Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/05/2008 09:16

a blank vote is more of a protest vote I think and besides there is the assembly vote too not just the main one

rosmerta · 01/05/2008 09:17

Because I do want to vote, just don't have any confidence in main candidates

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/05/2008 09:33

I am taking dd we were explaining about voting yesterday and now she wants to do it, have to think of a way to fob her off

our explanation was if all the engines on Sodor wanted to choose who would be the chief of the railway the fat controller or the thin controller then they would vote

slng · 01/05/2008 09:47

Hello all!

We have tentative plans to go to Kew in the afternoon if it only rains lightly ...

We've already voted. You should try postal vote - then the kids can vote! Only joking ...

SJ99 · 01/05/2008 10:08

Morning all

Poor mini-Sushi, looks like he's suffering lots

Thanks Ros - will pop over later this afternoon. Going to take DS swimming soon, figured we were going to get wet in this weather anyway so might as well go to pool. Have to vote at some point too

Hello Paddle Stateside

Bunyan - didn't realise you lived so close to Kidzone, will defo give you a shout when we go next time. BTW Marble Hill playground seems deserted these days due to all surrounding roadworks, quite noisy there too. DS likes looking at all the diggers

Kew - enjoy your break tom, soudn like you deserve it.

Sfx - yum looking cake!

ComeOVeneer · 01/05/2008 10:38

Sushi, poor ds he looks so sad. Have you tried oatmeal baths? Cut a circle of muslin, put a generous scoop of oats in the middle then draw the sides up into a pouch, tie with string and hang under the tap so the water runs through it into the bath. Also once he is on the mend use vitE cream and/or bio oil to aid healing without scarring. Hope he turns the corner on the way to getting better real soon.

I am so snowed under with this school fair atm, I have had to cance;l Sunday lunch her for 15 people as I just can't get the house straight, do the food shopping and cooking. I also have to go to IL's after school tomorrow for dinner, and back to London to dh's aunt on Sat afternoon + dinner (plus take children swimming in the morning), so MIL isn't happy. However after 2 weeks of school holidays, dh being away for 6 days, and this fair, plus spring cleaning the entire house (OK I really should have choosen aanother time to do that) something had to give!

On that note I must plough on with washing down all the skirting boarsds!

Kewcumber · 01/05/2008 11:17

Mum has taken DS to Kidzone (I guided her in remotely via mobile as she has the sense of direction of a pissed newt) - apparently he is so happy he may have to go and live there.

slng · 01/05/2008 11:41

Kew - no being unkind about the directionally-challenged. I've once tried to walk along the canal from Paddington to Camden and ended up at Kensal rise... Or was that Kensal Green. Or are they the same place? [confused and lost]

SushiMummy · 01/05/2008 11:45

paddle - glad your business trip going well.[waves]

foxie - thanks for the advice. Will ask for ABs cream when we see doc this afternoon. Have you tried Natural Shoe shop in Richmond? They have kids Birkenstock.

QC - have a nice time on IoW.

CoV - thanks for the advice. We do these things in Japan, apple/orange skins in the muslin and leave in the bath. We certainly try oatmeal tonight.

DS cried a lot last night and he was scratching away. He's got more spots (even on his willy ) but looks like he turned the corner. Phew.

Someone mentioned Brum before and I watched it with DS this morning and spotted David Walliam.

ComeOVeneer · 01/05/2008 11:50

I assume you have cut his nails nice and short. Also I would recommend you put cotton socks on his hands at night, to reduce the damage done in his sleep.

rosmerta · 01/05/2008 13:06

Hi all, we risked the weather & went to Kew. Ds has walked for miles, well I'm sure it seems like it to his little legs! Bluebells are out but hard to tell if they're still just blooming or just starting to fade.

Kew, have a nice time in IoW

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/05/2008 13:56

hello

we did not make it to Kew, I went to vote but on the way to the gardens it started raining really hard, just as we stepped in at our place the sun came up -BOOOOO

KC hope you have a nice time at IOW

suhi glad to hear ds seems to be over the worst.

slng · 01/05/2008 14:15

It's all sunny here but I can see seriously dark clouds over the direction of Kew. Can anyone there tell me if it's raining there?

sfxmum · 01/05/2008 14:17

not at this very moment but it does not look good slng very dark clouds as you say

  • end of public announcement
slng · 01/05/2008 14:25

Thank you sfx. Watch out BBC weather forecast! Do you think kids can be persuaded to take honey and sunflower seeds bread as a good replacement for possible bluebells and drenching?

SJ99 · 01/05/2008 14:28

Glad Gherkin is enjoying Kidzone, it is tricky to find though, tucked away off the main road. DS loves it there too, yesterday he spent half hr in ball pit just giggling his head off, then spent next half hr on bouncy castle, they do a good lunch there too.

Sushi - glad to hear DS is over the worst of it, wishing him a quick recovery

Slng - enjoy Kew if you go, just take waterproofs with you as well!

Swimming was good fun, we befriended a 5yr old who insisted on showing us all her moves, splashing us loads in the process and kept asking if DS could swim underwater and egging me on to let him do so!

sfxmum · 01/05/2008 14:33

slng go ahead enjoy, dd is set on watching Thomas and I don't feel able to start persuading - but it is sunny now

SJ enthusiastic kids I can cope with, pushy parents is quite another thing.
might go swimming tomorrow

SJ99 · 01/05/2008 14:37

The mum was spending more time with her younger sister so I guess she wanted to someone to show off to. DS thought she was funny!

Enjoy Thomas (I can already hear the theme tune starting to go roudn in my head!)

sfxmum · 01/05/2008 14:47

last time I was at the pool there was a little baby just a couple of months old I got so so broody, even started thinking of boy/girl names and writing them down hormones!

ComeOVeneer · 01/05/2008 14:49

Well just back from a drenching at the park and trousres/shoes (ds's) covered in dog poo . Have to go and persuade dd (day of as her school is being used as a polling station) to try on the entire contetns of her wardrobe so we can see what still fits!

slng · 01/05/2008 16:20

We made it to one of the local parks (the-one-with-the-big-logs). It was sunny for a bit and then rain. I've never seen a playground clear quite so quickly! I tried to persuade dc to hide under a climbing frame but sharp-eyed ds1 noted that there were holes on the platform and refused ...

SushiMummy · 01/05/2008 18:04

Saw doc this afternoon, apparently DS's spots are not that infected so no ABs cream for him.

My friend gave birth to a baby girl this morning! Really happy for her.

SJ99 · 01/05/2008 20:22

Great news about your friend Sushi. Did docs suggest anything for DS to help with CP?

Sfx at being broody in pool. Good job you didn't come today as there was whole class full of babies waiting to go in after us!

Ros- nice to see you & thanks for having us over. Traffic was hideous on the way home. DS meanwhile realised he was actually starving and practically demanded a 3course meal when he got home. Needless to say I didn't get round to going to polling station on the way home, never mind...

sfxmum · 01/05/2008 21:01

SJ the polls close at 10pm, still time

sushi good thing they are not infected, but still, we did oats bath for dd when she had some skin problems a couple of years ago

cov at dog poo a personal annoyance of mine, Hate it when owners don't clean after their pets -yuck

slng I hope to do Kew tomorrow when it is supposed to be better, sometime around 12 I think if you, or anyone else would be interest in meeting up.

off to watch Heroes

fitfox · 01/05/2008 21:05

Did everyone vote then? I did indeed vote tactically

QC "Bugger me" is that a general request to the inhabitants of the IoW?

SFX - did mini-sfx cast her tactical vote then?

CoV - agree with you about oatmal baths - it is a miracle cure for sore skin - worked wonders for Ds2's infected nappy rash when he was an itsy bitsy newborn [awww] -

Well DS1 his had a short back and sides similar to his first day at school. I haven't seen his ears for 2 yrs and hardly recognise him, but he and Ds2 look very alike now (though DS2 has a Beatles hair do)

I had to get a bid for funding off today at work so was quite busy (specially as the in house bid writer went AWOL at the last minute and I had to get a freelance one in)- I like days like that - plus write a board report, then wizz back and book DS1's swim birthday party, then collect DS1 then collect DS1 from his after school class, the whizz him to hair dresser...phew

Driving the DCs down to Bath tomorrow on a sectret mission
Have a job interview next week for a big role at a local authority (I won't ge it - traditionally I always come second for well paid jobs, never first ).

Well, the polls are closing shortly and the counting will begin. I wonder if the weather will get Boris in.

BTW that thing on Kew Green on Saturday is a traditionl Victorian Fayre (But not the Kew Fair).
