Please share your favourite places for grown up lunches/dinners in central-iso London. Happy for it to be a chain, an indie, fine dining, curry, Thai, anything really!

I love Brasserie Zedel and the Wolseley. Enjoyed the German Gymnasium. Would be very keen to hear of really good curry places, but not Brick Lane or the really cheap ones.

Any ideas much appreciated! :)

Have booked Hoppers. Really looking forward to trying it.

Bumping this in case anybody else has any fabulous ideas.

We'll be in the City one lunchtime, and just needing a sarnie or something.

Need one more evening meal too.

Won't have time for afternoon tea this time, but feel free to mention your favourites anyway!

I know it’s a bit gimmicky but we enjoyed inamo - the veggie food was really nice. I also like the Gate.

someoneseatenmyapple · 03/08/2021 21:31

Love Randall & Aubin in Brewer Street.

JW13 · 03/08/2021 21:32

Eataly for the lunch (near Liverpool Street)? I haven't been but people I know have loved it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2021 21:57

Thanks for these. Love reading menus etc. 😁👍

Unfortunately Randall & Aubin looks absolutely terrible for vegetarians. All I can see on the menu is a single goats cheese salad!

If you are in the City and like Indian food you have to try Tifinbox Indian Street food. You might have to queue at lunchtime but it is so good for Indian snack lunches.

I love Paladar especially in the evening. Always has a great atmosphere - great cocktails too.

Din tai Fung is fun but you can't book. Roka on Aldwych, Delaunay (for the dining room and service as much for the food).

Loved the new Chinese in the city (Kym's) but walked past today and it's closed down :(

Mei ume in the 4 seasons by Tower Hill (pricey but a treat) and Bravas Tapas in st katherines dock

Davros · 03/08/2021 22:35

Relais de Venise is always fun and good food. No booking though. There's a small number of branches, we usually go to Marylebone

Palavah · 03/08/2021 22:46

It's not fancy but the restaurant at the YMCA by Tottenham Court road is veggie i think and always gets rave reviews.

ThePlantsitter · 03/08/2021 22:51

Arabica in Borough Market. Has no one mentioned ottolenghi in spitalfields because it's too obvious?

Titsywoo · 03/08/2021 22:54

In the last couple of months the best meals I have had in London were at Scullys which was amazing (particularly the veggie food and I am in no way vegetarian!) and also the restaurant at The Ritz (not the afternoon tea) was fantastic!

Palavah · 03/08/2021 22:58

Ooh Ottolenghi is an excellent shout. Also Honey and Co

Ilikegherkins · 03/08/2021 22:59

Really good sourdough pizza on top of John Lewis at the moment - willow on the roof

IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 03/08/2021 23:03

Coya - much better than Lima (although I love Lima)
Agree with all the other recos!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2021 23:08

These are fabulous. Thank you. I'm writing them all down in a notebook for future reference.

Hoppers is amazing, Sri Lankan Vs Dishoom Indian.

Clos Maggiore is a beautiful French restaurant. Ask for a table by the blossom tree.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2021 23:19

We've got Hoppers booked. Looking forward to it!

I really want to try Clos M.

Oooh yes to Honey and Co or any of the Ottolenghis (but especially Nopi - I always eat vegetarian there even though I am not veggie). Also Palomar holds a special place in my heart.

For a fully veggie restaurant I'm about to book Bubala in Spitalfields which people have raved about.

Marimaur · 03/08/2021 23:22

Trishna on Marylebone high st

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 03/08/2021 23:26

I love Hoppers.

If you’re going to be needing a snacky lunch in the City, you could go to Whitecross Street Market, which has loads of food stalls serving everything from Korean barbecue to salads.

lurker101 · 03/08/2021 23:29

Has anyone been to Darjeeling Express? I’m tempted to book, but they seem to only be doing set menus at the minute

Fatt Pundit is great for indo-Chinese and has a good selection of vegetarian options

RaskolnikovsGarret · 03/08/2021 23:35

Chettinad on Percy Street near Goodge Street. An excellent Indian.
