Please share your favourite places for grown up lunches/dinners in central-iso London. Happy for it to be a chain, an indie, fine dining, curry, Thai, anything really!

I love Brasserie Zedel and the Wolseley. Enjoyed the German Gymnasium. Would be very keen to hear of really good curry places, but not Brick Lane or the really cheap ones.

Any ideas much appreciated! :)

We’ve been to Gloria for brunch a few times and really liked it. The decor is really fun too! Have you looked at Tendril? They’re a mostly vegan restaurant and their food looks fab!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/10/2021 17:41

That's good to hear, Lurker.

Will have a look at these others for future reference.

Tendril sounds good.

Gloria - it was okay but I wouldn’t rush back. Tables are so close together that you nearly end up in someone’s pasta to get up to go to the loo. The cocktails were nice. Food average.

Gymkhana- amazing and the set lunch is really good value. Will definitely return. Loved it.

Would Hoppers be a better choice after I stop breastfeeding? Is it very very spicy?

languagelover96 · 12/11/2021 11:39

The Shard
China Town
The Ritz

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2021 15:39

Hoppers isn't very spicy. It depends on your tastes and how pregnancy has affected smell etc. I couldn't have gone near a curry during either of my pregnancies.

Tahli Joe for Indian, was recommended by our Indian friend and it was fantastic

Hoping to resurrect this for the new year. Grin

Chai Ki in Canary Wharf is a favourite. I also like the plant burgers at Honest Burgers more than the meat ones.

Some vegan friends like Pastan which is now near the Barbican.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/01/2022 16:26

The cauliflower burger at Honest Burgers is probably the best burger I've ever tasted. :)

Plateau in Canary Wharf is fantastic.

The flavours and cocktails were some of the best I have tried in London.

P.S I am a fan of Brasserie Zedal too!

Any recommendations for Shoreditch / east London? Anyone tried Daffodil Mulligans?

Looking for a nice/ upper end of mid range restaurant, with a bit of atmosphere for a date. But also up against it as trying to find something for Friday night..!

Shak Fuyu in Soho has plenty of vege options.

I'm also a fan of Fatt Pundit which ca best be described as Chinese Indian fusion. The cocktails are fab as well.

For posher dinners we usually end up at Ember Yard Again the cocktails make it worth a visit

The venison doughnut at Gunpowder in SOHO is worth a trip

Another favourite of ours is Kolamba

slug · 12/01/2022 16:17

Alas Thali Joe was a victim of lockdown. I'm still in mourning

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/01/2022 16:28

Gunpowder sounds nice, but not the venison doughnut! Grin

Bumping -
How about your top tips for afternoon tea?
For casual lunches?
For nice, non-stuffy evening meals than are bookable and not crazily crowded?
For vegan food, or Thai food, or Vietnamese or anything else really!

I went to Fiend in Notting Hill last week and the food was amazing. Highly recommend it. And definitely not a stuffy vibe, very cool but not pretentious.

Cocktails weren’t quite as great as the food though!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/01/2022 17:11

That sounds good - although I wish the menu had a wider range of veggie options. The ones there sound good though.

Ottolenghi's restaurants ROVI and NOPI are both pretty good for a selection of non meaty options. They have a nice atmosphere too.

Galvin windows
Galvin la chapelle

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2022 19:52

Nice, thanks.
