26

Change of plan for dinner as DH ate out with the DCS so I had sofa picnic of roast pork spread with butter, crackling, cucumber and dill pickles

Dumdedumdedum · 19/05/2015 05:15

Had a bit of a catastrophe in RL yesterday, so skipped lunch and had it for supper. Despite having the runs after days of blockage (sorry, TMI), have still only lost half a pound!
Am v pleased that though my first instinct post-catastrophe was to reach for a soothing glass of wine, saying feck it, I've not had any wine for BC and it's made absolutely no difference to my weight, I resisted and drank water. I have a feeling things can only get worse today so am hardening my resolve.
Suzymoo3 Condolences from me, too, on your FIL's death and congratulations on sticking to your guns during an awful time.

Romeyroo · 19/05/2015 06:19

Dumde, sending you lots of resolve to stick with the water - well done on not diving into the wine... I drink sparkling water, as I find it hard to drink normal water, so maybe thinking of how you like to drink water might help? As sparkling water is an added expense and I am a single parent, it feels like a treat for me.

suzy, I hope that you are doing okay, I am really sorry for your bereavement.

I think, as millionsmom said, Biwi, I did find reading about this WOE a big eye-opener, it is more that I am early 40s and have had at least 20 years of low-fat conditioning and that calories in (food) has to be balanced by calories out (exercise) - or if you wanted to lose weight calories out had to exceed calories in. That was (and still is) the orthodoxy and it is still massively socially ingrained.

So, it is not about doubting the science; I am convinced by that, otherwise I would not be doing it. I find the science, and that people have had the courage to challenge the ingrained orthodoxy, amazing and SO beneficial. But I need BC and this thread to keep reminding me to get the fat in, because while I understand the concept, I still need to think when I am applying it, if that makes sense. It is almost scary how much power received wisdom (and massively promoted wisdom) has. And getting philosophical, I think if you have courage to challenge received wisdom in one area of your life, it is helpful in finding your own path in others.

Biggest loser suggestion, from Sayra - I wonder if this could be somewhere on the spreadsheet, maybe as a separate tab, so people could look at it if they want to? It is one of the things which people might find demoralising if they are stalled or one of those who does not lose weight so quickly, but changes body shape. So, having the information to access as a choice might be better?

Tetley650 · 19/05/2015 08:49

Dilite can you get coffee without whitener? That stuff is just carbs. Much better plain coffee and add cream.

sassandfaff · 19/05/2015 09:23

Morning.

I measured myself a week or two ago for the first time- just my waist and the fastest part of my squidge! I've not changed much on the scale but I am 1 inch down in my waist and 3 inches down on my squidge. Very very happy about that.

Suzy Thanks

sassandfaff · 19/05/2015 09:24

preminstrel x post. Hope she is OK? Thanks

sassandfaff · 19/05/2015 09:25

Tetley650 · 19/05/2015 11:02

If anybody wants Thai curry pastes that are free from sugar and come from Thailand ( not the garlic based ones in our supermarkets) try Mae Ploy brand on www.thai-food-online.co.uk. I have four different ones in the fridge and none have sugar in the ingredients and all have chilli listed first!! Doesn't chilli help speed up the metabolism? Now which previous diet incarnation was that ?!!!?
