Welcome! From experience, the first couple of weeks of every Bootcamp sees very fast moving chat threads, and so if you have a question, it's easy for it to be missed.

So post anything you want to ask on this thread and I and the other experienced low carbers will try and keep and eye on it and give you our best answers.

From experience of previous Bootcamps it seems quite common that people go less on a low carb diet, so I wouldn't worry about it. But getting out for a walk is probably a good idea anyway! Grin

dill - look for fatty cuts of meat, like belly pork or breast of lamb, or fatty mince - they are all cheaper than their lean equivalents. I don't spend any more money that I used to. And look out for The Black Farmer sausages - they are really low in carbs.

StuntNun · 16/05/2015 19:15

M&S do 95% sausages and chipolatas, and Debbie and Andrew's do 97% sausages if you can't get Black Farmer ones.

dillite · 16/05/2015 19:16

Maybe we are like dogs when they go raw?

LexLoofah · 16/05/2015 20:59

BiWI and stunt thanks

I eat a fair amount of oily fish but DH eats none so will carry on with the omega oil capsules.

I do agree on separate specific rather than multi but not an option at the moment so yes viewing as a catch all safety net rather than Main way of getting enough.

Vit D levels fine right now as we get plenty sun exposure but when we move back to the UK will start with the bio available drops or something as expect our levels will plummet

FresherThanYou · 16/05/2015 21:04

3lbs down Grin
B: protein shake
L: cauliflower & bacon muffins
D: black farmer sausage x 2 in lettuce & Boursin

miffy49 · 17/05/2015 12:41

Dill I actually find that I spend less on my food now than I do for DH and DS who are ardent SW. If you do LCHF ( which is basically BC/BC light) you fill up on fat and LC veg rather than your protein sources. You can pick up good bargains in Aldi when it comes to veg. I usually buy their frozen chicken too. I know its skinless but it stops the rest of the family whining about fat and I slap some mayo or a cream sauce on mine and we're all happy! Grin

ewanhoozami · 17/05/2015 22:47

dillite I'm just posting this to remind myself to find some of my old meal plans from when I started LCing a few years ago and was proper skint.

basically a combo of meal planning, tactical shopping and inventive use of cheap cuts and ingredients.

diggerdigsdogs · 18/05/2015 03:15

Speaking of vit d - I live in Aus and both dh and I have got d levels that were considered low enough to be given vit d supplements by Dr.

I've just made a tea and want to check if it's ok-

20g butter
20 g coconut milk
Table spoon of chia
Good splash of coconut & almond milk
Chai tea bag.

3 questions:

is that ok for breakfast if I'm in a rush?
Is chia ok on bootcamp lite?
The chai is a twinings one and includes natural flavourings. Is there any chance that includes sugar?

I'm on bootcamp lite as bf.

diggerdigsdogs · 18/05/2015 03:16

20g Coconut OIL not coconut milk. Gah!

BIWI · 18/05/2015 07:35

What does it say on the back of the pack?

But more importantly, why are you not eating breakfast? I know you're doing Bootcamp Light, but if you're breastfeeding, it's important that you eat properly.

Chia would be OK on BL, I think - as it's a seed - but do you know how many carbs are in a tablespoon? Just check that it's not too carby as you could very quickly end up adding a lot of carbs to your day!

dill this is a meal plan from when I was on a tight budget

smoked mackerel kedgeree
roast cauli, feta and toasted almond salad
corned beef hash w/ leek & swede
3 ways with a chicken: roast, coronation / bangbang, chicken and soup (any MNer who says they can get more than three meals out of a chicken is talking shit Grin )
sardine fishcakes and salad
Chicken liver peri peri and cauli rice
crustless quiche made with whatever's left in the fridge (spinach? ham and a bit of brie?)

If you have a Lidl near you they are heaven for LCing. Fantastic meat, decent good value veg & salad (celeriac and echalion shallots are always available at mine) great cheese and those 1l tubs of greek yog.

When I'm in Asda or similar I'll grab their bargain shelf / yellow sticker meat when I see a good reduction and freeze it.

And even if you haven't got room to grow your own veg, a pot of herbs can add interesting flavours for not many ££

ewanhoozami · 18/05/2015 09:57

obv the kedgeree was with cauli rice.
If anyone would like a recipe let me know and I'll post a rather approximate version on the recipe thread

diggerdigsdogs · 18/05/2015 15:54

On the back of the pack it says 0.7g carb per tbs but 4.7g per 100g. I wouldn't have more than 1tbs per day though. However, fat is 4.7/31.3 and protein is 3.1/20.7 so does that sound ok?

I really do always have breakfast but I sometimes had home made smoothies (banana, yogurt, berries, milk) which are out on this woe. i was just checking really in case it would be a good substitute on those days you've missed the alarm, late, tired etc.

Thanks BIWI Thanks

dillite · 18/05/2015 16:38

Where do you all get your yoghurts from? My local ASDA only seems to have low fat or fat free yoghurts. It's like the great wall of fat free dairy. Or flavoured ones that are full of sugar. Can we have Alpro? It's only 3g of fat though.

dillite · 18/05/2015 16:42

Thank you ewan. Can I please have your kedgeree (whatever the hell that is) recipe? And your coronation/ bang bang chicken ones?

ewanhoozami · 18/05/2015 18:38

I've put Kedgeree (which is very comforting and lovely) on the recipe thread here

I now have to remember how the hell I made bang bang chicken, bear with me Grin

diggerdigsdogs · 19/05/2015 01:12

Another question from me Blush

Does the amount of fat in double cream matter? The cheaper ones are 35% milk fat and the most expensive one is 45%. I'd rather buy the own brand cheaper one!

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 19/05/2015 09:53

Question please :)

I've always seen almond and coconut milk used for people who don't have dairy, is there a reason not to use soya? The carb/fat measurements seem okay?

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 19/05/2015 09:54

(I'm looking for excuses as it is minging, but i need a longlife unchillable something for camping)

diggerdigsdogs · 19/05/2015 11:07

Beyond my ("so good!" brand) almond and coconut milk is long life. I hate soy milk too.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 19/05/2015 11:22

Where do you buy it from? I can only ever find the full sugar versions in longlife, but i'll admit i havent looked too hard Grin

dillite · 19/05/2015 12:21

Can I ask for some snack ideas that don't involve cheese? Oh, and I saw some dessert recipes on bootcamp thread, are we allowed to have those whilst on bootcamp, or are they only for bootcamp lite?

BIWI · 19/05/2015 14:10

digger the seeds sound OK on that basis.

Re the cream, you should always go with the highest fat, which is double cream. I didn't think that the fat content varied though? Are you sure you're buying real cream, rather than something like Elmlea, which is a cream substitute?!

dillite olives, celery, cucumber are all good, and you could always add pate or cream cheese to the celery.

Re desserts - what do you think? Have you actually read Bootcamp rules yet?!

OP posts:
dillite · 19/05/2015 14:16

I have read the rules! Which is why I am double checking as the recipes I saw were on the bootcamp recipe thread.

miffy49 · 19/05/2015 14:26

dillite As we get further into BC you will have the option to go on to BC light. The recipe thread just runs all the time so some recipes are only suitable for later. When you do start to try them you will find that they are a lot less sweet than you will have been used to but that shouldn't matter as by then BC will have worked its magic and killed your sweet tooth!
