Please share your favourite places for grown up lunches/dinners in central-iso London. Happy for it to be a chain, an indie, fine dining, curry, Thai, anything really!

I love Brasserie Zedel and the Wolseley. Enjoyed the German Gymnasium. Would be very keen to hear of really good curry places, but not Brick Lane or the really cheap ones.

Any ideas much appreciated! :)

I would recommend NAC Mayfair for lunch, particularly the salads and honey French toast. Also loved Black Roe (near Sketch) or Chotto Matte (in Soho) although it was quite noisy/lively at CM. Both would have plenty of vegetarian food on the menu. Also Polpo was nice if that’s still around. The Fenchurch Restaurant at the Sky Garden had some unusual dishes and was very enjoyable.

@JennyWreny Black Roe has closed. I really loved it there.

Duck and Rice is one of my faves, pizzaro in Bermondsey is my favourite spanish restaurant, chez bruce charlotte street , bibendums has a good new chef,

Davros · 04/08/2021 13:50

We hated Honey & Co. Pretentious, uncomfortable, average food. Just realised that Relais de Venise won't be any good for vegetarians

That’s very sad. I thought the food at Chotto Matte was equally good but I found it quite noisy there. I liked that Black Roe was smaller and not so loud!

Thanks for the latest recs.

Had a lovely time in Brasserie Zédel last night and there’s a decent veggie menu. Not much for vegans though.

I love this thread! I'm a Londoner (and a veggie) but haven't worked in town for years so I'd lost track of all the good places to eat. I'm going to be working back in town soon so might chomp my way through the recommendations on this thread!

I've heard a few people say Honey & Co is disappointing. DGH really wants to go there but I'm not sure.

robotcollision tricky... go and you might love it, people do. Get the desperate person to pay, I'm not sure who it is. Give us your feedback. Or go somewhere you think you're more likely to enjoy. Zedel it ain't

Just been to Brighton for the day and had the set menu in Terre a Terre. Stunning!

Hmm. I'm not that keen on Zedel. Love the architecture but the food is meh, it always smells a bit honky and lacks the vivacity of cheap Paris bistros like Chartier.

DGH meant to read DH - don't know where the G sneaked in.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/08/2021 17:28

Went to Mildreds for breakfast today. Very nice.

The Crazy Coqs and the bar at Zedel are brilliant. I haven't eaten there often. It's an amazing building

Verite1 · 07/08/2021 00:07

Rovi and Nopi are great for vegetarians. And non vegetarians as well!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/08/2021 19:56

I love Zédel. It’s never been smelly when I’ve visited, the food is fine for the price point and it’s fun to have the band playing. I’ve never been to a cheap bistro in Paris.

Hoppers - likes but didn’t love it. The service felt very rushed and they clearly wanted people to stay only an hour or so, to keep the tables turning. I wouldn’t rush back.

Ciao Bella on Lambs Conduit Street for fab Italian food.

doadeer · 07/08/2021 20:07

Cinnamon Club is great.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2021 09:20

Have heard v good things about Cinnamon Club. I think Gymkhana might be top of my list for our next visit.

Had amazing Greek-style feta pastries from a bakery in Highgate. Are there any really good Greek restaurants in London?

You do need to go to Palomar! Really lovely.

I went to Bob Bob Ricard last week - really liked that too. But not cheap

And Berber & Q in Exmouth market (which I don't think anyone has recommended on here) is also delicious.

I wasn't totally sold on Gymkhana - really nice food, but Dishoom just as lovely imo.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2021 09:28

Palomar menu not great for me, annoyingly. All I could eat is dips.

OP posts:
HelenHywater · 08/08/2021 09:55

Oh you're vegetarian! Sorry didn't see that. Berber & Q won't be great for you either. then.

Davros · 08/08/2021 09:58

Wood Green is the area for Greek restaurants although there are good locals all over. Ours is called Retsina in Belsize Village. Lemonia in Primrose Hill is an institution. Good if standard Greek food, not cheap but good fun, always lively.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2021 10:04

Thanks, Davros.

Love a trip to Primrose Hill, so that could be a contender!

Loving this thread. My London fave is Dishoom, and also the River Cafe.

Next on my list is Circo Populare.

Has anyone been to Heddon St Kitchen and is it any good?
