Welcome! From experience, the first couple of weeks of every Bootcamp sees very fast moving chat threads, and so if you have a question, it's easy for it to be missed.

So post anything you want to ask on this thread and I and the other experienced low carbers will try and keep and eye on it and give you our best answers.

Beyond my local Tesco sells small 200ml cartons of rice milk which would be ideal for camping. I took some to the hospital when I was in having DS4 so I wouldn't have to drink black tea and coffee.

Fatstacks · 19/05/2015 15:04

soy milk tastes like rancid camel wee

diggerdigsdogs · 19/05/2015 15:33

BIWI here we get "pure cream" which I think is single cream, thickened cream which is 35% milk fat and contains gelatin and double thickened cream (the most expensive) which is 45% milk fat and possible contains gelatin (I can't remember). I had assumed that double cream in the UK was like thickened cream here but wanted to check.

DextersMistress · 19/05/2015 16:43

Hi all I've just ventured over here for the first time, there's a few threads so if someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful! Should I start with the rules? Can anyone link please?

Fatstacks · 19/05/2015 16:57

Pop over to week 2 thread Dexters and the opening post has a link Smile

Then when you've recovered from the massive spreadsheet say hi and jump in!

DextersMistress · 19/05/2015 17:21

Thanks Smile

Bootcamp is the whole thing from the 2 week strict phase through to the 8 week lite phase and the forever maintenance. The dessert recipes are there for BCLite and maintenance as well as special occasions.

If you look at the rules and the ingredients in the desserts then I bet most of them (if not all) contain something not allowed in the 2 week strict phase like nuts or fruit.

SayraT · 19/05/2015 18:19

Oh, sorry, I missed a page Blush

BIWI · 19/05/2015 22:40

digger - sorry I can't remember - where are you?

In the UK all cream is just pure cream - nothing else added. The only thing that distinguishes it is the level of fat. Single cream has less than double. But absolutely nothing else added.

In Aus. Thanks BIWI, I really appreciate it.

Ok, next shop I'll have a good look and make sure I get the right one. Definitely didn't this time Hmm

diggerdigsdogs · 20/05/2015 02:06

I've had a Google. I'm going to have to use a different supermarket to get the right cream. One of the double creams here does have a thickener in it, the other two don't. :)

Hello
I am doing BC for the first time, although I have followed LC ways of eating before.
I am sure this has been asked loads of times before, so my apologies if it has.
I lost 7 lbs in the first week Grin which is great. I actually lost them by Thursday last week..... I weighed myself this morning as a mid week check and I haven't lost an ounce since last Friday, I have been eating the same foods and exercising to the same level - does this happen sometimes?

I am doing C25k so exercising 3x a week and I am hoping to lose another 8-10lbs ( I am in the 'healthy BMI range) and, as an example of my food:

Breakfast - 1 avocado, 100 g FF greek yoghurt
I also have tea through the day ( I allocate a milk allowance of 150-200 ml)

Lunch - salmon fillet, cottage cheese and big salad (sometimes an egg too)

Dinner - omelette, cooked with butter, with asparagus, onions and olives with broccoli and courgette with more butter

I am keeping my carbs below 40g per day and my KCal tend to come in at 1000-1200, I don't eat pork/beef/lamb but do eat fish, chicken and turkey.
Could it be that I am just adjusting to the 7 lbs loss and will start again soon?
Many thanks for any thoughts/comments.

StuntNun · 20/05/2015 12:53

Heffalumps weight loss doesn't happen linearly so expect it to go in fits and starts. You may have trouble losing weight with eating so little though, especially if you're exercising as well. If you're already tracking your calories then it can be an idea to keep an eye on your macros, you probably want to aim at 5%carbs, 20% protein, 75% fat.

Heffalumps · 20/05/2015 13:35

Thank you StuntNun I will look at Macros
I do tend to get to 1200Kc a day rather than 1000 - maybe I will look to eating more? I'm not sure what though, I am looking forward to eating berries though + could happily eat them with a generous helping of cream Smile

Dumdedumdedum · 21/05/2015 06:58

Hi everyone! Quick question - I accidentally bought some single instead of double cream when I managed to find cream on the shelves the other day. Can I use it, or should it always be double cream?

shebedee · 21/05/2015 17:54

Hi all - Is it OK to cook with rapeseed oil or sunflower oil? I generally use butter and a blob of coconut oil for shallow frying but have been using different oils when roasting.

StuntNun · 21/05/2015 18:11

They're okay from a low carb point of view but generally considered to be poor from a paleo/primal point of view because of their high omega 6 content. I use duck fat, goose fat, lard, dripping and olive oil for roasting.

TheCowThatLaughs · 21/05/2015 20:40

I've had a metallic taste in my mouth for the last 2 days, after doing the Bootcamp for nearly 2 weeks (I started a couple of days early)
Does it mean I've just gone into ketosis?
And...does it mean I've got smelly breath?
TIA Smile

Patapouf · 22/05/2015 11:45

That can be a symptom of ketosis cow breath may be a little disgusting for a while as a result Grin

shebedee · 22/05/2015 18:20

I have very bad pain in my lower back that started a week ago .I put it down to muscle stuff as I've been gardening. I'm not so sure now as it's just not going away. I'm only able to sleep with heavy duty painkillers and need Ibuprofen 2 or 3 times a day. It's not that I'm a wimp, it's juts intolerable pain lower left side of my back. Worried it might be kidneys. Could this have been triggered by changing my diet. Anyone who has had kidney stuff have any info? Can't see doc until Tuesday.

BIWI · 22/05/2015 18:24

Why on earth would you think it would be your diet?! What have you been eating that makes you think this? I'm sorry you're in such pain but can't see how giving up pasta, rice, bread and sugar could cause this.

OP posts:
shebedee · 22/05/2015 18:45

I know I'm over worrying but years of conditioning make me worry about the high levels of fat I'm consuming. Otherwise I feel great and I'm sure it will turn out to be disc or muscle related but I thought I'd ask as when I look on NHS sites, there is a reference to symptoms of kidney problems and I know the kidneys process fats. Mad logic I'm sure.

CrabbyTheCrabster · 22/05/2015 19:18

Sheb... If you have a pre-existing kidney issue (that you might not be aware of), a high protein diet can cause kidney issues. I don't think that would cause kidney pain, though, necessarily; an infection usually does that, which is completely unrelated to diet. To my knowledge, dietary fat doesn't have an impact on the kidneys (more the gall bladder and GIT).

Have you massively increased the protein component of your diet? If so, it might be worth getting checked out by the GP if you're still in pain after the weekend. In the meantime, remember that your intake of protein shouldn't change much on this WOE; it's more about reversing the proportions of fat and carbs, so high fat low carb, moderate protein.

nearly1stonelighter · 22/05/2015 19:33

BIWI am driving down to portsmouth and the only option will probably be mcdonalds. their grilled chicken and bacon salad is 10g carbs. is that too many for 1 meal?

also has anyone successfully made their own version of co yo yoghurt without using a yoghurt maker as I don't have one.

nearly1stonelighter · 22/05/2015 19:34

that is 10g carbs in total i don't know what it is per 100g as not sure what the serving size is.
