BIWI · 10/05/2015 22:07

Welcome! From experience, the first couple of weeks of every Bootcamp sees very fast moving chat threads, and so if you have a question, it's easy for it to be missed.

So post anything you want to ask on this thread and I and the other experienced low carbers will try and keep and eye on it and give you our best answers.

biwi I don't know if you remember me from last year, but I need help Sad

I did Jan 2014 bootcamp and lost 2.5st. I was at a great weight (5'7" 140lb) which I maintained until July. Then I went and got myself upduffed Blush

Baby is now 12 weeks old. I started LCHF again on 1st April. Starting weight of 169lb.

I'm afraid I started making up for lost time regarding wine, and was bloody enjoying 3/4 bottles a week. I was still shocked that I wasn't loosing weight very fast (got down to 161lb) Hmm

This carried on until last week where I gave my head a wobble and got a grip.

So last week I stopped wine entirely. I did have a friends birthday night out on Friday, but I only had 2 glasses of prosecco and a diet coke. And apparently I've put on weight and I'm now 163lb.

I'm so so upset it's untrue. I'm struggling to get a grip. I HATE my body, HATE that my clothes don't fit, and will do anything to be back down to 145lb ish.

Please please help me again. What am I doing wrong Sad

What's the BCLite position on sugar free jelly? I'm feeling ropey still and could right go a low carb cheesecake mousse I used to make but it involves a sf jelly.

monkeyfacegrace · 31/05/2015 13:58

I thought it was okay once out of the 2 week initial bit. I used to eat it by the bucketful with double cream.

Gcalgske · 31/05/2015 14:04

monkey I know the feeling. I tried to diet quite soon after childbirth with no will power and ended up gaining loads. A kind friend reminded me that my baby was very young and my body was still recovering from childbirth and making a HUMAN BEING (which is an everyday miracle). If you had a relatively sweet wine like proseco it can cause a stall/ water weight gain but it will be short term. You need to be kind to yourself, nourish your body with tasty low carb food and koko. It will work. Flowers

Gcalgske · 31/05/2015 14:11

To clarify I'm not saying you have no will power - that was me. It's just I can relate to the feeling of hating your body at that time. X

BIWI · 31/05/2015 14:32

monkey yes, I remember you! Welcome back! Flowers

I think, to be honest, you are being a little bit too impatient. If you've only just knocked the wine on the head, then really you've only just started back on Bootcamp, haven't you?

Having said that, why don't you list out what you've been eating and drinking over the last week and let me see if there's anything I can help you with.

monkeyfacegrace · 31/05/2015 15:06

gcal thanks Flowers
Having a baby isn't new to me, she was pregnancy number 4! I popped her out the Friday night and was back up the hills with the dogs Saturday morning Blush

I'm not breastfeeding so haven't got to worry about calories there.

Today I've had 3 eggs fried with butter, and courgette slices fried in butter for breakfast, then 250g of fatty mince meat fried with salt pepper and a dollop of butter on the top (fat central!).
Dinner will be a flaxseed pizza (1 cup of ground flaxseed, one egg, olive oil, one tablespoon tinned tomatoes, bacon and cheese and fresh basil to top. Poss a bowl of freshly whipped cream too for pudding Blush

Drinking 2-3l of fizzy water with a dash of NAS squash per day, and about 4 cans of Pepsi max (yes yes I know, but we've rowed over this before!)

lots of the time occasionally I'll eat bags of pork scratchings and lumps of cheese.

And lots of ceaser salads with skin on chicken thighs/legs.

monkeyfacegrace · 31/05/2015 15:08

Oh I've been eating whole aubergines sliced up and layered with tinned tomatoes, minced meat, and cheese then oven cooked. Lushious!

I guess I'm just tired which is making it harder too.

Gcalgske · 31/05/2015 15:36

Tiredness can be a killer x

BIWI · 31/05/2015 16:08

monkey

Today I've had 3 eggs fried with butter, and courgette slices fried in butter for breakfast, then 250g of fatty mince meat fried with salt pepper and a dollop of butter on the top (fat central!).

All good on the fat and protein front, but there's not much veg going on here is there? Remember, you're supposed to be getting your carbs from veg and/or salad

Dinner will be a flaxseed pizza (1 cup of ground flaxseed, one egg, olive oil, one tablespoon tinned tomatoes, bacon and cheese and fresh basil to top. Poss a bowl of freshly whipped cream too for pudding blush

Again - not much veg! And be careful - flaxseed is something that can impede weight loss for some people, even if it is low carb. Nothing wrong with the whipped cream, as long as you know that you don't have an issue with dairy

Drinking 2-3l of fizzy water with a dash of NAS squash per day, and about 4 cans of Pepsi max (yes yes I know, but we've rowed over this before!)

This could be where you're going wrong. You really do have to knock the artificial sweeteners on the head! It's not just in the Pepsi Max but also in the squash.

lots of the time occasionally I'll eat bags of pork scratchings and lumps of cheese.

Perfect - with the same caveat about dairy!

And lots of ceaser salads with skin on chicken thighs/legs.

Perfect. I hope you're also using an oily dressing on the salad?

I know you don't want to believe that the Pepsi Max/Squash could be a problem, but you do have to consider this. Why do you think you can't do without them? Could you even just cut it down by half?

monkeyfacegrace · 31/05/2015 17:29

I have cut down by more than half BIWI.

I have never been able to drink water. It makes me gag. I've tried mineral waters, tap water, fizzy water. All makes me heave. Without that dash of squash I can't drink it. If I can't have that dash of squash then I can't do this woe Sad

I also hate veg so anything is an improvement for me Grin
The salad is usually lettuce, radish, grated cheese, full fat ceaser dressing.

I also eat broccoli and cauliflower by the bowlful covered in cheese and butter.

Am I allowed butternut squash? I could eat a whole oven roasted one of those if I'm allowed?

BIWI · 31/05/2015 18:08

Butternut squash is a little bit carby, but if you're not having too much - given that you don't like other veg Grin I'd say it was OK.

If I say that the squash is OK will you at least give up the Pepsi Max? Wink

OP posts:
monkeyfacegrace · 31/05/2015 18:42

No. I'd stick my tongue out at you and just promise not to mention it on the bootcamp thread Grin

Tbf I lost 30lb on the Jan 2014 bootcamp without giving it up so I'm going to stick with the theory that my body doesn't mind it Wink

I'm having wine tonight. I've been drinking 4/5 bottles a week, but am now sticking to just weekends. I've got a bottle open, and it's illegal to pour it away so it's got to go tonight. I'm going to have roast chicken breast with cauliflower and brocolli cheese. Then a bowl of whipped cream which is about a gazillion calories, 50% of which is fat, and you said it's fine so nerrrrr

monkeyfacegrace · 31/05/2015 18:44

Then Mon-Fri I'm on it like Sonic. I need to stop weighing daily, too.

I WILL be hot again, you'll see Grin

Thanks BIWI Flowers

Can't open spreadsheet on my iPad because I'm virtually tech illiterate (sure it's easy just never works for me)

Hattieboomboom · 31/05/2015 22:29

Think this is one for BIWI..another question on energy levels. I've literally just started low carbing, but am doing a 30 mile charity bike ride on Saturday. I'm only two days in, and I'm sure you'll wonder why I didn't just wait but I've been trying and failing to do this for weeks - this time I can tell I'm in the right frame of mind to stick to it! Do you think my body will have converted to fat burning by Saturday, and I'll have enough energy? Or should I eat some healthy carbs the morning of the bike ride? Or maybe I should keep on low carbing but take some emergency carbs in case I'm really struggling? What effect would that have? The ride is important to me as it's the first time I've done anything like it and am new to cycling. TIA

BIWI · 31/05/2015 22:33

monkey just bear in mind that you came here asking about why you weren't losing weight ...

Gcalgske - it's OK on BCL, but in moderation. In general, the idea is to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible, and specifically because we're trying to avoid too much sweet stuff. But every now and then is fine

Hattie you definitely won't have switched to fat burning by then, so I'd probably continue to carb-load, and not bother about Bootcamp until after you've done your bike ride.

Is sparkling water OK to drink while following this WOE? I have mostly regular water but as I have to drink over 4 L due to being such a whale, I find a fruity tea bag added to a litre bottle of soda or sparkling water adds much needed excitement.

juneavrile · 01/06/2015 12:13

Can somebody tell me how to add myself to the spreadsheet. I joined in last Wednesday and have stuck to the plan. Just find myself completely incapable of using excel and don't want to break anything....

Am also trying to shift some baby weight - 5 months post partum.

BIWI · 01/06/2015 13:34

Definitely, shebedee! It's what I drink all the time. when I'm not drinking gin

I had a chocolate coyo today, which was lovely, but had stevia in. Does anyone know if stevia is ok, or is it like artificial sweeteners?

BIWI · 01/06/2015 21:47

Stevia is being touted as a natural sweetener, because it comes from a plant.

However, there's some controversy about it. Hang on, let me see what I can find
