elastamum · 28/05/2010 22:33

Not a chance, am working on a conference. Will be up at 5.30am UK time working all day then flying home in the afternoon. All so I can get a few days off in lieu next week when the kids are off. Still working out what I am supposed to be saying in the morning My ex thought I had gone overseas on a romantic trip - fat chance!!!

Monty100 · 28/05/2010 22:41

Juice - I won't mention it again .

Elasta - we can tell you what to say in the morning. Give us a cue. (see what I did there with 'cue'... no prob not a good idea). Hope it goes ok tho. You'll be glad to get home. I used to work away quite a bit, not abroad but here, and it was sometimes fun but hard work, and also sometimes very lonely. .

OP posts:
lou33 · 28/05/2010 23:06

yes it is good, i do feel almost back on form thank goodness

i also have the extra pleasure of dp telling me he is off til tues now (he usually works on bank holidays, and every other saturday, though this weekend he is meant to be off anyway)

the thing that is really grating me though is that they docked him 2 days pay for when he was off sick

i keep telling him that they cant do that, he didnt even get ssp paid, and he has been told he has to make the time up

fucking bastards

thesouthsbelle · 29/05/2010 08:53

lou - if it's ssp he'll have to wait 4 days before they start paying it - they call em waiting days so if he's not had any time off in the last 8 weeks for sickness then it's right i'm afraid - occupational is at ther discretion - however most do give the option of taking it as a holiday. (not that they should have to thou)

well soldier came over last night..... I cooked hunters chicken which was nice for a change. althou all the cheese came out the middle so will have to do it again I think. have talked about the major thing that was concerning me (thanks for your advice juicy), so now I'm left thinking bloody hell, this is good maybe there is one good one left!! he stayed but we did a bit of bed hopping - DS came in at 2.30am, he got out the other side of the bed to sleep on the sofa, DS saw him, and asked who he was - I said 'mummy's friend' so far this morning he's not said a word. fingers crossed.

how do you deal with that one? soldier left at 5.30 am - the plan was DS would never know, but if DS is going to keep coming in with me.

anyhow... off to catch up now...

lou33 · 29/05/2010 11:52

his contract states he self certifies for the first 3 days, and it says nothing about docking him a full days wage if he is sick, just that he has to give a certain amount of notice, which he did)

i cant recall any firms that i worked for who deducted a days wages from me when i was off sick

they take the piss, asking him to work hours over and above i would consider safe for driving work, and a load of other stuff

you know when he was off sick his manager called him up and was so abusive i couldnt believe it

all the fucks getting into the conversation

i could hear him shouting at dp on the phone

tossers

Monty100 · 29/05/2010 12:53

Hi everybody

Lou - that is truly shocking, have you asked over on the employment/legal threads. His contract sounds like he should be paid, I'm not sure but I thought new employment law states that everyone is entitled to a certain amount time off with sick pay. I echo your 'bastards' here. That truly is bad form considering how ill he was and what a hard worker he is.

Belle - at ds coming in. Let's hope he was sleepy enough not to remember.

Betty - what's your plans.

It's really wet and miserable here, don't know if its going to clear up or not, it's keeping me back from laundry etc grr.

On the converse to Belle's story, dd (17 next month) asked if her friend (male) could come and crash after a party last night. I agreed, she's been talking about this friend for a long time and they are very close, they are at 6th form together, when I've ribbed her she has assured me they are just friends and she has crashed at his a few times. Anyway, she still wasn't in when I went to bed and I put my head around her door about 7.30am and there he was not 'crashed' as such, but in her bed!!!! Not cuddling or anything, back to back. OMG. I can only trust her not to do anything silly. They still have't surfaced.

Anyone else had this?

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Betty79 · 29/05/2010 13:07

lou-that is bad about sick pay etc and even worse that he got shouted at on the phone!

belle-oops to ds waking up! thats always the way when you try to be sneaky lol

monty-hmmm well I dont have any experience as a parent but I do remember doing that as a 17 year ol although In my case I dont think I tol my mum or it was that innocent lol I think It's good that she aske, but maybe you nee to have a talk with her when she surfaces and he's gone home?

I'm not going to the bbq as the weather is pants here, so have told boilerman he can come over, think we are gonna get takeaway

lou33 · 29/05/2010 13:14

i will think about asking ont he legal threads thanks, but he just keeps telling me not to get involved, he doesnt want to rock the boat etc

its v frustrating

Monty100 · 29/05/2010 14:13

I hope he gets it sorted Lou.

OP posts:
thesouthsbelle · 29/05/2010 18:08

lou- tbh that is a bit like the holidays thing before the bank holidays became additional to the 'standard' 20 days. it's a cheap company who doesn't pay them tbh - mine is one such company. but there we are - was out of order for obsenities down the phone thou - no need for that at all.

monty- erm if they're the sort of 'friends' that soldier & I are then yes - lol. not friends!!

betty - hope the bbq goes well.

juicy - what's happening with you & rochester/study?

pgm - sorry to hear your ex is being an idiot - seems we have several on this thread. never think of the kids thou do they. anyhow how you get things sorted soon.

pirate/blondie/ninah/kdk. big waves hope all is well.

Unfortunately DS wasn't sleep enough to forget plus he saw the bottles last night & asked if it was my friend's then asked what friend it was - not good, but think i've got around it for now. soldier is cookin for me tonight - fajitas apparently - didn't have the heart to tell him i'm not right keen on mexican food, althou he knows I don't like it spicy, so fingers crossed.

lou33 · 29/05/2010 19:27

it isnt like he doesnt work extra hours for them and not get paid for that like he should either

he is only still there , despite promotion, until he has been there long enough so he doesnt have to pay back the money they spent on him getting his hgv class 2 licence, so that's another 6 months, then he will look for a new job

the place he wants to work for has an agreement with his company though not to poach staff, they have to have left his company for 6m before they will take them on

his manager is an unbelievable fucko, one min talking to him like he is shit, hte next being all pally asking why he didnt go to his surprise 40th, and can he use some of his time off to pick him up from the airport after his holiday like his fucking chauffeur

can you tell it makes me mad?

but seriously, can companies really deduct a day wages for each day you are sick? he is hardly ever off work, and he has worked for them for 11 yrs, it isnt like he does it all the time

plus he went in the first day he felt rough even though he wasnt really well enough, so they knew he wasnt putting it on

lou33 · 29/05/2010 19:33

oh and lets not forget that when he did return to work, he covered 4 other drivers who were off sick or on holiday too, worked extra hours and days and according to his payslip hasnt got fuck all for it

i should really calm down and get myself ready, i am actually venturing out into the real world this evening to spend some time with a couple of lovely friends (i am the non religious godmother to their daughter, whatever that would be called)

Betty79 · 29/05/2010 19:38

lou-I would imagine that if they dock a days pay, then he doesnt have to make the time back up surely? Or the other way round. I know my mum doesnt get sick pay where she works, it's rubbish really can understand why it makes you so mad!

belle-enjoy the fajitas, hope they ont blow ur head off! An that you dont have a repeat performance from ds again tonight lol

monty-thanks for plumping up the cushions

I've just put kids to bed and am waiting for boilerman to get here in time for britains got talent an a takeaway lol

it's been quiet here last few days, think everyone else must have lives

Monty100 · 29/05/2010 19:40

Lou - I don't blame you for fuming. That's a one way loyalty there if ever I saw it. I remember the hours he was doing in the bad winter weather. grrr.

Non religious godmother is still godmother in my book. Have a lovely evening.

I'm going into rl this evening too and need to get in the shower but cba.

DD's 'friend' is still here!
They're watching dvds in her room.

Lou, unfortunatley some companies don't pay sick pay and it's perfectly legal. SSP kicks in after 3 days. It's only about £70 a week or proportion of the week.

My last employers didn't pay sick pay to anyone it was in hospitality (I worked in the office) and that was fair enough as some of them would have abused it. Then they started paying the managers on salary and I saw the salary still being paid when one of them took time off sick, funny how they all went sick all of a sudden. I had worked there 7 years and was off really ill, not being able to get out of bed ill and the bastards docked my money so I left! Get paid in my new job. It sucks and I think it should be illegal!

I went to guzzle wine with friends last night and we ended up going to the local. Met some people who were buying us drinks and I don't remember that last hour or walking home. Spent all day in bed, it was bliss. Smoked a couple of my friends cigs so back off them again. GRRRR!

thesouthsbelle · 30/05/2010 08:37

that's right Lou i'm afraid- however, if he made the hours up then he shouldn't have had anything docked at all - and indeed should have been paid the over time, can see why you're fuming. are those extra hours on his next payslip? (some dept's have a cut off date when they hold all hours over to the next month for processing) the council used to do this, but tbh I could never stand doing it so I would put everything thru right until the last day before we ran the payroll as a) folk would ring up to protest and we'd do an extra payment and b) why shouldn't htey have their money?

anyhow... lol....

DS did indeed stay in his bed all night, althou he did here soldier arrive & kept asking who it was - he did go to sleep thou. soldier was happier at not bed hopping. food was good - surprisingly. it's quite sexy really having a man in the kitchen who's not just there to moan his dinner's not done.

what's everyone up to today anyhow - am off with family tonight & mum has DS tonight.

monty - sounds like you're about pulling your hair out!

eve - ah good times then for you.

where is everyone at the mo - all out dating?!?
