Please share your favourite places for grown up lunches/dinners in central-iso London. Happy for it to be a chain, an indie, fine dining, curry, Thai, anything really!

I love Brasserie Zedel and the Wolseley. Enjoyed the German Gymnasium. Would be very keen to hear of really good curry places, but not Brick Lane or the really cheap ones.

Any ideas much appreciated! :)

Gymkhana

BillyRaywasapreachersson · 25/07/2021 18:37

Current fave - Mildred's
Old faves - Boulevard
Cote at At Katherine's Dock
Last swish meal out - Aqua Shard

Stakhanovite · 25/07/2021 18:38

Palomar

robotcollision · 25/07/2021 19:40

Dishoom is good for curry.

The Ivy is mid way between Zedel and The Wolseley

You could try lunch at Pollen Street Social if you want something quite dramatically beautiful - definitely fine dining but not so eye-wteringly expensive at lunchtime.

OverTheRubicon · 25/07/2021 19:41

Dishoom food is amazing.

Sketch is an amazing arty experience.

Bob Bob Ricard has lovely food and most importantly a button to press for more champagne.

ISeeTheLight · 25/07/2021 19:42

Hawksmoor. In particular Borough or Seven Dials.
ROKA Aldwich for sushi.

ISeeTheLight · 25/07/2021 19:42

Lima is great for upmarket Peruvian.

Seasidemumma77 · 25/07/2021 19:42

Good Egg in Soho

Spottybluepyjamas · 25/07/2021 19:43

Always Dishoom for curry!

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 25/07/2021 19:44

Padella awesome food and bloody good value.

ChocolateRiver · 25/07/2021 19:50

Dh and I are going to London next week and we’ve booked Dishoom because we’d heard good things about it.

Palavah · 25/07/2021 19:52

Cinnamon Kitchen/club /bazaar

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2021 19:55

These are brilliant. Thank you!

Love Dishoom, but we've got a local one now so it's not as exciting as it used to be. :)

Gymkhana has been on my list for a while.

Hawksmoor not great for veggies - sorry, should have said this in my OP!

Pollen Street Social sounds good.

Have tried to get into Padella a few times and failed. Ideally want places that I can book in advance.

I really want to go to Sketch, but I don't think DP would appreciate it enough.

Peruvian sounds interesting!

Tayyabs

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2021 20:06

Is Tayyabs the one famous for all the grilled meat? Probably not great for me then.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie you can book at Padella in Shoreditch the one at Borough now has a virtual queue so you can mooch around the market whilst you wait.

@theyresexpeoplelynn yes Tayyabs is my favourite for a curry.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2021 20:17

Thanks so much for all of these.

That's excellent news re the Shoreditch Padella. I am one of the few people in the world who doesn't appreciate Borough Market, I think. I find it really claustrophobic and not very exciting - sorry!

Will have a look at Tayyabs.

The Palomar on Rupert Street - Jerusalem food and utterly beautiful.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 25/07/2021 20:22

Fair enough, its not everyone cup of tea!

If it makes it anymore bearable it is a lot quiter than you would normally expect due to the lack of tourists in London.

I was actually there this morning and was shocked at how quiet it was...if it doesn't book Shoreditch, you can book 4 weeks in advance online.

I was there at about 12.30 today, but thought the whole area was horribly crowded. Grin

Having looked at the Palomar's menu, I want to go there purely for the sumac tart!

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 25/07/2021 20:36

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie how funny! At 12.30 I was drinking Pimms in the virtual queue for Padella!!

I have been some days when you literally can't move down the aisles thought it was so much better today.

izzy2076 · 25/07/2021 20:36

Hoppers is amazing. Even better than dishoom!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2021 20:42

Ooh yes - Hoppers has been on my list for a while (but not the nasty eggy things on the menu!)

IDidntFloat - If you saw somebody walking past Padella, looking over-heated and grumbling about not being able to book, it might well have been me!
