Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

Thanks, ros. That's the one on the main road, isn't that? Just found out how much it'd cost, shockingly expensive.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

rosmerta · 27/04/2008 18:55

I thought they might be for emergency cover. Its hard when you don't have family to help isn't it?

And to everyone else, COOOOEEEE, WE'RE OVER HEEEEERRRRREEEEE

Hello all!

Bristol trip was fine - sat in the sun all afternoon in a nice garden, even the kids were angelic - only needed a tiny little bribe of squash and kitkat! More than made up for it today though ... I'm exhausted!

A bit disappointed though not to see the clifton suspension bridge ...

Very nice to see everyone who was there on Friday night!

sfxmum · 27/04/2008 19:21

hello all found you
thanks for starting thread Ros

sushi - let us hope it is quite mild, does ds have to be away from nursery for a long time?

slng shame abut the bridge but glad you had a nice time

very nice quiet Sunday here
dd finally has her bottle rocket made with dh this afternoon. she insisted on tissue paper for the flames but settle for orange strips of normal paper too much telly

SJ99 · 27/04/2008 19:32

Ah, here you all are

Sushi - do you still have that emergency childcare link? I think you can get a CM for £7/hr. Can Dh take any time off? Hope DS recovers quickly

Sfx - just seen that email from festival, bit gutted that Granny Rock in on Sun, don't think DH will be wanting to stay Sun night

Slng - glad trip went well apart from missing the bridge

Steppie - yes, we can have a natter next time. Just have to find a restaurant which has rotating seats that way we get to chat to everyone

fitfox · 27/04/2008 19:44

Oh here you al are

Ros - you'll probably get 3rd choice as lots of people have a priority booking thing whih means they get in before the postals. As long as you like all your choices you'll be fine. We've "done" Portland Bill a couple of times, renting cottages, its nice round there isn't it?

Steppy _ LOL at "faking it" - that is so true! I recall staying with a Maori guy once with DH. This guy had a lot of admirers (long hair, good looks, fabby motorbike) and he bought a girl home - Lordy was she faking it!!! DH and I had to supress our giggles in the room next door.

sfxmum · 27/04/2008 19:50

SJ yes last year we missed Arcade Fire but we will see what happens this year. saw a picture of her in one of the weekend papers and am expecting outrageous outfit and plenty of debauchery on stage bless her

Kewcumber · 27/04/2008 19:56

oh sushi dont tell me that. DS has been very odd high temp all weekend and very out of sorts for no obvious reason... I too can't take this week off.

Kewcumber · 27/04/2008 20:01

massive thanks to Ros who enabled me to do my duty at nephews 18th. DS kept quiet for her then woke me up at 2.30am with a temp (again) - then I dropped a towel rail on my big toe this evening so I am tired and grouchy.

Good luck with your trip Paddle.

fitfox · 27/04/2008 20:02

Being out of sorts is often first sign of Chicken Pox.

Maybe DS2 will get it too.....

Sushi have you found any child care yet?

I remember when my sister's daughter got CP and she had to drive her from Richmond to Colchester on the Sunday night, so our Mum could look after her for a week as sister had a mega work event on that week

fitfox · 27/04/2008 20:03

Ouch!!

SushiMummy · 27/04/2008 20:10

Evening all.

DS developed a few more spots this afternoon and it's probably CP. Really acting as normal, running around and that, tho.

As for how long he's off nursery, it depends how lightly/seriously he gets, I suppose. Not till all blisters become scabs/dry, hopefully a week. Dunno...

Really it's the worst time it could possibly be. Sigh.

SJ - I went for the one you suggested. CM probably won't take an infectious child so went for a nanny option. Couldn't believe how expensive it is (more than double of CM).

QC - hope your DS OK.

Can I bathe DS?

sfxmum · 27/04/2008 20:48

chicken pox

and more chicken pox

hope it is mild sort of wish dd could get it out of the way soon too but probably would not go as far as deliberately exposing

SushiMummy · 27/04/2008 21:06

Thanks, sfx. The more I read about it, the more confused I get. He doesn't have any other symptons, just spots. Eating and acting normal.

If you fancy a CP party, you are all more than welcome to join us.

I booked a nanny from an agency on the web but haven't heard from them yet. Hope s/he will turn up tomorrow.[worried emoticon]

Sorry, it's all about me, me, me today. Hope you are all well. Has paddle left for the states?

sfxmum · 27/04/2008 21:30

I think you are entitled sushi, it can be safely classed as a crisis, afaik it can be extremely mild with just a few spots and mild temp, but spots can take a couple of days to make an appearance.

I have very clear memories of having CP we all 3 got it one after the other

ComeOVeneer · 27/04/2008 21:57

Hi all, I thought things were quiet today. Sympathies on the CP sushi, and the foot Kew. I can relate to the foot, a frozen pack of butter leapt out of the freezer and landed on my foot this evening, and I have a big bruie already . DS is still awake, he was a bl**dy nightmare last night too. I have no idea what is going on wih his sleep, but it is turning him into a right miserable so and so. Not to mention what I am like. DH owes me big time when he gets home!

fitfox · 27/04/2008 23:03

Sushi - once the spots appear they tend to feel a lot better ie.e seem quite well apart from being spotty.

You can bathe and put lotion on afterwards to stop itching (calamine??, sorry can't remember which one from DS1 and DD)

Paddlechick666 · 28/04/2008 06:53

morning all.
Why am I not getting email updates on the line-up? More worryingly why don't I know who granny rock is?
even more worrying is possibility of CP for dd, week. Don't think GPs will be impressed and I want to nurse her thru myself anyway. Mind you my dm didn't get it till 14 and neither did I and dd has been exposed a few times so maybe she's following suit.
Really hope gherkin and little sushi feel a lot better soon. Totally feel your dilemma sushi.
Slng, I used to live in bristol.
Well I stayed in a heathrow hotel last night and barely slept. Bloody right by the lift and why do people think a hotel door provides any noise insulation thus allowing excited holiday makers to yell up the corridor as the leave for their early flight?!
oh well maybe I'll sleep on the plane. I am no 5 days without alcohol and 4 into my ABs. Can I risk a little drinkie on the flight?
see y'all next week, will try to check in when I'm able

sfxmum · 28/04/2008 08:09

good morning all

hope little ones are ok and feeling better today
likewise assorted injured feet - ouch

dh not impressed with all the CP and practically insisted on confinement

anyway

paddle - not sure why no emails but Debbie Harry/ Blondie will be doing their stuff.
have a nice trip

I think we will head for Kew today dd was asking to go as soon as she got up although that is no guarantee dd will actually do so later

AtheneNoctua · 28/04/2008 08:44

Haven't really got time to catch up here. But, sushi, I wanted to post for your childcare crisis.

I would not contact an agency because they laugh all the way to the bank.

I would do the following:
Post on nannyjob.co.uk
Post in the nanny threads on mumsnet

A nanny is pretty much your only option... unless you could be lucky enough find a childminder who has no other children to look after and would be happy to have a chicken pox infested charge for a couple of weeks.

E-mail me at work if you want to talk. Not sure how much time I'll have today for this thread.

SushiMummy · 28/04/2008 08:46

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well.

Had a call from the agency early in the morning saying it'd be difficult to find someone who would be willing to look after an infectious child. Anyway, just had another call to tell me they found someone. Keep my finger crossed for a lovely nanny to arrive.

Hope your foot is on the mend, QC and CoV.

AtheneNoctua · 28/04/2008 08:48

Ok, I skimmed a bit more now and my post is too little too late. You have already booked a nanny. Sorry.

For those of you worried about the pox, a guy I work with has just returned to work because his kid (in Richmond) got them at his nursery and then the dad caught them! He said it was horrible. So probably better for the little ones to get them while they are little. I know that's not much consolation for you know.

SushiMummy · 28/04/2008 08:50

Oh Athene, I wish I had contacted you earlier. Yes, the agency is laughing all the way to the bank with my big fat cheque as we speak. We don't want to cancel it as you'd need 48 hours notice so too late for it.

AtheneNoctua · 28/04/2008 08:51

I hate agencies. It should not be difficult to find someone to look after a child with chicken pox. Assuming the nanny has had it. Okay the job is a bit less fun than going out on playdates, but I'm sure loads would take the job.

AtheneNoctua · 28/04/2008 08:54

Oh, bugger. I'm so sorry I missed this. In future, you should use the nanny threads or e-mail me. I usually check e-mail on the weekend but don't always make it onto mumsnet.

For about £15 you can put an ad on nannyjob and then go post in the chat section. So long as you have paid for the ad I don't think they mind you chatting about it as well.
