Please share your favourite places for grown up lunches/dinners in central-iso London. Happy for it to be a chain, an indie, fine dining, curry, Thai, anything really!

I love Brasserie Zedel and the Wolseley. Enjoyed the German Gymnasium. Would be very keen to hear of really good curry places, but not Brick Lane or the really cheap ones.

Any ideas much appreciated! :)

the dessert at Palomar was just absolutely sublime.

Also love Hoppers and Dishoom. Had a lovely dinner at Evelyn's Table.

Barrafina also lovely.

I don't much remember the food at Sketch, but it's fun - my teens loved it.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie and IDidntFloat Shut. UP! I was at borough market this morning too! And remarked on the pimms and food at padella and wished we hadn't booked giraffe for brunch (kids and DM in tow).

theyresexpeoplelynn · 25/07/2021 20:54

Also remarked on how quiet it was Grin

Love Kingly Court for lunch, lots of small places to choose from. Upstairs is a fab Syrian place. Good people watching too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2021 20:58

All those MNers in Borough today - we should have had a secret code to be able to knowingly nod to each other.

Chutney Mary is fab, high end Indian. Hakkasan, michelin star modern Asian/Chinese

theyresexpeoplelynn · 25/07/2021 21:04

Yes Remus! Grin also they have good veggie options at tayyabs FYI

mynameiscalypso · 25/07/2021 21:08

I love Jikoni; some of the most interesting food I've had in ages and some excellent veggie options too.

Davros · 25/07/2021 23:23

Bob Bob City was dreadful.
We recently went to Mere in Charlotte street, that was good.
Very much enjoyed Rules before CV 🦠

Bao Soho is also seriously good (or was when it first opened) but it's not a relaxed place to eat. The food is exquisite and the service is great but you eat at narrow bars and sit on narrow benches and feel like they want to move you on fairly quickly. So it's great if you are in a hurry pre-theatre or for lunch but not that relaxing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2021 08:34

I've seen Rules mentioned in MN before, but can see practically nothing veggie on the online menu.

We had a meal at Trishna in Marylebone back in May, for our anniversary. The tasting menu was divine - we had the longest lunch ever and every course was just delicious. As were the cocktails. For an occasion, it hit the mark perfectly. It has a Michellin star, but is in no way pretentious or stuffy, it has a great vibe.

cheesecrackerz · 26/07/2021 08:43

I agree that Hoppers is much better than Dishoom

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2021 08:59

Definitely up for Indian fine dining at either Gymkhana or Trishna.

At Hoppers, have people done the £35 feast menu, or just ordered from the main menu? What did you eat? 😁

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I had the menu and it was amazing! Bone marrow in curry sauce, blackened pork, roti, Dahl, chicken kari, hoppers, dosa. It was just really exciting food.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2021 21:31

Thanks, Izzy. I couldn't eat most of that, but the veggie feast sounds interesting.

Circolo popolare

HelenHywater · 26/07/2021 21:50

I prefer Hoppers and Dishoom to Gymkhana actually. I prefer a bit more relaxed and food just as nice im(not very refined)o

I haven't eaten at Rules for years, but it's nothing special I don't think.

Starseeking · 26/07/2021 21:57

Hakkassan and Scott's, Mayfair are my two favourites. Haven't been to either since before the pandemic, I really miss eating out.

StiggyZardust · 26/07/2021 22:02

Bentley's for oysters/fish

enoughforme · 26/07/2021 22:09

Veeraswamy regent street and chutney Mary green park. Both insanely amazing!

butterry · 26/07/2021 22:16

For vegetarian food there’s a tofu restaurant called tofu vegan London that’s just opened and pretty unique and Sen Viet for Vietnamese food on Kingsland Rd.

FatAnkles · 26/07/2021 22:18

Mildred's? It's in Soho.
Sushinoen in Aldgate East does good Japanese. Worth the schlep?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2021 17:08

Thanks for these new ones. Now need to do lots of googling and make some decisions! Have already booked Brasserie Zedel. :)
